This is not a poll for they ended this is a populas thread. So this thread is up to the individual poster to determin there top 10 favorite opening movie scenes. They are the individuals choice souly i will not give a negatory response. I will post mine and then you guys can have at it. Nobody has to like mine for they aren't poll choices and are my individual opinions. I would like to see what a few long time posters could come up with. I may be done poll wise but Bloody is still here. Loved or hated i will continue to bring up issue and things i would like to talk about.
Believe me i don't want to be hated and will become more of a poster and less of a thread junky.

1 The Fellowship Of The Ring Opening Battle Sequence at the foot steps of mount doom.

2 Star Wars: A New Hope. The Rebel ship and then the Emperial ship flying above the planet of tatooine.

3 X-Men 2- The Nightcrawler White House scene is really a great scene. And agreat achievement for the X-Men movies.

4 Batman Begins- I just love how they start off with all the flying bats. A truely Batman opening movie if ever i saw one. Just face i loved this movie.

5 Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire. The best opening Potter movie scene yet. Next to Dumbledore's entrance in Harry potter 1.

6 Van Helsing- Simply loved the whole black and white opening scenes which looked very old school monster movie making. Even if most people hated this movie.

7 The Opening asteroid shower scene after the Charlton Heston introduction in Armageddon.

8 I simply like the Mummy opening scene with the mummification stuff and the statue of Anubus. Call me grouse but it was great.

9 Hellboys opening scene with younger professor broom was a great opening scene. The special effects were best in this then anywhere else in the movie.

10 Pirates Of The Caribbean 1- The black screen with the hot coles and then the ship through the fog. Weither i am the only one or not that whole opening scene made me a Pirates fan and will be so until they stop making them. Pirates 2 may not have been better but it was well worth the ticket price.

Star Wars: A New Hope when the Star Destroyer Chases the Blockade Runner

and the one that eptimoized the Action Sequences, Raiders of the Lost Arc.

1) Goodfellas - Tommy, Henry, & Jimmy dispose of Billy Batts.
2) Raiders Of The Lost Ark - Indy gets chased by the giant boulder.
3) Goldfinger - Bond plants plastic explosive and infiltrates the party.
4) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - Young Indy
5) Pulp Fiction - Honey Bunny and Pumpkin argue over the difficlties of armed robbery and hold up the diner.
6) Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom - the fight in the club in Japan.
7) The Departed - Costello's monologue
8) T2 - the fight in the bar.
9) Reservoir Dogs (though I found the film overrated) - The "Like A Virgin" monologue
10) True Romance - Christian Slater tries to pick up a girl at the bar. And fails miserably.

Nightcrawler's attack on the White House. I was like:

I love Jurassic Park's opening. I'll never forget the first time I saw it.

People rave about the opening for X-men 2 but I actually prefer the opening to X-men 1.

Seeing young Magneto being ripped from his parents by the Nazis and his powers slowly starting to mature ... powerful stuff.

No one's mentioned The Two Towers' opening

Bloodrayne (Ok, tech it isn't the opening...it's the opening credits artwork)

I hardly remember anymore. Jurassic Park...Armagddon...don't pay attention to openers that much.

Just one, Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I love how it's all cel animation but than suddenly the refrigerator that landed on Roger opens and it still looks animated but the camera pans away revealing it to be a live action prop with roger being still animated. Amazing. So awesome.

5. Scream - It was just a cool scene, It scared me when I was younger but now I just think its pretty good...for a horror film

...actually I take that back, after reading a few list I forgot Jurrasic Park, now that was a cool scene...it beats scream's imo

4. X2 - Nightcrawler scene was just absolutely amazing

3. X-men - I just thought I enjoyed this more than X2 because X-men was the first actual cool comic book movie (made in my generation) and watching Magneto screw up that fence in the beginning just made me know that the rest of the movie was gonna be awsome

2. Lord of the Rings: The fellowship - I thought it was a cool war scene...I still watch it on DVD today, it was really artistic.

1. The Matrix - BEST OPENING EVER. Trinity's chase was just so cool, it hooked you up for the whole film....It was the first movie I saw someone move like that. It was really suspensful and I like the parts where shes jumping on the rooftops with the Agent running behind

Oh, I remember going to the store in 1997 and buying the vhs with my older cousin. The part where the boyfriends guts fall out scarred me for life. :(

Yeah that seen freaked me out too...I like how Wes added a tragic part to it by having her unable to scream for help (to her parents) cause her throat was crushed...

but I think the hanging part was the part that really freaked me out when I first saw it

#1. Manhunter. Just watch it and you'll know what I mean. This will likely be my favorite opening scene of any movie I'll see for the rest of my life.
#2. 2001: This is a cheat, because the "opening sequence" is fairly long.
#3. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
#4. Kill Bill vol. 1: short, brutal and nasty; sets the tone for the rest of the movie
#5. Return of the King: can only really be appreciated in the context of the other movies, however

The Shining
A Clock Work Orange
Donnie Darko
Jurassic Park
Fight Club
American Beauty
The Ring (Remake)
LOTR - The Return Of The King
The Matrix
Star Wars - All of them.
Batman '89

What about Jaws? The skinny dipping girl getting ripped apart. Speilberg really knows how to set up a movie in his opening scenes.

the ROTJ opening sequence(the rescue of Han Solo) kicked all kinds of ass.

Without taking more time to think, I can't actually remember a lot of opening scenes, even from some of my fave films :(

 From short term memory (and copying from the lists above :O ) the following are good:

Saving Private Ryan
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Matrix
FOTR
The Two Towers
SW
ESB
X1
X2
Gladiator
