The Tobey Maguire/Peter Parker Thread

The point of the symbiote is that it tries to make him something he's not. Once you've seen the attempt to kill Sandman as early as it's shown everything else just lacks magnitude. The animated series paced his progression, but made it a point to show that it's the symbiote and not some streak of inherent agression already present that's making him his own antithesis.

And as for the VA, I think I'll go with what others have said before- I liked CDB's delivery than Maguire trying to force his high-pitched tone to convey anger.

I think that CDB's work in the cartoon is great, and I think that Maguire's work in the movies is great.

Woohoo. :)

I think Peter slapping MJ was more shocking and horrible in the movies than trying to kill Sandman, though.

Everybody in my theater gasped at the same time & stayed in shock.
I got so pissed at Peter for that.

Unfortunately, the audience in the theater I went to did not have that reaction. In fact, the audience applauded at that part.

Needless to say, it disgusted me. Peter's actions were NOT cool and/or funny. It's good to know that some audiences had the appropriate reaction, though.

CDB just gets creepy in Part 2. "I'll follow you to the ends of the earth!!" "And as for you...you're the main course.." The little head-tilt when he said that added points on the creep-o-meter. You think he's going to do it.

i love the animated series. chris barnes did a fab job as spidey in the cartoon but tobey's the best peter parker:woot::heart::heart:

Yeah that's a great animated show

He didn't slap her, he elbowed her by accident. He was too busy fending off people to realise that MJ joined in to try and stop him.

Sure he may not have known it was MJ he was putting some delta-force elbow grease into, but I think the point is, he didn't really care. Clearly, at that time he was no longer the Peter Parker he once was, the one who would never deal a blow to anyone without serious provocation and only when in a life-threatening situation. I think it was a good scene to illustrate how far down the dark path that Peter had gone because he would never have conjured the thought to injure MJ, in any way, physically or emotionally, without the influence of the symbiote.

And I agree that Barnes was a great voice actor. I wonder if he had the face for radio? :woot: I really enjoyed that animated series.

Agreed. The Symbiote caused Peters actions to change and made Him unleash His anger. It feeds off agression and causes Him to unleash anger which is great factor of the Symbiote and which is what caused Him to attack the security gaurds and MJ in the Jazz Club and like you said, He would have never done that as normal Peter Parker. Barnes I enjoyed very much as well in TAS. He was really good!.

This looks really cool .

I just re-watched Spidey 3 at the dollar theatre around the corner, and I gotta say - Tobey getting his "face time" by taking off the Spidey mask in every scene really lowered my enjoyment of the movie.

both fights with harry , pete didn't have his mask on. i gues film had a low budget, lol

agreed.

As it has been said before. It seemed more like Emo Peter Parker 3. I missed the Spider-man part of it. I love the face thing, it was cool in movie #1 where you see his ass get beat (relatively a new concept in superhero movies). But after so long, I just want to see his mask on for 80%of the fight. He can take if off later you know, we have another 2.5 hours to see the Peter Parker side of spider-man.

No more Tobey please, the more his contract increases, the more we see of his face.

even in the Battle Royale he had his mask off most of the time
