Revenge of the Fallen The SOUNDWAVE Appreciation thread!

But his weird voice was part of his character! I call SINO! (Soundwave in name only)
It's STILL G1 Soundwaves voice. Frank Welkers gravely deep evil voice (aka Dr. Claw).

It was cool having Welker as Soundwave again and all. But that's it really.

Does anyone have (or know of) any leaked samples of Soundwave's voice in TF2?

I found a clip of him on youtube yesterday, but it was taken down. Had soundwave....

IN ROBOT MODE!

Yeah, i know, right? It was just for a moment though. He transformed back into satelite off-screen.

But I thought the "Soundwave in Robot Mode" was BS? Are you yanking my Allspark? :woot:

Soundwave is the best new Decepticon in the movie. As for the voice he sounds dark and ominous, Welker did the same voice he did for G1. The difference is they didn't give him that electronic echo in his voice he had back then.

As for his robot mode he is seen briefly changing shape before attaching to the NEST sattelite.

Loved Soundwave. He has always been and will forever be my favorite Transformer. This movie's 'interpretation' of him does not change that one bit!!! his true essence remained unchanged...he is still loyal, powerful, controlling and menacing. The only other thing I wanted (other than seeing him in FULL robot mode) was for him to say "Ravage eject".

KEEP Michael Bay for the third movie!!!

I agree. :woot:

Welker's a legend.

Very disappointed with Soundwave. How hard would it have been to use a vocoder? Does anyone know why they opted not to?

It relegated Soundwave to the point of pointlessness. No vocoder means it was just some other character out there named Soundwave. We already had to put up with a whole new physical version of him........to have to swallow a new voice is taking it too far.

I really enjoyed seeing Soundwave in the movie. There was a strange, eerie "weight" to his scenes. They just felt important the way they were shot and scored, even though he was basically just serving as a communications link and a spy. Also appreciated that even though he wasn't a tapedeck, he still shot Ravage out of his chest...and was that some version of Laserbreak ravage shot out of his on Earth?

Soundwave didn't do much, but I thought he was cool any time he was on screen. I loved that they kept his original voice (even though it's without the echo).

Robert Orci mentioned over at the TFW boards recently that the reason why Bay decided not to add the vocoder effect was because he though it was hard to understand. And to play devil's advocate for a moment, Soundwave was pretty inaudible at times on 'Transformers: Animated'.

Personally, I think what they should've done is add it, but tone it down to make it more subtle but still noticeable.

None-the-less, the Dr. Claw voice still fits the character, and as lars already pointed out, that was the voice Welker used for the character in the cartoon.

That said, despite the small role, Soundwave was cool whenever he was on screen. And here's to hoping that he gets a much bigger role come TF3.

True... They even made a joke about how inarticulate Soundwave's voice was when he tried to call Mrs. Witwicky on the phone and she couldn't make out a word he was saying. The audience would probably have a similarly difficult time if he'd been going through a vocoder.

Besides, I'm sure there will be a fan cut out soon enough that will have Soundwave in all his vocoder'd glory. :hehe:

If they didn't give him the digital vocoder sound, then how is it the same voice? I'm absolutely baffled any of you say that. It's not the same voice at all without that effect.

You mean hard to understand like Bay's motives or plots?

Talk about an reaching. I could understand Soundwave practically all the time as long as it wasn't during loud explosions or fights. He was floating in the silence of space for christ sake. It would've been easy to understand him.

He was MEANT to be inaudible when trying to talk to Mrs. Witwicky over the phone. That was the point!

Soundwave I thought was done very well. He's a spying bot mostly, and him being a space satellite was a cool idea. I thought he was the best new character in the movie.

I really didn't mind Soundwave's role in the Movie. They way I had seen people talk, I thought he'd have nothing but a cameo role. But he appeared several times and coordinated the Decepticon's attacks. It was quite fitting for him. Maybe we'll see him in action in the 3rd Movie.

Good lord Rock Sexton, you need to take freakin' chill pill dude. It's just a damn voice!!

so if they didn't digitalized his voice, did he still talk in a monotone voice? like an expressionless Dr. Claw?

so you can kinda reconize it then.

Also, does he have a mouth? Or a faceplate?
