The Sarah Palin Thread: 'Controversial Controversy' Edition

Most radio hosts would have corrected something like that, why shouldn't he correct her, she's no different than anyone else that made a mistake.

People do make mistakes, I bet most of us on here have made a few from time to time...ours just aren't viewed or heard by millions.

It's one thing to disagree with her ideology, which I find far to extreme too the right for my taste even though I do tend to follow her fiscal conservatism, just not her extreme social conservatism....and her voice wants me want to shoot myself...lol, but this type of thing from people, comes off as extremely petty.....and tends to rise to the level of her pettiness at times. So I guess we are no different from her in several ways...we make mistakes and we can be pettiness as hell sometimes.

I agree with everyone is allowed to make mistakes. Its just that mistakes from politicians regarding the whereabouts of allies and/or non-allies is just a tinsy-winsy bit bigger than lets say confusing coke with pepsi...

Maybe I'm just good with remembering things, but confusing North and South Korea isn't something I'd do, especially if I was a politician.

Yes, again....we are all perfect.

As a geography I don't differentiate between the two.....it is the Koreas to me in most of my lectures. I guess I'm not intellectual and perfect enough to be a politician either. Damn, and I was going to quit my job next week....

Why has she got it out for the First Lady? Really Sarah? You're gonna rag Michelle for her Childhood Obesity program?

:doom: :doom: :doom:

What's wrong with the First Lady's program? I don't know the particulars but I presume it's about eating healthy and exercising more.

I have no clue, as it seems to be the right thing to do. those that bash exercise and eating healthy favor massive coronaries.

Eh.. you do know there are gigantic differences between the two countries yes?
Like for example, that DPRK is a closed-off dictatorship whose official current leader has been dead for years and is regarded as a god in some instances. Where the female population in the capital city Pyonguyan (sp?) is selected to live there DEPENDING ON HOW PRETTY THEY ARE! ie. "if your ugly then no no, go live somehwere else ffs!"
I could go on but these facts alone should make my point :P

and South Korea is, well... a normal country.

I think it is important to teach the difference between North Korea and South Korea in our schools.

If you're not teaching the differences between North and South Korea, you're doing something wrong as a teacher.

I know absolutely nothing about either country, and I've been teaching them as the same country all 20 years of my teaching career....*insert sarcasm, ANYWHERE...*

Way to totally miss the point...:yay:

Sarah Palin attacks the First Lady's program because she's a partisan loon always looking for the latest "government intrusion" boogeyman.

Soon they'll start going after health inspectors. "How is it the government's business if I have rats in my restaurant? They're my pets!"

What's hilarious is that she turns this into something to campaign on in a Facebook message. She didn't correct herself and it wasn't a slip of the tongue. I find it funny some people on here who are so condemning of--oh say--Michelle Obama's comment from over two years ago...or Obama using the terms "get to the back" are ready to just ignore this and bury it immediately.

It could have been a simple stupid mistake. But, if I recall, in the book Game Change, some of her advisers, handlers and staff confirmed that she did not know the difference between North and South Korea (nor that they were separated over the Korean War) and had to be given a History 101 run thorough WWI, WWII, the Cold War, Korea and even Iraq. She was insisting that Iraq was responsible for 9/11 when she was chosen to be VP.

The fact that she mixed up South Korea and North Korea again in an interview seems to be a running example of her lack of historical perspective and knowledge on foreign policy.

But I'm most shocked that she runs on this. And her supporters love it. "Oh I made a gaffe that potentially displays that I'm ignorant. Instead of proving otherwise, I'll mock the President and lamestream media!" And her supporters think, "That'a go Sarah. Stick it to 'em elitists."

Meanwhile the New START Treaty languishes despite support from Republicans who actually care about keeping America safe and strong foreign policy like Dick Lugar and Jim Baker. Even Kissinger is scratching his head at what's going on.

These idiots on the right (not all Republicans, just the ones shaping policy or hurting policy that Reagan would have loved) make my head hurt. Oh well.

In her defense Michelle's Childhood Obesity program IS fairly silly.

There is nothing wrong with encouraging our children to be more healthy. Childhood obesity is a serious problem in this country. Those who would seek to attack it are just not being reasonable.

So just to be clear, you were being sarcastic right? I'm 99% sure there are teachers in this country who don't differentiate between the two Koreas.

She simply doesn't know enough. Period. Everyone likes to rag on politicians for goofing up, and G.W. sure got plenty of barbs for being "stupid," but even he was at least in an environment of knowledge, picking stuff up from his father, occasionally hanging out with intelligent people, etc.

She lives an entirely isolated life, completely disinterested in world affairs.

I'm not smart enough to be president. I know this. But she thinks she can cheat the system, essentially. Fudge her way through. It's like she's in 6th grade, trying to get through a book report without having read the book.

You'd think she would've spent the last 2 years studying. No, she'd rather make money. Because she knows she has a base that will stick with her no matter how stupid she comes across as. Thankfully, it's a base that's not big enough to get her elected.

When talking Physical Geography most geography teachers will not differentiate between the Koreas...when talking certain aspects of Human Geography, geography teachers will not differentiate between the Koreas....when talking Economic and Political aspects of Human Geography they will differentiate between the Koreas.

Yeah, but trying to combat childhood obesity is going to do nothing. It would be better to combat bad parenting promotes not only childhood obesity, but also kids playing Grand Theft Auto, growing up in poor environments, etc.

I just dont understand people's love and fascination with Sarah Palin.
