The Tobey Maguire/Peter Parker Thread

We didn't say that, thank you...If they replace Tobey, fine, but I was just saying that he's the guy that I will always think of when I think of the Spidey franchise, not the new guy that MIGHT replace him.
See, that's crazy talk because you don't even know who will replace him. The only reason you're saying that is because Tobey played him first.

Yeah, every time I think of Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire pops into my head. I'm so used to him playing Peter Parker/Spider-man and he can show alot of emotion such as happy, sad, angry,
Happy AND sad? By the same actor?

One fun thing for me is guessing what scenes Tobey is actually in the suit or not. With that outfit it would be very easy to cheat. How often do you guys think he's in the suit?

Tobey was awesome as Black Spidey in the video Game (I wish we'd gotten to seen him fighting crime in the Black Symbiote suit the movie .)

Truthfully Dacman you just want a top star actor who will give the one dimensional performance with stupid one liners, mindless action, and horrible acting.

I don't know why some people think Tobey doesn't play an amazing peter Parker/Spider-Man. I always look foward to seeing him in a Spidey film.

TMags doesn't play an amazing parker/spidey simply because the script he has to work with is unjust to the character of the source material.

I'm not sure which movie he played Peter parker the best in,

The answer would be, in sm1 before he got bitten by the spider. :o

but I think he played Spider-Man the best in Spider-Man 3, just because he was able to play the lighter side of Spidey more because new york loved him.

Sadly that's a good and bad thing. Good because we got a more charismatic spider-man, which was more in character of that of the source material BUT bad because by the movie's standards this lighter, charismatic side of spidey was him being out of character and on some subconscious ego trip.

The armoured truck scene for example was vintage spidey, from the look, dialogue and action BUT by the standards of the movie, spidey was acting out of character.

I thought he was fantastic, especially in 2 and 3, and he brings a lot of emotion to the movies as well. Just look at SPidey 2, when he finally tells Aunt May what really transpired the night Uncle Ben died, he was fantastic in that scene, and not many other actors of his generation could have pulled it off as well as he did IMO. And that is just one example, there are plenty more.

For the dorky Parker. He has always been light hearted and witty in the comics as he grows up being a super hero. Which we rarely saw in the movie.

The funny thing is Tobey himself is now considered a "star actor." And I have never said I want a "star actor who will give the one dimensional performance." :whatever: Unless you consider this guy a star actor

I have said I want him to be witty like in the comics. It's called staying true to the source material.

And for the record, Tobey is mostly one dimensional, sleepy.

I really agree! When he had those glasses on in the first film, I really thought he looked like Peter Parker. I always love the scenes where he is talking to Aunt May and the sad music comes on.

You're going to have the bill bixby hulk tv show theme music play at your wedding, aren't you? :o :cwink: :oldrazz:

DAC why do you keeping pimping Rocky's son so much?

The actor (from Rocky VI, Heroes and the trailer for that bad looking doctor movie) is dull, uninspired, boring, wooden and just your conventional leading man who cannot act on par with the Freddie PRinze Jrs, Keanu Reeves and Paul Walkers of the world. Why do you push him so hard?

Oh, because he has a PASSING resemblence to the comic book character (moreso than Maguire, I admit). But he is a bad actor. You just want him because he is conventionally handsome with brown eyes and promises to play Peter on the line of a wooden performance that will make you feel comfortable. But like Orlando Bloom in Pirates movies, being adequate does not cut it. He is still a dull actor. The fact that you bash Maguire with almost fanatic zeal everyday and push this guy tends to suggest all you care is about muscles and someone who looks trendy. I will pointo ut that Maguire, while not a conventional leading man (and I'd say more character actor than charismatic lead) can be less akward and more "normal" and funny than he is in the Spidey films. It is a conscience decision to play up the geekiness by Raimi. But that is just going somewhere else now.

Some of his scene's with Aunt May, especially in Spidey 2, were some of the best character moments in the trilogy, they always have emotion in them, and Tobey pulls all of them off superbly IMO.

Yeah, Spider-Man, 2, and 3 had scenes that took alot of emotion and the right amount of talking and quite feankly, TObey defenitley didn't dissapoint.

Tobey gave the best performance in Spidey 2 for me, and would have been the best in Spidey 3 but James Franco was at least equal to him in 3.

Isnt it weird to think Franco originally tried for the part of PP/Spidey?

Yeah, the second one was easily the best. One of my favorite films ever.

He was witty in the films, what movies were you watching? As I said before and I'll say it again. You want a mindless action film with no story, stupid one liners, and a Spider-Man who does nothing but be witty and make sarcastic remarks for all the two hours of the movie.

Just for the record he was witty in all three films

Spider-Man 1

"That's a cute outfit, did your husband make it for you?"

"It's you who's out Gobby, out of your mind."

"Well beats taking the subway. Don't mind us she just needed to use the elevator."

"You have a niche for getting into trouble."

"I missed the part where that's my problem."

"Hey everyone, sorry I'm late. I had to beat an old lady with a stick to get these cranberries."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spider-Man 2

"It gets a little itchy. And it rides up a little in the crotch too."

"I have a niche for that."(when Doc Ock" told him he was getting on his nerves)"

"I have a few! Yeah!"(When asked if he had anymore bright ideas)

"This is really heavy."(Holding the side of the building while talking to MJ)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spider-Man 3

"I guess you haven't heard. I'm the new sheriff in town!"(To Sandman)

"A couple of minutes ago wouldn't have been so bad either."(To Harry when Harry mentioned how he came just in time)

"Oh, look at little Goblin Jr. You're going to cry?"

"I'd love to shoot you sometime."(to Betty)

"Is that all you got?"(During his fight with Harry at the Mansion)

"Hate those things."(Escaping the Goblin blades during their aerial confrontation.)

"Where do all these guys come from?"(After his encounter with Sandman)

"I'm going to throw some dirt in your eye."(After discovering Eddie lied about the photograp and the story)

"See ya chump!"(After he broke Eddie's camera)

"Yeah is everything okay here Paul?"(Asked in a mocking arrogant tone when Paul asked if everything was alright with MJ)

So to say he wasn't witty or true to the character is both mindless, unfair, and stupid.

Also in Spider-Man 2 he says to Doc Ock when he throws the coins back at him "Here's your change!"
