Congrats to Muguruza for winning Cincinnati. Her first hard court tourney. Like a lot of people have said it all along, she's destined for great things ahead.

Oh right nice. Good to see her getting results on hard court.

Apparently Murray has pulled out of the US open.

Murray, Djokovic, Raonic, Nishikori, Wawrinka all out with injuries, what a mess.

Looks like Federer and Nadal(who will eliminate each-other) and who Tsonga(r12)? Left to rep the old guard? Against all the up-comers.

-----

Tiafoe 19yo (rank70) vs Federer late night 5 set battle! :wow:
Ridiculous Hrs. didn't do Federer any favors:woot:, but he comes through. I'm loving Tiafoe.
Will look forward to see him climb when he's not running into Fed the first round.

Really? Wow, that's crazy and a real bummer for the tournament.

I think it's both a bummer, but also a good thing.
Murray 30, Djokovic 30, Nadal 31, Wawrinka 32, Tsonga 32, Federer 36 :wow:

Looks like players are sticking around on top longer than they used to.
With that comes the higher count of out with injuries.
And as Fed (who skipped the entire clay court season) showed, instead of retiring outright, they can stay around longer by skipping a season or Slam instead of playing in them all no mater what, and come back fresh for the next.
Seems to be the trend. In doing so hence the current age of players wining slams seems to be rising.

I'm think Murray, Djokovic, Wawrinka could strike back hard after their rests.

True. Gonna be a lot of opportunities when this crazy bunch retire.

Man, the mens' quarterfinal is going to shape up to be a good one this year. At least for the top half. Oh, and I think its more likely that someone on the top half of the mens' draw will go on and win it all.

I am kind of stunned that Muguruza got knocked out by that inconsistent Kvitova. Like seriously?! I commend Venus Williams for still digging deep into the tournament lately.
If I had to wager, I think its likely that Venus Williams will play against Karolina Pliskova for the final.

Mugu out? :csad:

I've missed everything so far but will be able to watch from tomorrow.

Looks like Murray could be out for the season.

Wow, that sucks for him. But like Sakuraba and I discuss before, he's a quitter. Doesn't try to fight and maintain his fitness. I get it, he's married and he's a dad now. But that doesn't give him a free pass tho.

Oh well, I hope you come back strong Andy.

That hurt, ...
Venus v Sloane Stephens should be great, although I'm jumping on the Madison Keys train!

-
Nadal into the semi finals.
He'll have to play the winner of ton8ght's exciting Federer vs. del Potro match!!!
Either one will be tough, Feds beat him more than enough, and Delpo when in shape, (as he looks now) won the US Open.
Great match ups coming either way.

I think when Murray dropped out, they should have readjusted and moved Federer into Murray's abandoned slot, way at the other end of the draw.
So top ranked would not be eliminating each-other on this side early on.

Meanwhile somewhat taking advantage of that, and apparently without dropping a set, breakout surprise has been Pablo Carreno Busta.
After watching him chase every ball commentator nicknamed him Busta'move!:funny:

Good to see Del Potro doing well again. He had a lot of potential as a young player. Yeah, when a top ranked player drops out they should rejig the seedings if there's time to.

I wonder what world ranking he'll have when he comes back. He'd already dropped back to no.2 even before this but obviously had a big margin over most of the rest aside from the very best.

Depending on how long he's out, but if I had to wager, he shouldn't drop more than no.8 spot in the ranking. I am not sure how ranking works. I was one of the few people who never understood the ranking system because it has been so inconsistent over the years.

I think it's total points accumulated from all countable tournaments (points handed out for various finishing places are also weighted by the prestige of the competition) over the relevant period.

Sloane ain't no joke.

Yeah, but what about those who haven't participated in tourneys in months (ie. Fed for example, goes 2-3 months break, but still manages to be top 3-4 player in the ranking)?

Gosh dayum, Nadal bageled DelPo in the 2nd set!! Seriously, his forehand and backhand is hitting at will.

What channel was this on, or was it streaming? Couldn't find it.

Hingis and Murray won the doubles. Glad to see her win. I don't really watch doubles much.

The top few guys have a massive margin on the rest. The points you get from winning or getting to finals and semis of the majors (which points are weighted towards) will by itself beat what most other tennis players accumulate over the whole year from all tournaments.
