The Superhero Cinematic Civil War of Tomorrow Thread - Part 62

I was bored and asked Gail Simone to beat up James Gunn to get us a new Birds of Prey and Batgirl movies.

God****ingdammit George, I JUST finally bought Furiosa on 4K and you lay this on us? :cmad:

Anyway, that Peacemaker finale...

I was kind of expecting a big cameo but it didn't bring the episode down for me. It would have been foolish to expect a huge DC character to be introduced here but I was lowkey hoping we'd see Bloodsport in prison with Peacemaker or something.

The episode felt more like setup for the future than anything else. I'm gonna take a guess that Superman and maybe Lex end up in Salvation in Man of Tomorrow and that's where we'll next see Peacemaker.

One thing I can say without spoiler tags is that Danielle Brooks was phenomenal in the episode. Overall I liked season 2 but I thought season 1 was a little stronger overall. I would be down for a season 3 but even if that doesn't happen I'm not worried about the supporting characters never popping up again because it's Gunn's baby.

Not gonna lie, I did half expect to see Brainiac in some capacity. Like the reveal that he's behind all those doors.

Maybe if we were closer to Man of Tomorrow but once Luthor showed up a few episodes back I had a feeling he'd be the biggest cameo this season. Gunn pulled a reverse Uno and had the cameos up front with Guy and Hawkgirl too.

Yeah as much as I would have loved to see it, I knew Brainy was a really long shot. That’s okay though; however all of this ends up tying in MoT, I didn’t expect the Big Bad of that movie to make their debut on Peacemaker even if Gunn seemed to be hinting at it.

Honestly though, I’m glad the finale just focused on the core group and what ARGUS is up to. Cameos are fun but they can also just ruin the flow of a show or movie. Marvel and Star Wars have both had this problem and I think Gunn is being careful to avoid that kind of thing.

While I definitely think Season 1 was stronger I did really enjoy Season 2 overall. I thought the finale was good and they really nailed it as far as the character/dramatic moments go which has been the real strength of this show since Season 1 IMO.

People expecting a bunch of crazy cameos are likely to be disappointed and I get it especially with Gunn hyping these last three episodes up but I feel like this worked out better in terms of actual storytelling and character arcs.

I'm definitely down for Season 3 especially after what they set up in the finale.

Meanwhile, Michael Bay...

Yeah, I am disappointed in George Miller. That's not great to hear from him

I don’t get the hate about Vigilante in Peacemaker. He’s funny enough and let’s face it, nobody in that show is even supposed to be likable with maybe the exception of Adebayo.
Vigilante can get annoying at times but Freddie Stroma absolutely killed it in the episode where he met his alternate self. Cena and Danielle Brooks are the MVPs of that show, though.
Jeez, too many of my shows are airing right now. I've got one episode of Gen V and Only Murders in the Building and two episodes of Peacemaker to watch. I'm about to have a very sociable and exciting Friday night :o
I've been keeping up with OMITB and Gen V and the current seasons are putting me to sleep. I get that Only Murders is basically just an excuse for Steve Martin and Martin Short to keep doing schtick in the guise of a show so it is what it is there but IMO Gen V has been a big step down from season 1 apart from Hamish Linklater. I don't know if it was losing Chance Perdomo or what but season 2 kinda feels like it's not all there by comparison.

Is he? :o

Okay, Wonder Man. You've got me. I like this premise a lot

Same. Didn't know it was a show within a show type deal, but I like what we saw.

So Mathew Lillard is Mr Charles. That sounds like nothing. But, Mr Fear is Charles Borough. Well known Daredevil villain. So I take this to mean, Matthew Lillard is Mr Fear

I'm liking this season of OMITB more than the last one. It still feels a bit off, but I loved the latest episode I've seen, with Martin and Meryl visiting the theater. That felt like the heart of seasons 1-2 coming back to the show. Gen V is obviously struggling with Perdomo's sudden passing, but it's still a watchable show. Season 1 was The Boys seasons 1-3 level, this is The Boys season 4 level, to me. But yes, Linklater is the MVP.

The overt political stuff on The Boys season 4 and now on Gen V season 2 doesn't really work for me, though. I appreciate that it annoys the MAGA lunatics the shows are lampooning, but it doesn't bring much to the story IMO, and it's really just a cheap reflection of how bad things are, there isn't much commentary to it. I can see the same **** in any comment section. It's a little tiring. Also, there's a heavy emphasis on the current trans panic, but I find that a smidge performative since neither show (as far as I know) employs any transgender actors, writers, or directors. I do appreciate what they've done with Jordan as a character.
