Homecoming The Side-Villains: the Shocker and Thinkerer thread!

That doesn't explain why you think that Woodbine is Shocker and Green is Tinkerer when Woodbine is older and Green resembles Shocker but neither actor resembles Tinkerer.

Because of the example you cited before; Fargo. Shocker is very much a "professional criminal" and doesn't let personal vendettas or anything get in the way of his job(which on a number of occasions has actually beaten Spidey). And the way he acted in Fargo, could easily translate to this character.

I just don't like a grim and serious Shocker and view Woodbine as a much more dramatic actor. I still feel like he's Tinkerer who's a much less comedic character in the comics.

Tinkerer? Never heard of him
You have, actually.
Remember the prison mission from Web of Shadows? He was the villain you use Rhino to break out to build the symbiote repelling device.

Notice how he confirmed Revolori as Flash, Laura as Liz in the same article? He also confirmed Jacob as Ned Leeds and Angourie Rice being in the movie and he was the first one to report Shocker is even in the movie which was confirmed at the toy panel.

Woodbine IS Shocker.

Okay. Looks like that's accurate. You were right. I still feel like Logan Marshall-Green is a bit too young-looking to be Tinkerer but it looks like we're getting a Tinkerer who's pushing 40 with a head full of hair.

Woodbine is also best known for a TV role so compared to Green he's more likely to show up on that rumored Thunderbolts Netflix series which is a huge plus in my book. I also hope that we see Herman shoved into a cell across from Zemo on The Raft after the credits.

And is there any confirmation of Donald Glover's character? I still hope that he's Abe Jenkins.

We're just speculating that LMG is Tinkerer because when he was cast it was said he'd be playing a villain

And I don't see any other actors playing villains. I'm not totally sold on Green as Tinkerer. That was lousy casting to me.

The only other actor who MAY be playing a villain is Donald Glover but that's entirely speculation and my own wish to see him play Abe Jenkins because I feel like he fits that role perfectly.

Shocker is perfect for an early action sequence as this is a Spidey already on the job.

Other than Ultimate Shocker and Superior Foes of Spider-Man, Shocker isn't really a joke villain.

When Shocker isn't a joke, he is written as one of the most bland villains in Spider-man's rogues gallery, with very little in terms of compelling personality, he is never even given a good reason why he is a criminal in the first place in the comics, why he never uses his skills to make money legitimately instead. At least in the cartoons he is presented as just a thug who is given his suit by a third party, which just makes more sense.

I would actually keep Shocker around for the entire movie, rather then have him be in one action scene, have him be Vulture right hand man, because Vulture is not a very exciting physical threat to Spidey, having Vulture and Shocker tag team Spidey makes for more of an exciting battle.

I'd rather Woodbine get more screen time and treat Shocker as a secondary villain throughout the film.

Eh, Shocker has another perfectly valid role: the professional whose just in it for the money. He's not a violent psycho, he doesn't care about revenge, he doesn't have a giant ego. . . he just wants to roll into the bank, blast open the vault, and run off with a few million dollars. Spider-man shows up, and he wants to fight him only as a means to escape with his loot. At the same time, though, he's the proverbial "decent" robber: he's not going to kill bystanders or cops, and he's not going to kill Spider-man either, because he's a thief, not a murderer.

Basically, he's designed to be a minor recurring foil, who doesn't supply huge drama, but also don't induce fridge logic about how Spider-man is having fun duels with a mass murderer.

Well except there was a story in the comics where Shocker does try to commit mass murder, with Shocker agreeing to kill all the members of a jury who were about to convict a psycho mob boss. Really Shocker in the comics is not very well or consistently written villain.

I also think bank robbers are less relevant in an age where bank robbery is being replaced by cyber crime as the method of gaining easy money through theft, hacking the bank's database is far easier then physically robbing the place. Bank robbery is actually in decline.

I think Shocker would work better as Vulture's main henchman, mainly because a final battle between Spidey and Vulture and Shocker is far more exciting then just a final battle between Spidey and Vulture. I think Vulture and Shocker should act like a wolf pack, alone not too dangerous to Spidey, but together are a real threat.

I totally agree with this! I really hope this is what happens.

I would rather have him play Shocker. He's a good enough actor to play someone who a bit more physical. He aint Tom Hardy, but I think he would be wasted on someone like the Tinkerer, which is a Richard Jenkins type role. Someone older, not threatening. (Unless they pull a fast one on us again on the role, and change up Tinkerer)

Yeah I hope Shocker isn't treated as a walking punchline.

Yeah that would be really cool.

It's possible but I think this could be the first time Spidey is dealing with supervillains. I'd imagine he's been dealing with petty criminals and such until now.

Can't the title be corrected for this? He tinkers. He does not "thinker". :o

And who owns the Trapster/ Paste Pot Pete? Would've been cool to have him as a minor villain that Spidey makes fun of.
