Films that don't live up to their opening scene

I agree with him. That first scene on the phone was extremely creepy, but after that it became clear that it was more of a parody than a serious horror film.

Not EXACTLY precisely what you asked for, but Die Another Day opens with a good pre-teaser sequence - exciting, gritty(ish), downbeat - but the rest of the film is so lame and cartoon-like it seems as if it's a completely different movie.

Same here--if we had more story concerning his capture and eventual taking out of MI6, it would have been a hell of a lot better. Less gadgets and such, but actually have Bond going AWOL to handle business would have been pretty cool.

Elektra, the first 5 minutes are great, sadly it goes down hill.

Yeah, that opening sequence was cool, espicially when she gets to the guy she's assigned to kill--"Don't worry, death isn't so bad...I died once." :word:

DINOSAUR- This Disney movie features quite possibly the most amazing opening of a film, ever. The following of the egg throughout an entire dinosaur kingdom gave me chills. The trailer remains my favourite trailer of all time(which was just the opening). Originally, the film was imagined as having no dialogue- just a story of dinosaurs through images(much like the Age of Reptiles comic books). However somewhere along the way, some executives got in, had them talk, made a bunch of lemurs the main characters, and, well, the movie sucked. But the opening... heartstopping.

Same here--if they kept it without diologue, it would have been a hell of a lot better, but NOOOOOOO...it's Disney so we HAVE to see silly talking animals. :whatever:

Tenecious D & The Pick of Destiny- The entire opening sequence done entirely through song is great. Once the music stops and the characters start speaking, it totally loses everything. Would have been a far better film if they just sung the whole damn thing.

I haven't seen enough of The Pick of Destiny to have a good idea of it, but if the rest of the movie is at least half as good as Beezleboss, then it's f**kin' awesome. :woot:

"Yes you are f**ked
S**t out of luck
Now I'm complete and
My c**k you will suck!"

:woot::up:

x2- I like the rest of the film however, none of the action scenes equals the coolness of Nightcrawler's assassination attempt on the president.

in a 100 percent agreence (Except the part about me liking the rest of the film)

Desperado, it starts out and you think its gonna be something new and great but then it turns out to just be a big-budget remake of the first movie. :o

Mission Impossible 3- It starts out really intense and exciting but then after that the both the story and action get really silly.

I don't know why, but I thought of "Superman Returns" when I saw this thread. I thought the opening scene of the destruction of Krypton and the nostalgic opening credits were the best part. For some reason, I enjoyed those first five minutes way more than the airplane sequence or the New Krypton scenes.

Spider-Man 3. It seemed like it would be as good as SM2.

I feel the same way (but it may be different from your reason).
Right when I saw the Columbia Pictures lady, along with the familiar Spider-Man theme, then the Marvel logo, then the web, then seeing "Spider-Man 3" on the screen, I was amped. I loved Spider-Man 3's intro (visually) more than the first two, and I was hyped up for the movie to fulfill what I had anticipated.

...we know what happened after that.

:down :whatever:
x2.....

Scream.
I'll never forget the first time I watched that. I thought the opening scenes with Drew Barrymoore were the creepiest I'd seen in ages, and thought "finally! They've made a decent horror flick."
Then imo it all went downhill.

Sum of All Fears- It wasn't an amazing opening, but it was pretty cool but the rest of the film wasn't very exciting.

Lucky Number Slevin- I did love the movie, but the beginning was so well-done.

Scary Movie 4, opening scene with Shaq and Doc Phil is awesome. Rest sucks

"What's it gonna be, Kyle? **** or destiny?

*Kyle lifts up shirt, Whispers*: ****!

Spider-man 3....

the credits got me pumped...

the first Goblin fight pumped me up more...

They lost me at amnesia that luckily knocks out all the info on Pete/Spidey...

Dawn of the Dead '04 - Don't get me wrong, I love this movie. But, the opening credits with the news footage of the infection, and then, playing in the background, Johnny Cash's "When The Man Comes Around"....that's just perfect. And the movie can't live up to that.

Indeed, it was perfect.

What?! Could you please give us a reason as to why you think that?

I agree with scream not living up to its opening scene. You have famous at the time Drew Barrymore being tormented by some really horny voice. then wam she's dead! Famous actors/actresses who you think are going to be protagonists don't die in the beginning! Then the whole scene with them stabbing each other...:o it did make scary movie a lot more funny though.

Definitely.
I was rolling my eyes all movie after the amnesia. It continued to get worser and worser.

Hey, it happened to Norman in the comics. I'm pretty sure Harry had a bout with amnesia in the comics as well (can't really verify, though :O).

The remake of Black Christmas.
That was the SCAREST opening i've ever seen!....the after the title poped up...it went to cheesy/remake hell.

Elektra, liked the first 5 minutes where she was going to assasinate some guy.

Batman Forever-The shot of the coin flipping with the batsignal in the background gave me chills. Then out went two-face and in came joker jr. If we're counting the deleted Arkham scene from the beginning, most def. this movie.
