The Thomas Haden Church/Sandman Thread

I forgot about that, but it was, what, five seconds? Not a big deal.

It is when it takes up what little screen time he had. It looked cool and all. Trouble is that it counts as Sandman screen time which robs Church of screen time.

I think that was the point.

But, it shouldn't have been that way. He's a villain. Villains are supposed to come across as menacing no matter what their intentions.

Especially a main villain.

what the hell was raimi thinking letting sandman survive in sm3, guess just to let pete know his uncles death was an accident

I think that was the point.
It was to me, atleast. Sandman just wanted to save his daughter from dieing, which explains the tears in the scene about forgivness with Peter and Sandman. Though he did form into a giant Sand storm and did what he had ot do to get money, but like I said, it was to save his daughter.

OMG Thomas was amazing on the dvd Commentary , He so open . I enjoyed his opinion a lot .

She is a human being, you know, plus she is not doing porn movies anymore.

Yes, she is. Nice to see someone else that thinks the same way.

Seriously?!?!?!? :wow: :wow: :whatever: :o

So what if she aint doing them anymore, the fact is, she did it, got umped by loads of guys for years, my guess is, she's a little more than worn if you know what I mean. Hell, I had some of her movies a couple years back but like I said, when you marry into the porn industry and you have no part in it, it takes something special.

It takes a special kind of man to cut a total stranger down. :cwink:

thc even said alot of his story was cut from the movie because the studio felt it would have been too depressing. stuff haqving to do with his family and other assorted things that can be found in the deleted scenes thread...probably not any 'memorable lines' though. at least he wasn't begging for his life or anything. but he wasn't a criminal, he served his purpose, as did venom. as much as i would have loved to see him more because he was just so awesome to watch, he served his purpose well

Their right, I read the novel it's very Depressing .

Thomas Hayden Church's Sandman was definetly the best thing in this movie. He stole every scene he was in, wheter he was in human form or not. The hole sandman storyline had this beautiful classic monster aspect in it. Propably the greatest scene was when he resurrected from the sand. It was really beautiful, like Frankenstein's monster rising or something. If only they had made him the main villain.

I'd say he had more of Lon Chaney Jr.'s pathos in The Wolf Man. ****, I wish his scenes with the doctor and the other scene (in the park) with his daughter were still in the movie. Having him more developed would have been great. I still think that they should have reshot the team-up with Sandman secretly visiting his daughter sick in the hospital now and then coming to street level for Venom to be waiting to make the proposition that if Sandy refuses, he'll go up there and kill his daughter (and gives Sandy a quick web trap to prove a point he c an do it).

But Church absolutely went beyond the pale for this limited role and gave a performance on par with Dafoe and Molina in the first tow, but far more moving. Unfortunately he had much less screentime than those actors and what he did half was cut almost in half by the studio for time restraints.

Sad. I feel sorry for Church and I think he is kind of bummed that so much of his character got cut.

*sigh* those bastards... Spider-Man 3 could have been a real masterpiece... and you're right, he definetly gave a performance that matches Molina's and Dafoe's. Actually, I hink he topped them.

I don't think he was anywhere near as good as Molina and Dafoe. They put energy and zest into their performances. They stole the scenes they were in.

Church just didn't have the material to top Ock and Gobby. When he wasn't being all quiet and weepy, he was was not even on screen. His character was a CGI sand storm, or sand monster.

His "villain" dialogue was crappy. "I don't want to hurt you. Leave now", "What do you want from me?" etc. He had no memorable villain one liners.

I didn't care about his dialogue, I was so in love with the way he was portrayed. And I think he had some good lines, like "I'm not a bad person, just bad luck" and stuff like that. The way Church delivered them, made them so much more. He was great. A classic monster. Loved him.

THC's portrayal as Sandman was great. I loved the amount of effort Thomas put into the role. It really showed to.

Agreed. He really did a great job as the Sandman. He was really convincing as a guy who had a bad past but was not a bad person.

Even though i didnt think much of Sandman in the movie, i do think that is possibly the best scene in the movie, the music was great too.

I loved that scene as well as the final battle when he transformed into a giant sand creature.

anybody have scans of the pages of the scenes that were cut from the movie with sandman so i could read them please?

I liked it in the trailer, but uber-Sandman moved slower than I expected. I envisioned him being faster and more fluid with his punches. Hardened waves of sand, if you will.

It was good enough & I don't care how fast he moved, I liked Giant Sandman's part in the movie. It may just be me but I think he was pulled off perfectly.

No question he gave Spidey the worst beating in the trilogy. Did the overall dialogue seem to be a bit...wonky, compared to SP2?
