honestly i really don't think it is but they are throwing so many hints that this is a continuation, the king from the book of omens flashback had on the original lion-o's outfit, mumm ra's comments about previous owners.

if they can work it without being stupid its a superb twist

That would be super-weird, then. What the hell would ever prompt the original '80s Thundercats to not only team up with Mumm-Ra, but actually submit to his leadership? It certainly seemed like he was calling all the shots while the lion Thundercat just stood by.

agreed which is why i said if there are going that way it had better be a decent reason, though i do think the classics wouldn't be the ones on the ship, but the ones who hid the book.

So Mumm-Ra would somehow manage to convince the rest of the cats into turning on the original Thundercats? That would be intriguing...

i could see it being set years afterwards where others from the race have arrived and they have built a whole world on third earth and much like grune a load of cats sided with mumm ra

This is a full on reboot. 100% certain.

For the simple fact that it seemed the ancient Thundercats worked with Mumm-Ra to steal a jewell from another race which became the eye of thundera is the biggest hint that this is a full reboot... add to that the characters being here.

Also, in the latest episode, the king having a similar outfit to the original shows lion-o... I think this was more a homage to that. Nothing more.

The show has been great so far and I hope they don't do a 'this is actually a continuation... hehe'.

Anyways, so far, so good. I'm really enjoying it. It has some issues, like everything, but it's been great. Worthy of the name Thundercats.

agreed...its done in the vein of BSG, that they are building their own backstory for what has happened....I would like to know what Mumm-Ras relationship is/was with the Thundercats....makes me how wonder how they ended up on Third Earth as it is obviously not their native planet

I don't find it a slog at all. I feel like we are seeing Lion-O learn and grow from the ground up.

Look at Avatar. Aang didn't learn fire bending until midway into season 3. At the start all he knew how to do was air bend decently.

I greatly enjoyed this latest episode, Journey To The Temple of Omens, We got to see the team in action as each member proved they worth during the trap sequence . I see that TPTB are continuing to explore Lion-O and Cheetara relationship and the mutual growing attraction is progressing into a budding romance slowly.

I hope we get to see more of Mumm-Ra backstory with the ancient thundercats in future episodes down the road . I like that we got full on Super Mumm-Ra.

As for the book, I'm assuming that either the crystal needs to be put in place or that will automatically recount Lion-O journey as it unfolds.

Any callbacks to the 80s series are just mythology gags or easter eggs for the fans.

It's not a power issue, it's a common sense issue. Every episode of Avatar didn't start with Aang impetuously deciding he knew everything regardless of the situation and arguing with his friends over it for the majority of the episode. A conflict now and then like that is fine, but it's so formulaic in every episode of Thundercats so far that it feels like manufactured conflict, which is a big no-no in storytelling.

I think the difference between the Aang and the rebooted Lion- O is that he is learning to be a king. A king is a lot like a General in the army, he is never wrong no matter what and like a general he expects everyone to follow that order. The problem here which is really the source of the conflict unlike a general who has risen through the ranks and earned the respect of everyone under his command. Lion- O as king has been handed this title by an age old tradition that the remaining thundercats beside Cheetara see as outdated.

But that just makes Lion-O a spoiled moron who never learns. "Oh, I was wrong about that thing last week and learned a valuable lesson about listening to my fellow Thundercats... but obviously this situation is nothing like that and I'm totally right and you're totally wrong so shut up!!!!11"

Is saying "whiskers" a thunderian equivalent to saying "****"?

Im with Corp here....if I don't start seeing some variation, Im probably gonna stop watching

That last issue was pretty solid.

And Lion-O hasn't been quite so bad as he was at the beginning of episode three. He was a little emo regarding Panthro, but that's over with.

Yeah, this last episode was pretty good. I probably should have squeezed that in somewhere in my ranting about the previous episodes. :)
