The Sarah Palin Thread: 'Controversial Controversy' Edition

There is so much wrong with Michelle Obama's fighting childhood obesity, I don't know where begin. The first biggest problem is she is advocating the education and enforcement of out-of-date and plain wrong nutritional info. A lot of this has to do with corporatist lobbies and influencing the "authority" in government nutrition. Some of the data behind her rationale is spurious (BMI).

For example, her husband's party subsidizes corn (which subsidizes high fructose corn) due to lobbies. Eliminate this subsidy you solve so much with a simple stroke. You don't see her fighting against this political inconvenience.

More to it, just because something has fat, it doesn't mean it makes you fat. You actually need dietary fat in a normal diet, especially to regulate your hormones. What actually produces fat is a combination is high GI (sugary) goods that activates body fat production (insulin spikes), and an excess of calories.

Some of the foods being enforced onto children on the grounds they are healthy, I would not even touch with a 2 feet pole. Kids are better off eating Quinoa than most modern manufactured breads that are not properly fermented to remove anti-nutrients. Breads (wheat) that are ALSO subsidized.

So yea, Michelle's little anti-obesity campaign chafes me.

But Palin didn't articulate any of that. It was the usual "Government needs to stay out our lives" schtick with no real substance. So it once again comes off with her sounding like she's being the opposition just because she can.

We have significantly more suckers than that.

Our current President being an obvious example.

If the news media didn't obsess over her, that moron wouldn't pull 500k a month. Progressive media loves her because she is lamer than Obama. Which is an epic feat I admit. Hell, the progressives types in media probably love her more than some conservatives because of what she entails; a 2012 Obama victory.

This is why you will find more Palin haters obsessing over her than her nutty fans. If that makes any sense.

I'm rather enjoying the current thread title. Just sayin'... :oldrazz:

I dissagree. Palin haters want her to go away. Of course she's the butt of her own joke, so she stays in the media. But her supporters keep in the spotlight. If people would ignore her, she'd be gone. She's like the Jersey Shore of politics.

Palin "haters," want her to go away but they are the ones always bumping the thread, posting the stories, talking about her on MSNBC, etc.

Exactly. Palin's as much a creation of the liberal media as she is anything.

I would say it goes the same for pretty much any media story. If there's one thing the media loves talking about more than the story, is how the media reacted to the story. (Balloon Boy, Katrina, etc)

Very true.

The most obvious example of liberals making Sarah Palin a story is the Willow (?) facebook controversy. When you have anti-Sarah Palin people complaining about people talking about Sarah Palin, and yet at the same time reporting on the social network quotes coming from her adolescent daughter, you can't help but laugh.

That whole thing was stupid but I think the frustrating thing about it was that Sarah Palin overreacts just as much when someone uses the word ******. But it's Sarah being the usual hypocrite.

I never said I wanted her to go away. I want her up there in the spotlight being the symbol for real America and the GOP.

Sarah Palin became part of the story when she tried to spin the attacks on Willow as 'just another liberal media scheme' and then she had the nerve to dismiss Willow's gay slur attack as 'not a big deal'. As samsnee said, it's just another example of Sarah Palin being a complete hypocrit.

But why was it a story to begin with?

The fact anyone in the media would comment on the TWITTER OF A TEENAGE GIRL demonstrates how the liberal media is propping up Palin. NOT A SINGLE PERSON should have cared about what Willow said.

Like it or not, Willow Palin isn't a 'nobody'. She is the daughter of a former vice-presidential candidate. She used a gay slur and she was called on it. What made the situation worse was the Palins handling of it. Your use of the same excuse the Palins used isn't good man. This had nothing to with the 'big bad liberal media'.

I honestly don't want Palin to go away. She's some good entertainment. But I don't want her to be President either. I hope she stays in the celebrity spotlight and not move back to politics. I don't trust the American public. I have a feeling a lot would vote for her if she were to run.

Willow Palin is 16 years old.

Her opinion is irrelevant to anyone that cares about issues.

She is relevant ONLY if you are looking to talk about politics without dealing with actual issues. She is relevant ONLY if you want to MANUFACTURE a political story.

She is not relevant to anyone with any integrity.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is supporting his 85-year-old mother in her apparent feud with former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, while also praising the former GOP vice presidential candidate for having “fantastic political instincts.”

In an exclusive interview Monday, Bush told Newsmax.TV: “If it’s between my mom and Gov. Palin, I’ve got to go with my mom, just in general, because she’s my mother."

He added with a smile, "So you’re not going to get me in trouble with disagreeing with my beloved mother of 85 years, who occasionally from time to time says things that give us all great joy, and sometimes some consternation.”

Story continues below.

Nov. 29, 2010 Former Gov. Jeb Bush goes with his mother in her apparent feud with former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. But the Florida Republican also praised Palin for having fantastic political instincts. During an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV, Bush said, not going to get me in trouble.
In a recent appearance on CNN, host Larry King asked former first lady Barbara Bush for her take on the outspoken Palin.

“Well, I sat next to her once, thought she was beautiful, and I think she's very happy in Alaska,” Mrs. Bush replied. “And I hope she'll stay there.”

That prompted Palin in a radio interview with conservative host Laura Ingraham to retort: "I don't want to sort of concede that we have to get used to this kind of thing because I think the majority of Americans don't want to put up with the blue bloods — and I say it with all due respect because I love the Bushes — but the blue bloods who want to pick and choose their winners instead of allowing competition to pick and choose the winners."

While siding with his redoubtable mother, Jeb Bush went out of his way to compliment Palin’s political acumen, saying: ”She has an incredible skill to connect with people. She has fantastic political instincts, I think.”

The younger brother of former President George W. Bush added that all candidates in the 2012 presidential field have strengths and weaknesses.
Overcoming the liabilities, while emphasizing one’s strengths, will be the key, he said.
