The Six Million Dollar Man & The Bionic Woman

Who here remembers Max, The Bionic Dog?

I remember Max...it seems like I'm remembering one particular episode where he saved a girl or something from falling...

It tees me off that they couldn't just take Bionic Woman and modernize the show for today. They changed too much in the TV remake... Lindsay Wagner's comment about the show (and all TV shows nowadays) was right on.

I hope somebody gives a remake another try... stick to the material of the old show and just place it in today's world. I would love to see Amy Acker portray Jaimie.

What about Kristen Bell?

I don't remember it looked like that jumpsuit though. She had a tracksuit but not a blue jumpsuit. I saw her wear a tan one in the 2nd half of Welcome Home Jaime which resembled the same style, but don't remember seeing a blue one with red sandals.

I hope somebody gives a remake another try... stick to the material of the old show and just place it in today's world. I would love to see Amy Acker portray Jaimie.

Amy Acker wouldn't be bad, as long as she plays it with her sweet personality and doesn't try to be too tough. That was one of the best things about the original version compared to Michelle Ryan's portrayal. Ryan came across as hard and angry. Lindsay's portrayal was sweet and innocent. She was scared of snakes and was quite girlish and charming, and also quite nurturing. She didn't need to act tough at all even though she was super strong and could beat any ordinary person. She often had childlike expressions of wonder and astonishment, and often rolled her eyes, either when someone said something or she did or said something she thought was foolish. The eye rolling was quite adorable.

If someone played that kind of role again today instead of being a tough acting and tough talking woman, that would be such a breath of fresh air in today's modern world.

I also liked that Jaime was a school teacher and former tennis pro (giving her an athletic background). That was much better than Ryan's bartender occupation. I also didn't like the setting of Ryan's version. Part of the charm of the original was the setting of Ojai, California.

What about Kristen Bell?

Don't really like Kristen Bell for the role. She's a little too savvy and quick talking, and maybe a bit too street smart. She might come across as slightly Buffyish, which is not what I would want for the character. I loved how Lindsay Wagner often didn't know what she was doing but was still a relative novice, and she came across as very earnest and genuine, and almost a bit naive.

Amy Acker at the time of when she was playing Fred in Angel would've been ideal, because there she was a fresh face and seemed far more innocent. Now she's been around a bit, I don't think it would be the same.

About EMCE Toys
The EMCE Toys brand (pronounced “em-see”) was founded to bring playability back to toys.
Inspired by the original action figure company, Mego Corp., we strive to craft quality, durable action figures, playsets, and collectibles that recreate the sense of fun that toys were originally made for. Our launch lines are either licensed reproductions of original Mego toys and packaging, or original creations modeled after the classic lines of the 1970s and early 1980s. EMCE is proud to have the active input and cooperation of Marty Abrams, founder of Mego and father of the modern action figure. We hope to continue to honor his legacy with our work. We have also been honored to incorporate the talents of veteran artist Harold Shull, original illustrator of Mego’s classic and distinctive packaging from the 1970s. As we continue to extend this kind of inclusion of the original Mego teams, we get closer to our goal of bringing Mego back as a viable toy company in all but name. EMCE was created by veteran pop culture entrepreneur Joe Sena, President of SphereWerx, LLC, and craftsman Paul “Dr. Mego” Clarke.

Now this is just what I wanted to hear. I was just thinking of how I would like to see new versions of these figures released. I was even contemplating trying to purchase the original figures on ebay but I think I will hold off now if we get something better.

I hope we also get the Bionic Woman too in both her white and blue tracksuit and 70s blue jumpsuit.

However, I wish that it were Hot Toys who were making these. Although I appreciate the retro figures, I don't really want a 6MDM and BW that are as crude as the classic 70s dolls. Their likenesses weren't very good and their articulation wouldn't be up to today's standards. Even if they are made like Masters of the Universe Classics (which are retro with modern articulation but 80s styling) the likenesses still wouldn't look like Lee Majors and Lindsay Wagner.

I would rather have Hot Toys making them with spot on likenesses and the fabric clothing. Of course, they would be very expensive.

I'm hoping that this Bif Bang Pow company will vastly improve the sculpts.

Any idea when these will come out?

BTW, I know that Kenneth Johnson made both The Incredible Hulk and The Bionic Woman, but has anyone noticed they are pretty similar in style? Sometimes when watching a Bionic Woman episode it feels like I'm watching an Incredible Hulk episode.

Johnson managed to get two excellent actors (Lindsay Wagner and Bill Bixby) who breathed life and humanity into his characters for two separate series. Both of those actors really made the series work, and brought a warmth and charisma to their roles, always helping out people in need.

I wonder if the proposed new Incredible Hulk TV will have a lead as uncharismatic as Michelle Ryan was for the Bionic Woman remake?

