Actually, that is fanboyism when you're complaining non-stop. IMO, also shows how nerdy you are to vent on a forum a lot.
^^ Fanboy talking out of his ass!
We have no idea what Sony is up to for the fourth other than it has two undisclosed villains and that the guy who wrote Zodiac (but also The Rundown, unfortunately) is penning the film.
It certainly will turn out better than a Fox superhero movie (thank God Zack Penn and Simon Kinberg nor Tom Rothman are nowhere near to be seen this project), but they could be planning an entire recast and a new direction; or since they are shooting for 2010 they may just give in and buy back the entire cast/crew for SM4 as this is reportedly a one-shot film anyway.
We simply do not know. So quit acting like you know something no one else does.
Anyway, I like Maguire a lot as SM. Rewatching SM3 makes me appreciate his acting ability the more cnsidering he is still believable and empathetic/sympathetic in this role even when he is in such an overstuffed story with inane things like street dances and alien goo. I think he has gotten a much better handle on the Spidey persona since the first movie and I have always felt he played a great Peter Parker. I owuldn't mind him coming back and doing one more and going out on a better film.
But I don't know if he will. And I won't pretend that I do.
P.S. For all those who say Tobey plays himself, watch the gag reel on the DVD.
Spider-Man 2-I'm pretty sure he says a nack for getting on peoples nerves, not niche.
And many of those weren't quips at all. If you really think he was as quippy and smart mouthed as the comics you obviously have never read the comics. Mindless, unfair, and stupid? Grow up.
Contradict yourself much? You know this just makes you look like an idiot. So he was witty. Yet, all I want is him to be witty and that will make it a mindless action movie? Which is it sparky? Was he witty and the movie was still good? Or are you saying he wasn't witty and that would make the movie bad? How is it you even have the brain capacity to type?
He was witty and smart mouthed. He just didn't do it for two hours of the film and you know what? I'm glad he didn't. I don't want a film where a hero is doing nothing but quipping, being smart mouthed, and adding nothing to the film at all.
If I wanted to see a super hero or a hero quipping all the time I'd watch Army of Darkness, Fantastic Four, Batman and Robin, or any other film that's tone really calls for the situation. Yes, Peter was smart mouthed and did quip certain times of the film, he just wasn't doing it the way YOU wanted him to do it.
In the comics, animated series, and video games you can get away with it because they're not live action and the images are different. In the film where the villains need to be taken seriously and the tone is darker you need a hero who is serious.
I don't want him making quips all the time about Venom, Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Lizard, Vulture, Vermin, or Kraven just so he can prove how witty and insulting he is. To me it takes away the seriousness of the villain and makes him look stupid rather than serious.
Just admit it, you want a film where Spider-Man is quipping for two hours, providing horrible acting, and adding nothing to the story.
Agreed, not everything from the comic's would translate perfectley onto film. Thats one of the reasons I'm satisfid with what we gotin the film's. Just look at Venom's costume for example. His costume looked awesome in the comic's, but it wouldn't work that great on film, so they added raised webbing to the costume, etc.THANK YOU!
I don't mind Spidey being smart-mouthed (because that's what Spidey does), but I don't want to see it all of the time. The quips may work well in a comic book, but I don't think it would translate well onto the big screen. He'd just be annoying.
I think that the movies have done well with balancing it.
I also like to point out that I forgot two more Spider-Man quips in Spider-Man 1.
Once again, for the Tobey haters and the Spider-Man haters here is the list of quips/one liners you choose to ignore on a daily basis.
Spider-Man 1
"You have a knack for getting into trouble."
"I was in the neighborhood."
"Nice to have a fan."
"No thanks, had a bite."(After being bit by the spider)
"Hey everyone, sorry I'm late but I had to beat an old lady with a stick to get these cranberries."
"Hey kiddo, let mom and dad talk for a minute will ya?"(After he webs Jameson's mouth shut)
"I missed the part where that's my problem."
"Well beats taking the subway. Don't mind us she just needed to use the elevator."
"It's you who's out Gobby, out of your mind!"
"Oh great."(When he first saw the blades coming at him)
"Well that's a little low."(After Jameson offered him the first price for his picture.)
"I have a knack for that."
"Here's your change!"(His first encounter with Doc Ock)
"This is really heavy."(Holding up the side of the building while talking to MJ)
"Eh it gets kind of itchy. And it rides up the crotch a little too."(Describing the suit)
"We sure showed him."(To Aunt May after saving her.)
