The Shawshank Redemption appreciation thread

I enjoyed watching this movie, so i gave it 9 out of 10.

Cast was the best part of the movie, the story was good enough and I liked the art direction and the look of the prison.

An amazing movie, the novella is just as good.
It's strange to think that this came from the mind of Stephen King.. But it did.
This and Stand By Me are two great King stories.

That's why it's an APPRECIATION thread...so I don't care.

If you really didn't care you wouldn't have responded, would you? ;)

Well, enough with this ''trolling''. It's not my style. I shall be leaving this thread now.

lol i love telling ppl yeah that's a stephen king. and getting the "whhaaatt?!" if there's one thing the man can do well its creat some memorable characters. i think his short stories tend to translate better to film, esp when they're of a more realistic type.
i love this movie.

It's a great film, no doubt. Should have put it in my 'five.'

I love this movie so much, especially Red, Morgan Freeman's character.

Like I posted earlier in the thread, I had gotten to see this about a month before it opened...it was a sneak preview course where we'd find out what movie we were seeing the night of the screening. I had read the original Stephen King novella, so I was really excited when they told us we'd be screening Shawshank.

But I remember this look of dread on the face of the lady sitting next to me when I told her it was written by Stephen King. I actually said, "Oh no...it's not one of those!" and went on to explain the story came from the same book that Stand By Me had come from. She looked quite relieved.

Gil Bellows (who played Tommy) was also at the screening for a Q&A afterwards. I remember him explaining that Tim Robbins ignored him on set the entire day they shot the scene when he asked Andy to help him pass his high school test, so that he would feel intimidated by him when they filmed the scene.

I watched the movie on HBO this weekend...still one of my favorite movies.

I cut off cable at my place to save on money + writer's strike I felt it was time to just get rid of it. I have found myself watching this movie at least 3 times a week.

I think it has burrowed into my head somehow though. I have found myself quoting without knowing it. I was having a conversation with a friend about another friend of ours that has dropped off the radar and he loved the fact that I referred to his disappearance as "he just vanished like a fart in the wind." That line is true brilliance!

Great film. Lots of tremendous moments, but to me, the short side plot with the old librarian Brooks outside of prison is the most moving part of the whole movie.

This is a lovely movie I'm glad I've watched.

I sympathized him the most, and felt bad for Red being broken when the parole committee asks him about being released from prison.

I finished up Season 2 of Castle Rock a few weeks back and it was pretty neat that in one episode Tim Robbins' character went to Shawshank to visit someone.
