Clone Wars The Season 5 Discussion Thread

When Disney took over SW I kept arguing with my co-worker that this change will be good for SW, but he kept telling 'no it can't be good...

Oh how wrong I was.

We all should have seen this coming. Disney didn't get to be the massively successful studio it is today by playing nice and worrying about what the commoners think about their management decisions. Keeping the shareholders happy and making the biggest profit possible are Disney's two main concerns. Star Wars must fall in line. Gone are the days of one man putting his own money into a passion project. Disney won't just throw money to the wind unless it will profit them in return. They are going to suck this teat until it has given all it has to give and then there will be reboots, remakes (excluding episodes 1-6), and god knows what else. When its good it will be great, but when its bad its going to be ugly as all hell.

So Cartoon Network is now responsible for cancelling Young Justice, Green Lantern, and Clone Wars? Wow, this would make even Sidious jealous.lol

Cartoon network had absolutely nothing to do with this. Cartoon Network was only a distributor of the show. They don't make it nor control it. Lucasfilm's contract with Cartoon Network was for 5 seasons. It was up to Disney to renew the contract with Cartoon Network or move the show to another network. Disney instead chose to cancel the show. This is all Disney.

Ah ic ic...okay, that makes more sense. I'll give CN that one; though one must wonder on the hate that CN would have gotten if they were the ones instead that were responsible for it being cancelled.

I was really hoping for at least a final sixth season to properly wrap everything up. That clip that was shown of Order 66 shows that they had so much more to show, and I hope we get to see it somehow.

That preview was better than some of the entire 3-4 episode arcs......hopefully we get an Order 66 DTV.

Oh, god. Enough with the whole Disney as an evil corp complaints.

Besides, didn't you guys say you were tired of Lucasfilm focusing on the Clone Wars era?

At least they ended TCW on a good note. At least they gave us an explanation as to why Ahsoka wasn't in ROTS.

No one has said Disney is evil. They are a business. They make business decisions. That is all. Doesnt mean we like all of them. Some I will like and some I will hate. Some I will praise and some I will ***** about. Some things will be better than Lucas ever gave us and some things will be worse than the prequels. Its the nature of the business.

Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV always seem to be in cancellation territory. Including animation. I will always take 20 LOSTs, BSGs, Stargates, Buffys, X-Files, and everything that else that is creative and imaginative over the dullness of the CSIs, Jersey Shores, and all that other junk.

EDIT: I still love Disney though, I will be happy if we are given excellent arcs to finish things off nicely. Disney seems to be focusing on the future trilogy only for now. Even the likes of the upcoming video games have been put on hold. A part of me isn't saddened as it means Disney is focusing solely on bringing quality and not having numerous different projects already going on at once. Even though I'd have loved to see TCW Season Six, 1313, and that First Assault game.

Hear, hear!

I'm confused on the cancellation. Has it been said that we wont get a season 6? I thought that they were already working on it and that the show would end after Season 6?

They are claiming we'll get at least 2 more arcs in some form, and JAT said Season 6 was mostly done (and I assume all dialogue and such was recorded a while ago.), so I'd bet we'll get to see mos tif not all of it. I'm hoping they are allowed to give the show a proper ending, even if it means we may not see some of the finished episodes for a while. I really want closure is all.

If that's true, then I don't see the point of all the moaning. We knew the should had to end eventually & it's awfully close to ROTS right now

I didn't realize the 1313 game had been canned as well.

I also just realized, no "Boba will return with a vengeance!" arc that Filoni talked about, and no more on Bo-Katan. :(

I really don't see a need to transition to the Battle of Coruscant. That's already been done in Tartakovsky's Clone Wars cartoon. But the Maul, Asoka, and Ventress stuff do need to get finished.