"Actually it's not even my dream its someone elses dream."(When talking to the doctor about his dream as Spider-Man)
Spider-Man 3
"I guess you haven't heard I'm the new sheriff in town."(First encounter with Sandman)
"Where do all of these guys come from?"(After his fight with Sandman)
"Oh, look at little goblin jr, you're going to cry?"
"Is that all you got?"(His second fight with Harry in the mansion)
"Hate those things!"(Avoiding the blades during the aerial confrontation with Harry.)
"I'd love to shoot you sometime."(To Betty)
"I'm going to throw some dirt in your eye."(After discovering Eddie had faked the photographs and the story.)
"A couple of minutes ago wouldn't have been so bad either."(After Harry said he came just in time.)
"Yeah, is everything okay here Paul?"(Mocking the bouncer at the club MJ worked at.)
"See ya chump!"(After breaking Eddie's camera)
So once again, I ask the question what is the haters real problem? Your argument holds no water since it's pretty much proven that Peter Parker did provide some witty sarcastic remarks in all three films.
Is it because you want him to go into a long diatribe of insults against the villains? Why? All it would do is take away from the seriousness of the villains that is absolutely necessary to show they're a threat. Comics, video games, and animated series are completely different entities when compared to a live action film.
There are some things that work in films, constant quips with Spider-Man isn't something that'll work in a live action format. You can't have him constantly quipping just so the villains will get pissed off and make a mistake with him, it makes them look stupid and thin skinned at the same time.
It's funny how you provide these facts to the haters and they just disappear because they can't refute the argument. As I said, you can whine, cry, and get angry all you want, but in the end, the Spider-Man films have done just fine without input from us fanboys. It's a billion dollar franchise and it's not because of our "brilliant" ideas, it's because Sam Raimi managed to stay faithful to the characters and provide three solid films.

Are you serious? these lines sucked harder than doc ock's fusion experimentOn top of that, the lines were poorly delivered. Come on now...
This line would have been great had it been better delivered but it wasn't...and to be honest because of the way it was used, it didn't make much sense.
This was purely cheesy small talk that wasn't even funny. The only funny part about that line was seeing Norman's reaction to what peter had said. It seemed so out of character to see Norman laughing and acting normal, especially after he just tried to kill spider-man.
Webbing JJ's mouth was fine, it was a nice touch but the dialogue from spidey felt forced and unnatural.
This was a good line, although it's a recycled line from snake eyes, thanks Koepp for re-using cetain bits of dialogue and not coming up with something new and original.
I never did like this line and why the hell would spidey leave her ontop of another rooftop? It doesn't help that he's breathing heavily when he delivers this nonsensical line.
Was this ment to be funny? One of the worst, poorly conceived attempts at trying to be witty in the history of cinema. Ugh!
This I'm fine with. I would have been happier if he said, "oh crap" instead but it works.
You do realise this is not a quip nor witty dialogue but merely, Parker chalenging JJ's offer.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spider-Man 2
I've had enough of hearing spidey say, knack. It doesn't even sound right.
This is where we see spider-man in his element.
Given th gravity of what was going on here, this is acceptable. although I would have handled the scene and the dialogue differently.
Other than spidey sounding like a shy michael jackson here, this scene was also ruined by the prolongued silence that killed the overall scene.
Not a fan of aunt may trying to make a funny.
Again, this is just peter having a conversation, trying to conceal any light that may expose his ID, which imo was pointless as he had his mask off for 70% of the movie.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vintage spidey!
This was funny because here we have shy and socially inept parker, acting like some pimp-player, trying to smooth talk Betty.
Horrible line.
Bah, typical buddy talk.
This is what most people wanted to see and hear. The symbiot turning peter into a moody, dangerous a-hole, who takes no crap from no one and just gets down to business.
Poor line that should have never been used. A more agressive comment would have made this scene work.
Yes he did, no one is really disputing that BUT its the quality and overall delivery of these lines that sucked so bad it almost hides the fact that attempts at such lines were made. Delivery is equally as important as what is actually being said and sm1 and 2 failed miserably for the most part on both accounts. SM3 faired much better and was a vast improvement in this department but it wasn't without its downsides.
You're getting way ahead of yourself here. First of all, the sandman/spidey meeting is a classic example of spidey being witty whilst going up against a villain, even the whole here's your change line when he went up against ock in the bank. We don't need spidey spouting off every other second but what he says and how he delivers them is crucial in capturing spidey's juvenile persona. However, I'd also like to say that more of spidey thinking out loud to himself also helps. We get line like, "oh great" or "hate those things" which are great BUT there are scenes where spidey is just silent which is just bad. Take the spidey vs ock battle on the train for instance. After that near hit with the train, where spidy goes back on top of the train, trying to find ock, instead of panting away, he could have easily said something like, "come on ock, where are you"...or something along those lines.
