Since we're all concerned about gas prices and the cost of energy these days, I've chosen to create a thread where everybody can suggest ways to decrease their use of energy and hopefully make a difference in society.

My suggestion, get those solar outside lamps, let them charge up in the sun and use them in the house in places where you only need some light, but not a lot, like hallways.

I say employing our animal friends. Make giant hampsters to run wheels and produce electricity.

Ya gotta feed the hamsters and that ain't cheap.

Remove the plug from the power cable of your PC. Put the exposed wires on a burning candle. When they get hot enough, you'll be able to switch on your PC. This way, you save on electricity.

I dont care about gas prices, its not that big of a deal here, I drive even more now than normal.

My solution to people thinking gas is too high is for them to stop being so poor.

Let's all buy hybrid cars and move to San Francisco

The day they make a hybrid that doesnt look like a pile of crap and is fast is the day I might consider getting it.

even though it really doesnt help us energy-wise....because electricity isnt this magically generated free energy source.

It's far less destructive to the environment than fuel. And cheaper.

I've been looking into windmills, even if I could just run my fridge and hot water tank I'd be happy.

I save energy by sitting on my ass all day.

You can solarize your hot water easily enough, provided that your town allows to modify your house.

You're using energy by using up chairs more quickly.
What, i don't ruin chairs. I don't weigh very much.

Compared to what?

For example, humans make very skinny elephants, regardless of how much they weigh, even the half ton humans.

I don't understand the people *****ing about gas prices, every day on the news theres a new putz that a reporter will go up to ask what they think of the gas prices. I actually read something that said "Well for now the people will pay the price for gas," What the **** are they going to do? Run out of gas on the freeway? Yeah they are going to buy gas still, what is the alternative, riding on the bus or train with all the poor people, crank users, Asians, black people and dumbasses in general? **** no, they will be pumping good ole unleaded into their ****ty SUVs while they wonder why they are paying $100 bucks to fill up their tank.

lol... as jarring as your statement is to read it is brutally honest, ocelot.

i personally shut off my computer at night (it's true-- there is a power switch!). you can at least turn off your monitor or put it to sleep.

this summer i will be riding my bike to work. i'm a teacher who usually lives right on campus at my boarding school job but my summer job is a few miles away. good exercise and saves me gas money.

turn off all the lights at night and use night lights instead. switch to low bulb wattages where you can.

hang drapes in your windows in the winter if you windows are heat inefficient.

Prices are going down here, slowly but surely. People need to quit having panic attacks.

I memorize the picture and visualize it in my head silly.

but it's a lot cooler when your imagination does the work for you
