The problem was that it was an awful open ending. It was a great show, which knew it was coming to an end (on its on accord, no less, not being canceled for poor ratings), yet it still gave no closure on anything. I know I sound like the typical fanboy here, but if you want to see a series finale with a great open ending, go watch the Angel finale.
This is the perfect comparasion of series finales Angel vs. The Sopranos. Angel was completely open, but was very satisfying, our heroes in an alley facing impossible odds, "I wanna slay the dragon" perfect, Angel was in the never ending battle, all the loose ends were tied up in regards to the season, but the war still rages on. The Sopranos really just added more loose ends to the end, will AJ f#ck up his chance at movie making and club owning, will Paulie kill the cat, what's the retaliation from NY for NJ killing Phil, what will come of Carmine turning rat, will Meadow learn to parallel park?