I diasgree somewhat. I believe this could work for lesser villains like say, the shocker who spidey could dispatch in about a minute or so. Or to some extent, it could have been used on doc ock, especially for the end battle. If they hadn't butchered ock's character, they could have easily used spidey to taunt ock into making him react carelessly. I would have loved to hear spidey telling ock that he's a failure, a has been scientist and that his fusion experiment is all wrong.
Then you've been watching 3 different films from me. SM3 was a great spidey film but a mediocre movie by itself. sm1 and 2 were half assed and faithful to the characters? Please... we've got an MJ that is a cross bred between Gwen and MJ from the comics, we've got a JJ who's just a loud mouth parody of his comic book counterpart, we had a city who hated spider-man but little to no evidence showed this. These movies could and should be a lot better. Its time that you blind conformists start looking at these movies objectively because when you subscribe to mediocrity that is all you will get in abundance for future installments. Fans wanted Venom, Arad gave it to you and look what happened....everyone and their bloody dog is *****ing about it.
The spidey movies are in desperate need of a much better screen play of the likes that they've never seen. Something that really is faithful to the comics as opposed to going half assed with it.
It's a billion dollar franchise that has done just fine without input from us fanboys. Its a billion dollar franchise simply because it's spider-man. Over the last decade spider-man's popularity has increased among kids and these films will do all they can to appease the parents of such kids just so they can make a quick buck, not only with the films but with the bloody toys too. This evidently seems to be working and is one of the reasons why we'll never get a more and better accurate portrayal of the source material.
If they went the way you wanted them to do the film it would be a cheap, corny, and mindless action film with no story at all.
How exactly did you come to this conclusion? Quote words of mine that support your claim.
Spider-Man isn't the Fantastic Four. Yes, he makes quips and talks a lot smack in the comics, animated series, and video games. But once again those are completely different mediums and you can't have him go into long diatribes of insults, dry humor, and sarcasm in the face of a serious villain. It takes away the threat from said villain and it gets annoying/old eventually.
Did you read my post?
If you want a film where characters spout one-liners and act like goofballs then watch Army of Darkness, Fantastic Four, Batman and Robin, Last Action Hero, and etc. I don't want one of my favorite comic book characters to be given a horrible fanboy treatment just so they can hear Spidey run off at the mouth for two hours.
You clearly didn't read my post.

What are you talking about? It's ALWAYS been this way. Every popular comic book hero has toys, video games, coloring books, and other forms of being advertised after it's been released and gained popularity.
Hell, I remember when LOTR came out and I saw toys, coloring books, bookmarks, the novels(obviously), statues, and etc. Just because it gained popularity doesn't mean it wasn't faithful to the source material. I dont think anyone would quip in those situations, so it didnt bother me.

I completley agree! Just take the battle royal in Spidey3 for example. Spidey was getting hit by Venom and giant Sandman, it would be stupid for him to start making quips whil he's getting the crap beat out of him. I agree with LastSunrise1981, it works well in comic's, cartoon's, etc. But it wouldn't work that great on film.In the movies Peter was often in desperate situations, i know i wouldnt be quipping if i was half beaten to death (twice) or one of the 2 most important people in my life were in danger.

You still havn't answered my first question. Secondly, I'm aware of the merchandising business. However, my complaint is, that these movies don't have the balls to be movies that cater to its overall audience as a piece of solid movie making. These movies act as an instrument to PUSH or should I say PIMP OUT the merchandising in general. BB isn't guilty of this and its one of the reasons why I respect that movie more than the spidey flicks despite me being a die-hard spidey fan.
Your LOTR comment doesn't apply here because those movies accepted that they were movies and that all other mercahndising would bild off it as opposed to the movies primarily being used to promote the countless merchandise.
Lastly, you've made your opinion heard and my opinion is, that these movies are half-assed. If we want to talk objectively, then I'll say that these movies should and could be better. I've been reading spider-man comics for 19 years and I've watched more than enough movies to last me 2 life times, so I have an incling as to how and what would work when trying to adapt a spider-man comic into a movie, especially when it comes to the dialogue...and yes, spidey did have some decent dialogue throughout the 3 movies but the majority of it was boarderline rubbish and I refuse to simply let the fanboy in me, make me ignorant to what I'm actually seeing in these movies by, blindly accepting what I can only kindly describe as half-assed, mediocity. Subscribe to mediocrity and be foolish to expect excellence.
Dude...chillax; if you didn't like the lines or anything, go watch Cinderella.
