Spider-Man 2 The Spider-Man 2.1 DVD Thread

All it says is that it will be standard dvd and superbit. I could have sworn Spider-Man 1 and 2 were coming out on bluray. My guess is that they will re-release 1 and 2.1 when SM3 comes out all on bluray this fall.

yeah most likley, all I have seen in stores is certain films from the 1990's and new released films for Blue-ray so yeah expect the spidey films to appear on Blue-ray. by the way......do you have a Blue-ray disc player? they $1,000.

^I have an hd player connected to my 360 and will either get a PS3 or a bluray player. All the great movies I want are on Bluray and I will be buying one soon. If I buy the PS3...the laser drive will more than likely go out within 2 years because of all the movies I watch on it.

Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 will be released towards the end of April on Blu-Ray. During CES 2007, Sony announced it. They didn't annouce a specific day but they did announce it.

Also, someone over at the avsforums was inquiring on what people wanted, in terms of sound, for the Blu-Ray of Spider-Man 2.

It's on the way. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets announced a week or two before 2.1 is released in April.

What is the FX version?
waht was/is the "extra" minute of?

The FX cut only showed the extended backyard scene. That's it. I wish they never showed that version because some people easily get it confused with 2.1.

^ True...buuut I think we've pretty much been shown that it ISN'T!;) and even more so, we've realized that this version is DEFINITLY worth buying.

Ouch!!! :woot:

Whoa :wow:

Try jumping in the air and pull another person towards you. You'll see that he'll move as much towards you as you'll move towards him. Action and reaction. Why should Ock go towards Spidey and not Spidey towards Ock? That's what I'm saying. And I also said the only way for them to meet one another outside the appartment is if Spidey has enough backwards momentum, which he doesn't seem to have. That's all I'm saying. What should I have to support my claims? It's basic physics.

Looking back on things, trying to justify physics in these sort of movies is a complete waste of time. However, you seem to
forget that spider-man has super strength. Like I said, if he's pushed, falling or whatever the hell he's doing in the air, if he's got his webs attached to something/someone and pulls on said webs, the recepient on the end of those webs is definately following spidey where ever he's going. I think your just being overly pedantic here.

Here is a preview that actually shows some of the extra scenes:

I found another link. This one streams quicker than that youtube one.

One of the best superhero action sequences just got BETTER! OMG!! The extended fights were awesome! I see Sam added that scene he talked about on the original commentary. We see how Peter steals the car on his way to MJ's play.
Here's a downloadable higher-res version of the 2.1 Trailer.

Great finds guys! I think i've just been suckered into buying this dvd.:spidey:

Interesting. The question still remains; is 2.1 better than the theatrical cut?

I'm all for extended or director's cut but it has to be better for it to be relevant. What I want to know is why didn't Raimi and company go back and work on the first film...in terms of visual effects to make them fit with the next two films. Say what you want but the visual effects in film one will look so out of place with what they did in parts 2 and 3.

That's the film he really needed to go back and touch up....

It's something that Sony wanted not Raimi.

Sam Raimi talks about the Spider-Man 2.5 DVD

IGN talks with the director about the new extended edition of the Spider-Man 2.

by Jeff Otto

October 11, 2004 - With the Spider-Man 2 DVD currently slated for release on November 30, 2004, Sam Raimi and Sony are already working on a follow up special edition DVD that will feature some extended scenes and extra footage tentatively titled Spider-Man 2.5.

At the press day for the The Grudge, which is produced by Raimi's Ghost House pictures, IGN was on hand to talk to the director/producer about the upcoming special edition of Spider-Man 2.

The release date is not set in stone yet, but it looks as if it will probably be ready mid to late 2005. "Well, I know that I won't be done with my part of [Spider-Man 2.5], these new effects shots, the editing... I'm still boarding the new scenes, so I don't know, but I don't think I can be done until January at least, maybe February."

"I'm kind of completing scenes that we didn't have the money to complete when we did the first movie. I board out, with my artists, a lot of sequences in the Spider-Man movies, that I eventually cut down for pacing sake. Most often times, for money sake, I can't afford them. Now Sony said to me, 'We want to release a 2.5,' because they want to make more money. It's not really that I had some scenes to put in. The movie really was the best I could make it. It's not like I think I could make it better. I said, 'Okay, if you want to spend money and really give the kids a few more action scenes, okay, that's fine.' It's the kids choice if they want to spend that money, then I think it's fair."

So why release Spider-Man 2 and then 2.5 later? Raimi has a very honest answer: "Well, I think that, one, it's just a financial decision by the studio. They know that people who liked the second movie would want to own it as it is on DVD, and then it's just a gamble. 'Oh, if we spend another four million dollars, can we make another ten million dollars? I think that's how it works."

The extra footage will mostly be extensions of action sequences from the original release. "It may not seems like a lot to you, but it's a lot to me. There's like six seconds new of the train, there's gonna be eight seconds new of some water fight you never saw, there's like twelve seconds new on this battle building. For me, though, twelve seconds is six shots that will have to be figured out and within that two seconds, the amount of animation of each of those tentacles and how Spidey's gonna move and it's very complicated for me."

Spider-Man 2 first hits DVD on November 30th, 2004 with the 2.5 edition likely landing in mid to late 2005. You can read our full interview with Raimi here.

Peter voice: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, I read some early reports that said 2.1 is digitally remastered, but not one of the more recent 2.1 DVD news articles I've read have mentioned it. So... is it confirmed that the DVD is a new transfer or was that just what early reports assumed? I hope so, because I always thought the picture for Spider-man 2 was imo just a smidge washed out looking on the first release. If it's better I'm definitely getting it.

Remember the end of SM2 with the wall about to fall on MJ?

NOOOOOOoooOOooooOOOOOoooO!!
Oh, right!... I never thought he screamed NO!??... I just thought he screamed REALLY loud fearing that the wall would fall on MJ (which it of course would have had Peter not stopped it)

Doctor: So, you're spider-man???

Peter: In my dream...Actually it's not even MY dream, it's a friend of mines dream!

LMFAO!! I love that scene hehe.

i WANT it on BLuuuu RAY!!!!!!
Ps3s arent out here yet, and im notgonna shell out like a billion pounds for a blue ray player; so i have never actualy seen a blue ray film on an hdtv...

is it actualy worth it, like.. i have an hdtv, and spider-man looks great on it, and i have a cinema system, so it sounds fantastic, but is blue ray noticably different?
ive never seen it so i honestly cant judge...
