This is, without a doubt, the most bizarre thread I've ever seen here. The only thing that came close was some of the discussion on a small local news outlet called "The Uptake" during the Franken/Coleman recount in Minnesota. The coverage was really good and the discussion got kind of crazy (but not as crazy as this). One person used the name "Bachmann Jindal 2012" and was posting some really wild stuff (but not as wild as Taarna). Too bad it was one of the mods having fun with us.

I'm kind of thinking that Taarna isn't really crazy, but is just having some fun. In an odd way, I sort of hope I'm wrong, but I guess it doesn't really matter as long as the entertainment factor is there.....

Not to fault anyone in particular or point fingers but Taarna's devotion to trump is not nearly as crazy as some of the early Obama supporters. That was cult-ish. Now there are definitely some cult-ish Trump supporters out there now. I would say it's misguided optimism but that's just me.

There are ALWAYS crazy devotees of whomever is running for President. Clinton, Reagan, Bushes, etc. Anytime there are 100s of millions of people in a room, you are, by definition, going to have some nut jobs. It's a statistical impossibility for it to be otherwise.

Taarna's "alleged" devotion to Trump probably isn't as crazy as some other Trump supporters too and it's just as easy to say Taarna's devotion to Trump is not NEARLY as crazy as some Reagan supporters or some Clinton supporters.

There's an element to what you are saying that goes specifically to race and social perceptions. I've found it much more likely that people single out "fanatical" support of Obama than they do other candidates. I don't see a big difference in the "crazy" support of Obama, Clinton, Reagan, etc.

EDIT: There WAS indeed cultish obsession on the part of some with regard to Obama. Some of it was due to the fact that he was African-American (Yes, Mr. Trump, I said African-"American"). There was also a "Hate Obama no matter what he does or says" cult that was more probably fanatical than the "I love Obama no matter what he does or says" cult and, yes, it was in a large part due to him being African-American. This has nothing to do with racism, largely...there of course will always be racism. It has to do with the media, 24 hour news cycle, and the Internet. It's much more visible now. Obama also had the youth vote and that crowd is largely fanatical, period.

As is the evangelical movement which was a huge anti-Obama "cult" (if you will).

One thing I've found interesting over the last several years...."Conservative" seems to have been hijacked by the evangelical wing of the republican party. Conservative now seems to mean something along the lines of following biblical scripture rather than the Barry Goldwater stance (waaaaaaayyyyy back when) on gays in the military; which was "Someone else's personal life is neither my nor your business".

Wonder how that happened and I really do wonder where Mr. Trump stands on the issues raised by the "religious" conservatives and civil liberties. Placating the fundamentalist wing is key to getting the republican nomination and doing that makes it very difficult to win a national election. Polls as of now mean next to nothing.

To be fair, the concept of building the wall is not really insane. What's insane is his purported plan on how the wall will be paid for. In his plan, he would want Mexico to pay for the wall. Now how is he going to force another country to pay for a wall you want. That I don't know.

And his idea of a backup plan in case Mexico refuses to pay is equally ridiculous. He proposes to seize the funds that illegal immigrants worked for to pay for it. Say what you want about illegals being here or not, but taking their money raises questions of ethics, and it's going to be messy dealing with the banks, since immigrants are allowed to open bank accounts here, and I'm sure a majority of their money would be in the banks.

Well its largely pointless. Most latino illegal immigrants are people who flew into the country and simply didnt leave when their visa expired. So unless Trump is planning to build a wall that is over 45,000' feet tall its not going to do much good.

And coyotes have beend smuggling people in for so long that it wouldnt take them long to find a way to circumvent Trump's wall.

Trump's wall would be about as effective as a paper dam, and frankly I dont want my tax dollars going to another pointless thing. If its between some of my tax dollars going into peoples pockets and putring food on theie table or building Trump's stupid wall I prefer the former.

That's unfortunately quite unlikely, nobody gives less of a **** about the economically or politically disenfranchised than your average Republican candidate.

NAFTA is the reason we have such a huge illegal immigration problem in the first place. NAFTA was horrible for every day Mexicans. It forced the price of corn so low that every day farmers couldn't make a decent living in Mexico so they had to come North just to make a living.

Why wouldn't USA have the power to make another country do something? Mexico is able to do a lot with their manufacturing because shipping to the USA is cheap, much cheaper than shipping from Asia. So you tell Mexico to build a wall or watch NAFTA go by by...

I like your logic. I'm going to go home and tell my neighbors that they need to build fences along our borders to keep their animals out of my front yard. I think some of the poop might be a result of their dogs. I'll spring for the front part of the fence or have the city build it for free.

As far as NAFTA goes, that's a threat that won't fly because the people who are really making the money off it are the ones who have the political clout. If you don't think American business has their hands in those pockets, think again. It didn't get passed because it was good for Mexican or American workers.

I know it'll take some imagination, but can anyone out there think of a a slightly better solution to this problem than telling your neighbors to foot the bill for a wall that won't work? C'mon now, try REAL hard and I'll bet you can come up with something.
