Guillermo del Toro's "Nightmare Alley" (Cooper, Blanchett)

So, where's the monster to ****?

I dunno what this movie is about but I must watch it.

Just realized that this is going up against NWH on December 17th.

Based on what (admittedly little) I know about this thing, I feel like that trailer is going to give a lot of people the wrong idea of what this movie is.

Eeh…mediocre
Some good shots but overall not impressed. Looks like Big Fish after sunset.
This “Is he man or beast…” tag line annoyed me

What is this movie exactly?

Without going to the trouble of spoiling myself to the original’s entire plot, it certainly doesn’t seem like the monster/horror movie the trailer is selling it as.

A new "this is fine" meme

I thought del Toro said this was going to be a noir film without monsters or any supernatural stuff in it? The trailer seems to heavily imply that something else is going on. Are they just trying to market it that way because that’s what people expect from GDT? That could potentially bite them in the ass. Maybe things changed during production.

Looks gorgeous though. And the cast is incredible.

Looks great! It's Del Toro, so I'm automatically in. coincidentally, this trailer dropped last night while I was watching pan's labyrinth

Looks great as expected. Not sure it's wise to open against NWH though.

It's symbolism.

On the surface, Dafoe is a showman hyping up a circus attraction. By intercutting this dialogue with shots of Bradley Cooper, it's like the "narrator" (Dafoe) is asking the audience if Cooper's character is a man or a "beast."

Without spoiling any major plot points, it’s a noir about a con man and his relationship with a femme fatale.

Sure, I get that. I just think the trailer was edited a little misleadingly. There were a couple of moments where it felt like a big reveal/money shot with the “beast” was coming.

No one else got that feel? Just little old me?

Never seen the original but caught the trailer earlier, the film looks visually fantastic and very intriguing.

Did he run out of time? I know he’s also doing del Toro’s Pinocchio.
