At this point I think if there is a negative review he is going to get booed for being an idiot!

I really hope we can avoid that kind of mentality in this subforum. We generally have a very good tone here so we should be able to accept if the film isn't for everyone.

Nice to see Thor off to a great start. No wonder Marvel was so fast to drop its review embargo.

Yes I do.

I like Iron Man 1 and Marvel's the Avengers equally for different reasons. I think Iron Man 1 was probably technically the better movie, but Marvel's the Avengers was no slouch and having all these characters come together for the first time was like a magical moment. So, that hype probably boosted the critics scores alone. Both great movies though, and I could sit and watch either of them all day.

I'm so excited that Thor finally looks to join the ranks of upper-echelon MCU.

I don't think any of Marvel's films have handled humor particularly well, aside from Iron Man 1 (and even that had questionable choices). It's like the actors are mugging for the camera. It almost breaks the fourth wall. And to me, the humor in the Russo's films is at odds with the otherwise dramatic story. Scenes like Sitwell's interrogation or Bucky and Falcon in the car just didn't seem to fit in the overall movie.

Like I said, it is what it is. While I disagree with you in general (although there have been moments where the humor was too forced), at this point you seem to know what the score is, which makes complaints about Ragnarok's humor - 17 films in - ring a tad hollow. Just my opinion. :yay:

Stoked to see so many mostly positive reviews
Slightly unhappy to see a number of reviews say the humor tarnishes the dramatic moments tho, but im still excited

I couldnt disagree more in terms of the Russos two MCU films
They had an absolutely perfect balance of humor to drama for me, never once did i think a joke undercut a serious moment in those films

7.7 or higher include Superman, Logan, Spider-Man 2, TDKT, Iron Man, GOTG and the Avengers.

See my comment at 12:17PM pacific time. Also, Guardians of the Galaxy scored a 7.7. I was only listing movies that scored higher then a 7.7.

I always pop a joke when the first negative hits just to lighten the mood :)

Agreed. It's what I love about the Ragnarok board, most people here are friendly and level headed. On the whole it's a calm, respectful place. I'm not going to get angry about a critic's opinion going against the grain, they're entitled to have a differing opinion.

That said, 34 reviews now and still 100% :woot:

Out of all the boards I've been to so far, this is the most welcoming, inclusive and peaceful one. This place is great and like Finarfiniel said, is filled with friendly and level headed people.

Agreed on the Russos. It's actually the first 2 Thor films that I think got it most wrong on balancing the humour.

It is. One could almost call it the spirit of Vartha.

We are all nice people here. You're very welcome to join us. :)

Man,I'm thinking about Vartha while reading these forums for so long. :(

I think this has got to be one of the most positive boards on the forum. The Avengers one is usually pretty well behaved too.

It's just disappointing. I've been saying it for years but I think I've just outgrown comic book movies. That's not to say they can't make good ones anymore (I really liked WW) but the overall trend seems to be comedic and that's just not my thing. I think this will be the first year I go 0/3 with seeing a MS film at the theater. I mean, I saw IM1 6 times and TIH 2 or 3.

The only reason I even see their movies now (and only to rent) is because they're one of the few I can watch with my younger brother. Just not a fan of the overly comedic trend to took off with Avengers. And for the genre as a whole, in my opinion there hasn't been a great film since TDKR. My enjoyment of the genre might be over, and that saddens me a little. The only films I'm looking forward to at the moment are Hellboy, WW2 and maybe Venom & BP.

What do you think of the X-films? They don't have too much comedy.

I'm sorry you feel this way. Personally the MCU is my Star Wars so it completely gels with me. Enjoyed every single one of the movie on varying levels.

The worst marvel board I've been in is the spider-man boards, couldn't handle that too much

Oh man, the feels. You're so right, this board was Vartha's baby. We need to keep being our cool and respectful selves to honour his memory.

I'll be thinking about Vartha when I see Ragnarok for the first time next week. I hope he had an exclusive early screening in Valhalla.

Yeah, I wish Vartha was around to share in all the hype and excitement. Such a great guy, and a great lover of comics, especially Thor. I will think of him for sure when I go to see it for the first time.