I'd just like to see the battle on the ground level of Coruscant is all. I suppose they could say Ahsoka's arc did have an ending and since technically she'd no longer be in the actual Clone Wars and that the next time we see her will be a spin-off of her life after she walks away from the Jedi Order. Ventress is working as a bounty hunter, so like Cad Bane, Hondo and Embo I just see it as her future lying in the underworld ala Boba Fett. Maul is the biggest loose end IMO.

Well, it sucks, but it was expected, as history has shown with Disney. I just always thought they'd let it finish. 8 seasons sounds a bit much, though. 6 was gonna be perfection. Oh, well. The hype train did not slow down for me. Movies > anything.

YeahI gotta dig through the TFN boards for the links, but Ashley Eckstein mentioned recording in studio for the last time, and Filoni mentions they had to wrap up Asohka's story. Another links from James Arnold Taylor said Season 6 was mostly done, so I actually still feel a bit worried regarding them saying we'll get "at least 2 arcs", which may mean we might actually not get several completed episodes, at least not any time soon.
So I have no idea if they were already working on some Season 7 and may actually get a wrap up storyline for Asohka, and JAT hinted at there being S6 Darth Maul episodes on his Twitter yesterday. So I guess we'll have to wait.

I'm still quite pissed about all this, but I can't say I never thought this might happen. I still have lots of hope for the ST, so I'm sure we can all complain and moan if Episode VII turns out to be complete crap about how it got a lot of good things cancelled. But again, in two years, I can't say for sure if any of us will still be that bitter about it.

Yeah, I was looking forward to that the most. It was supposed to be a him and Cad bane teamup too:csad:

I think the greatest crime of the cancellation may be that we'll never see some of these great original characters again.

My main concern is when and how we will see what they have though. Ideal case it's gonna be in a dvd/blu-ray (maybe as extras in the season 5?) or webisodes over at SW.com. It has to be in a way fans worldwide can see though, not just those in North America, cause for example i cant watch the CW episodes over at SW.com.

Aww man, i'm gonna miss Clint Eastwood aka Cad Bane :csad: lol,. He reminds me of Clint a lot for some reason.

what are you talking about? it's not like star wars has been a passion project for years, it's not like the clone wars was any acceptation. the creative team probably consisted of true fans, who loved their job, and cared about what they were producing, but it's not like they didn't care about the money or the shows success. While I'm a huge fan of the Darth Maul arc, I can recognize it was a huge marketing ploy. It's no mistake he came back at the same time the Phantom Menace was being rereleased. Not to mention Star Wars is notorious for being very focused on the merchandise sales that bring even more revenue than the films themselves. Not to mention this "one man putting his money into a passion project" didn't even want to make Return of the Jedi, and scrapped his plans for a sequel to his "passion project" saying he was "done".

Just because a show you liked got cancelled doesn't mean that disney is anymore a heartless corporation than Lucasfilm, or any other production studio out there right now. Disney did what they felt was in their best interest, and they're still letting them tie up the loose ends with a partial release of season 6. Honestly it's not entirely bad we may only get 2 arcs, hell in season 5 there were only 2 arcs I was interested in and they delayed them with crap until 4 months in!

Disney, and Lucasfilm are all heartless corporations, just like the rest of the movie making companies.

One other thing I wasn't aware of, I didn't realize there was a Star Wars: First Assault game for Xbox Live......that supposedly is postponed/cancelled. I guess it was supposed to be Battlefront type game.

The Clone Wars had a good run and to me at least, it ended on a logical note as far as concerning Ashoka---(and as much as I love the cartoon, I can't wait to see what other eras are explored in TV and hopefully Detours is cancelled-I want to see the OT crew, but not like that). In the long run, I'm a bit more upset with some of the game cancellations (1313 and now finding out about this First Assault game---just yesterday in the Microsoft thread here).

I'm still catching up with the last five episodes, but it's a damn shame that this series isn't continuing. This show has really been great. There's rumors that the stuff for season six, or the extra episodes of season five will be made into animated movies. So I hope that happens.
