    Hello everyone!

For the past couple of years I've been wanting to host a comic book awards here at the hype and always thought of it too late. This year, I'm making it happen. This thread is for the sake of Nominations and for creating the categories that people would be interested in seeing.

The plan is to have a thread (this thread) where people will nominate however many titles/creators/etc. that they feel should be included in the voting ballot. Then, shortly after the new year, I will send out a ballot to anyone who is interested or who has participated in the conversations, and they will vote and send me their ballots. Then I will later award the winners of each category in it's own thread. I will hold the actual voting after the new year so that every comic of 2012 will be released.

These awards cover Marvel, DC, Boom, Dark Horse, Dynamite, Image, and any other comic you'd like to mention.

    Categories thus far:

    Best Single Issue of 2012
    Best Ongoing Series of 2012
Best Mini Series of 2012 (at least half of it must have taken place in 2012)
    Best One-Shot of 2012
Best Arc of 2012 (at least half of it must have taken place in 2012)
    Best Writer of 2012
    Best Artist of 2012
    Best Character of 2012
    Best Supporting Character of 2012
    Best Villain of 2012
    Best Company of 2012
    Best Independant Title of 2012

I'm likely missing some obviously needed categories so shout them out. I considered Inkers, letterers, and colorists but I honestly care very little about that. If others would like to make a mention then I'll add them.

Also, it'd be fun to have some "out there" categories that would just make voting fun. I suggest:

    Worst Single Issue of 2012
    Worst Ongoing Title of 2012
Worst Arc of 2012 (at least half of it must have taken place in 2012)
Biggest WTF Moment of 2012 (things that make you go hmm?!)
Best Scene of 2012 (single moment in an issue, a panel or a page, etc.)
    Best Death Scene of 2012
    Ugliest Art of 2012
    Worst Writing of 2012
Most Doable of 2012 (that's right... which fictional character would you 'do' if he/she were real?)

    Just some ideas.

So what do you guys think? Let's get these categories knocked out first but if you want to go ahead and nominate then go right ahead. Just check back to see if there are any new categories you should nominate for. As of now, I am not limiting the number of nominees. I will likely take no more than 5 per category to the ballot though, so keep that in mind.

For any of the "Worst Of" categories, put me down to nominate anything AvX related. The main series, the writers, the VS books. The only thing that was decent was the AvX Consequences book.

DD#8 was one of the best issues Waid has written during his run but issue #7 was better/the best. It's the one where DD leads the school for the blind kids through a blizzard after their bus crashes. Damn thing won an Eisner for best single issue/story. Sadly, it came out the last week of 2011 so I can't nominate it here. :(

Batman Inc. is considered an ongoing. I'd recommend nominating something else.

Though if I'm not mistaken, the last few issues of vol. 1 were released as a oneshot called Leviathan Strikes. Something to think about since you didn't nominate a one shot.

I'm pretty sure that was in 2012. I can't check at the moment (at work).

I think next year this should just go in the Marvel comics thread. The weekly B/T goes there anyway. I feel like folks are missing this...

Didn't see this thread over here, as I'm used to the awards appearing in the Marvel thread. Here is what I wrote for probably my favorite publisher:

On my Best list would definitely be Valiant. All their books have been a great jumping on point for fans, new and old. There isn't a title among the five that I don't like: Harbinger, Bloodshot, Archer & Armstrong, Shadowman, and X-O Manowar. It's much better than the other relaunch attempted a few years ago. If I was to pick a Favorite Company, they would be a huge consideration. They aren't shoving the titles down our throats (one a month, no multiple titles like Dynamite has done), and I feel as if I'm getting just enough. New titles will probably come; but, they are creating interest in those other Valiant characters by having them appear within the pages of the current five titles.
