The Superhero Cinematic Civil War of Tomorrow Thread - Part 62

Nahhh
That singer should quit music, his voice is like auditory cancer
I skip the intro every episode this season

I forgot all about Peacemaker S2, not even gonna lie.

It’s worth a watch, though you have to kinda roll with James Gunn’s sense of humor more so than a lot of his stuff. I know that’s not really your thing so it might not be for you but you get your highs and lows with it. I like it, and there is some really interesting stuff there. But even I have to admit there are a couple plot elements I’m not crazy about (and I love most of Gunn’s stuff). I guess my broader concern is that it could turn some people off who are watching it after they’ve only really seen Superman and are expecting something more family friendly like that. And that’s NOT Peacemaker season 2 lol. That’s not to say that it should be (and I’m glad DC is taking different tones with its projects so it doesn’t feel too homogenized). But with Gunn calling season 2 the Man of Tomorrow prequel, I’m worried people could go into it and be a bit turned off.

I've been liking Peacemaker S2 but you can definitely tell that Gunn was spread pretty thin during production. It's kind of got that Disney+ show thing happening where it feels like a movie stretched out over 8 episodes.

Yeah I do kinda see where you’re getting at there. Some of it feels like it could have been condensed because it’s taken a little too long to get around to certain plot points.

Episodes 4 and 5 felt like they could have been merged into one episode, especially since they each clocked in at under 40 minutes.

I'll put it to you like this: Gunn has a plethora of interesting characters and a wealth of things to work with, however, it would be much better if he had more of a writer's room for DC Studios. There is no reason for him to have written all of Peacemaker and all of Creature Commandos by himself. Then from what I've seen so far with S2 of Peacemaker, it's like he's using it as a way to treat himself and get his jollies out for reining himself in for Superman.

But yeah, he needs more creatives at his side.

Going to be hilarious if they renew Daredevil, but, oops, Disney+ subscriptions cratered.
People didn't cancel their D+ subscription when Disney forbade a grieving father from putting Spider-Man on his child's gravestone; they didn't cancel their subscription when that woman died of food poisoning in that Disney restaurant, and the husband couldn't sue because of a clause in the terms and conditions of D+. They surely won't cancel it because freaking Tatiana Maslany told them so.

Gunn’s greatest strength may also be his greatest weakness (I think the jury is still out on this, personally). He’s clearly a workaholic and is capable of producing great material, though it obviously doesn’t appeal to everyone. And when you’re making a single movie or a series,it helps to have that clear, focused vision. That approach can also work for an entire cinematic universe too but with so many films it takes to pull that off, it obviously helps to get a lot of diverse voices in there to provide new ideas. At this point it’s still too early to tell how much input he’s getting from other creatives but I do worry that he’s trying to do too much on his own. If he was just overseeing and producing everything like Feige does then I don’t think he would stretch himself too thin but by writing AND directing so much, I do worry about the future a bit.

That said, I like almost everything DC related that he’s done so far (Creature Commandos was kind of a dud for me be but even that wasn’t bad). And even if I wasn’t into Peacemaker or looking forward to Lanterns, he scores plenty of points from me for successfully rebooting Superman after what Snyder did to the character. If I just get a good saga of Superman/Superfamily films with Corenswet, I honestly don’t care about much outside of that. Though I do worry that Skydance or some other Trump-loving garbage corporation is going to swoop in and ruin the whole thing before it even gets off the ground.

Over here giving us this tired ass Justice Gang but giving these two like five minutes of screentime:

I wanted more Cat Grant and Daily Planet folks.
Only thing tired about the Justice Gang was Guy and his mushroomd*** haircut. :o Mr. Terrific stole the show and Hawgirl didn't get enough screentime.

But yeah, there needed to be more from the Daily Planet crew besides Lois and Jimmy.
