I mean, it's been clear from Day One Fox has never cared about continuity, especially not the Deadpool films, which went out of their way to point it out.

I have to wonder though if there's some sort of petty shenanigans going on that's keeping them from using recognizable characters. Like, if they wrote Surge into the movie and then were told at the last minute they couldn't use her.

Rhett/Paul already said they just found a Z-lister whom they could change up. Same with the rest of X-Force, they just did it for the laughs and not really for anything purposeful, sans Dom and Cable and I guess Rob Delaney, if he will ever truly become Pete Wisdom.

I honestly didn't catch her name from NTW. Just thought Wade was calling her Yukio the entire time to reference The Wolverine.

The writers have said they have a list of at least 300+ characters they can use.

They just decided to use a Yukio.
