Films that don't live up to their opening scene

Elektra, liked the first 5 minutes where she was going to assasinate some guy.
I remember watching the first 10 mins on yahoo movies, I couldn't wait for the movie becasue that opening was awesome. Then the movie after that sucked.:cmad:

Im also going to say Hellboy. That WW2 opening was awesome. So awesome I saw it twice just for that scene. Even though I liked all of Hellboy, the rest of the movie jsut wasn't as great as the opening. But Hellboy is still pretty good after that though.

I don't know why, but I thought of "Superman Returns" when I saw this thread. I thought the opening scene of the destruction of Krypton and the nostalgic opening credits were the best part. For some reason, I enjoyed those first five minutes way more than the airplane sequence or the New Krypton scenes.

I honestly had to keep from screaming from excitement at the opening credits.

SWORDFISH

:cwink:

Yeah that blew me the f-away!!!

Tenecious D & The Pick of Destiny- The entire opening sequence done entirely through song is great. Once the music stops and the characters start speaking, it totally loses everything. Would have been a far better film if they just sung the whole damn thing.

I thought of this immediately when I read this thread. The opening was so freaking awesome. That there was no way the rest of the movie could be better.

I had to watch it several times to fully appreciate the whole movie, but that opening! My god it is a rock fans wet dream.

Scream. The openoing sequence of that was damned scary, the rest sucked donkey balls.

Scream and Elektra definitely but one that I've noticed that isn't on the list that should be?

Friday the 13th Part 2 - (don't get me wrong I still love this one and I think it and the first one are the only geniunely ''good" movies in the series) but to me those first few minutes with Alice are damn tense and suspenseful, you just know that someone's outside her place and she has it coming, but she gets it when you least suspect it.

Three Kings - I have big problems with this movie, as it can't seem to make up its mind exactly what genre it is supposed to be. One minute it's a comedy, then it's dark and serious with torture scenes then all of a sudden it's an advenure explorer movie that slwoly becomes a macho popcorn flick. Personally, I thought it was at it's best at the begining when it was a good Gulf War satire. Once the cow blew up, the film hit its peak.

The Way of the Gun - Don't get me wrong, I love this, but it was marketed as a totally different film. I can imagine anyone who wanted to see the dumb criminals buddy movie the trailers showed would have walked out after 20 minutes when it became a serious post modern western. Even to me, the pacing is odd. After the greatest comedy opening scene ever (IMO) plus the post credits sperm donation scenes, all laugh out loud humour vanishes for the rest of the film, which does make it a struggle to get through to the end!......