Did anyone have the Six Million Dollar Man or Bionic Woman dolls... I mean action figures when they were young? They were pretty cool although the skins weren't that durable.
I still have my SMDM. I've had it for over 25 years and it's still in good condition. :woot:

The skin on his arm hasn't torn off? If not, that's pretty well preserved. It would be very rare to find a toy like that now.

I really wish Hot Toys would make these, as I would love to get decent versions of these. I could go the ebay route and get the originals, but I'm not that fond of the way they look and their articulation now. We've come a long way since then. It would be purely for nostalgia if I did get them.

I've read that Bif Bang Pow tend to produce rather disappointing results with their retro dolls. They wouldn't really hold up to today's standards and look almost like bobbleheads. I'm not really wanting to get something that retro.

Here are some rare pics of Miss Wagner:

A shame she never appeared like that in the series. She tended to be more modest with the way she dressed, even with swimsuits which were one piece.

Actually, she does appear in a bikini in the episode, "Mirror Image". You can watch it here:

Anybody remember the made for TV 6MDM movies that came out after the series ended? I remember watching the one where Steve and Jaime go to watch Steve's son (who is a fighter pilot) perform at an air show. Something goes wrong with the plane and Captain Austin is critically injured. His dad pulls some strings and gets The Company to rebuild him with bionic technology, even more sophisticated than his own.

I remember watching this and hoping that this would spawn a reboot of the series with Junior in the lead role and occassional guest appearances from the two originals.

The 2nd one (Bionic Showdown) had Sandra Bullock in it in her pre stardom days.

If they ever remake Bionic Woman again, they need to get an actress more similar to Lindsay Wagner this time round. Someone who has that innocence and charm and who is definitely better looking than Michelle Ryan. They also need to lose that horrible dark and angry tone.

I was always amused how, whenever they needed to show Jaime writing quickly or doing other household chores, they would speed her up. Same with Steve Austin as well. However, when it came to running, they'd slow them down.

I would've preferred that they showed it in the way that Austin ran either when he takes his first run in the pilot in the red jumpsuit, or in the TV movies before the series (eg Wine, Women and War).

A reminder once again:

Grievously injured in the crash of an experimental aircraft, Colonel Steve Austin's shattered body is covertly rebuilt via the miracle of modern science known as bionics. Equipped with atomic-powered limbs that make him "better, stronger, faster" than the average mortal, Austin (Lee Majors) can now run at speeds exceeding 60 miles per hour, overturn cars with ease, and spot an encroaching enemy from over a mile away. Under the watchful eye of OSI director Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson), Steve repays his debt to the taxpayers by taking on perilous missions of a highly classified nature.

Season 1 chronicles Steve Austin's amazing metamorphosis from "a man barely alive" to cyborg to patriotic superspy. Armed with futuristic abilities, Austin is dispatched to do battle with kidnappers, arms smugglers, evil scientists, political assassins, and a diabolical robot-with time enough to spare to counsel a troubled astronaut (William Shatner) and clear his dead father's name. Relive the thrill of Steve's first bionic run in this digitally remastered 6-DVD set featuring 13 uncut episodes; all three made-for-TV movies in their original, unedited versions; and over two hours of never-before-seen bonus materials!
Last November the folks at Time Life released The Six Million Dollar Man - The Complete Series, a 40-DVD set available only directly from their online store. In January they followed up with an individual release of The Six Million Dollar Man - Pilot TV Movies and The Complete Season 1, a 6-disc set with the three pilot telefilms and the 13 regularly weekly episodes of the show's first season, plus extras. Lots of passionate fans jumped on one of these, but many of you have been waiting for a general retail release of the season sets.

Today Universal Studios Home Entertainment announced that The Six Million Dollar Man - Season 1 will be available at a participating store near you starting on November 29th. The six-disc set will have the same episodes (telefilms included) as the corresponding Time Life release, at the same list price of $39.98 SRP (individual retailers are expected to discount it, of course). Specs are the same, of course, with full screen video, English mono sound, and English subtitles.

Universal hasn't provided information about bonus material for their release, other than what's abstractly mentioned in the studio description quoted at the top. But generally speaking, Universal's retail releases are expected to have mostly the same extras as Time Life's versions, with certain notable exceptions (for example, it is believed that all of the extras with Lee Majors interview are Time Life-exclusive, and won't be found on Universal's retail copies). But for the most part you should see the same supplements. Also, the package art will be almost the same.

Ok, here's a little quiz. Which one is the Season 1 picture of Lindsay from the opening credits and which one is from Season 2? (PS I know the answer myself).

Thanks. What is that Bionica? Just a web based series?

But why call her Rachel Summers? First off, that's an incorrect spelling of Jaime Sommers' last name (if she's meant to be related) and second, that's that X-Men character's name (the daughter of Scott Summers and Jean Grey from an alternate future). Couldn't they be a bit more original?
