Murray, Djokovic, Raonic, Nishikori, Wawrinka all out with injuries, what a mess.Apparently Murray has pulled out of the US open.

Looks like Federer and Nadal(who will eliminate each-other) and who Tsonga(r12)? Left to rep the old guard? Against all the up-comers.

Tiafoe 19yo (rank70) vs Federer late night 5 set battle!
Ridiculous Hrs. didn't do Federer any favorst:, but he comes through. I'm loving Tiafoe.
Will look forward to see him climb when he's not running into Fed the first round.
I think it's both a bummer, but also a good thing.Really? Wow, that's crazy and a real bummer for the tournament.
Looks like Murray could be out for the season.
That hurt, ...Mugu out?![]()
Good to see Del Potro doing well again. He had a lot of potential as a young player. Yeah, when a top ranked player drops out they should rejig the seedings if there's time to.That hurt, ...
Venus v Sloane Stephens should be great, although I'm jumping on the Madison Keys train!

Nadal into the semi finals.
He'll have to play the winner of ton8ght's exciting Federer vs. del Potro match!!!
Either one will be tough, Feds beat him more than enough, and Delpo when in shape, (as he looks now) won the US Open.
Great match ups coming either way.
I think when Murray dropped out, they should have readjusted and moved Federer into Murray's abandoned slot, way at the other end of the draw.
So top ranked would not be eliminating each-other on this side early on.
Meanwhile somewhat taking advantage of that, and apparently without dropping a set, breakout surprise has been Pablo Carreno Busta.
After watching him chase every ball commentator nicknamed him Busta'move!![]()
I wonder what world ranking he'll have when he comes back. He'd already dropped back to no.2 even before this but obviously had a big margin over most of the rest aside from the very best.Wow, that sucks for him. But like Sakuraba and I discuss before, he's a quitter. Doesn't try to fight and maintain his fitness. I get it, he's married and he's a dad now. But that doesn't give him a free pass tho.
Oh well, I hope you come back strong Andy.

Depending on how long he's out, but if I had to wager, he shouldn't drop more than no.8 spot in the ranking. I am not sure how ranking works. I was one of the few people who never understood the ranking system because it has been so inconsistent over the years.
I think it's total points accumulated from all countable tournaments (points handed out for various finishing places are also weighted by the prestige of the competition) over the relevant period.
Yeah, but what about those who haven't participated in tourneys in months (ie. Fed for example, goes 2-3 months break, but still manages to be top 3-4 player in the ranking)?
