The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn

This movie didn't have to be broken into 2 movies, they could have easily done 1 movie.

Seems to me that after Harry Potter split their final book into two movies, Hollywood takes note and now doing it to other book adaptations, like this one and I heard The Hunger Games will do likewise to their last book, as well.

Eesh I hope not. While I didn't like Harry Potter splitting up into two, it was pretty necessary. There wasn't a lot in that book you could take out like you could with the other ones. This though it just seems like they stretched it far so they could get it into two movies.

Just a reminder, kids.

This thread is to discuss the new Twilight film, and the franchise in general. It is not for:

- Making fun of Twilight fans. If you are coming into this thread to do that, stop now. If you can't stop yourself and post something bashing Twilight fans, you will be receive a one-month probation. No exceptions.

- Bashing Twilight for the sake of bashing Twilight. We realize this series has as many detractors as it does fans. However, if your purpose coming into this thread to announce that Twilight sucks just for the purpose of aggravating Twilight fans, you will also be dealing with some time off from the boards. Again, no exceptions.

To the Twilight fans: if someone is here to troll, just report the post and it will be dealt with. Don't make matters worse by engaging them, the staff will take care of them for you.

Thanks to everyone in advance for your cooperation.

To those who decide to ignore danoyse's warnings...you don't want me to be the mod who gets the first response when your trolling gets reported...

Sucks the TF boards never got such...detractor warnings.

Anyways the splitting into two movies is an obvious cashing in technique. I feel like I should pay for the first movie and just hold on to that ticked and tell the doorman that I already paid.

Nikki Finke reports BD1 has made $30.25M in midnight show sales alone. If the weekend follows the same pattern as New Moon did, it could end up with $150M. A personal best for the franchise, but not #1 in box-office records.

I think TDKR and BD2 stand a better chance of breaking DH2's record.

That's because Twilight fans don't hang around the TF forums for the purpose of mocking something they like.

God forbid there's a huge, financially-successful franchise aimed at *Gasp* GIRLS?!?!?!

The hatred for this series is proof positive why the fanboy community is full of losers. They can't just enjoy their stupid franchises aimed at them. No, they have to waste every ounce of breath smack-talking Twilight because it geared 100% for the 18-49 female demo.

Danoyse has warned on multiple occasions here and I'll re-iterate. If you come in here only to troll, flame and ridicule Twilight, Stephenie Meyer, the actors and its fans...well...you'll regret it. I promise you.

FYI. This isn't up for debate either, i.e. don't "quote" me and try to get one going. This is meant 100% as a stern warning towards trouble-makers.

I think splitting the book into 2 movies was fine. Between the wedding, honeymoon, and pregnancy drama, the film's running time is well over two hours. For a Twilight flick, that's enough. I don't think anyone wants to sit through a 3-hour Twilight movie.

Breaking Dawn 2 doesn't have a chance to break Harry Potter's record for one reason, it doesn't have crossover appeal. Not bashing the series, just stating a fact, the majority of guys don't like the franchise. I'm going to see it this weekend, but it's a tradeoff with my girlfriend for the comic book movies she sees with me.

I'm not a fan of the series, but I'd never actively campaign against it, it's not for me, it's for girls. Just like the romantic comedies that are always churned out, I might think they aren't any good, but that's because it's not geared towards me. For every Batman, Iron Man, etc., there should be a Twilight or Kate Hudson movie.

I wouldn't be so certain about that. The fans for this movie are more rabid than Potter's based on opening weekend take, which has a chance of breaking $169 million next year if that's still the record. Also it won't have the advantage of 3D.

The Twilight films are very front-loaded, but they still manage to gross $300 million domestically. So, I'm sure the final-final movie will still be a big hit whether it breaks records or not.

Hitting around $300 million at least is already a given, the question is whether it can break the opening weekend record.

I liked Eclipse and New Moon Surprisingly. But I feel like this Franchise has really jumped the shark. Did you guys really enjoy the 4th movie and book. I just find it hard to believe people enjoyed that book...

IMO the HP films were more rewatchable I know a couple of people that saw the DH part 2 3-4 times. However as far as the Twilight films go these same people see it once and there fine seeing it only once.

It won't. When it's all said and done, I think "New Moon" will be the peak of the series.

Some quick thoughts:

- Bill Condon does get some nice, somewhat nuanced performances from the trio. The honeymoon sequence, cut with Ed and Bella playing chess, was a nice touch. Really liked the James Whale/Angel-styled flashback for Edward, very classy.
- Yes, all the ludicrous things involved with Bella's... ahem, birthing scene does happen. It's mostly implied with cutaways to sounds, but it does get the point across.
- Carter Burwell and Guillermo Nevarro did a great job composing the music and supervising the photography. It's a great-looking movie, that's for sure.
- Didn't like the end credits. Whatever happened to continuity with the past two movies' end credits? Why are they using the Watchmen font all of a sudden?

I agree about the score and cinematography. Say what you want about the story, but the production values have gone up a considerable amount since Catherine Hardwicke's original which was a VERY indie-looking film.

awe..seth clearwater was so damn cute in this movie.

What really surprised me was Burwell's score for this film. He did a horrible electronics and electric guitar score for the first movie (but that was because Hardwicke demanded it, like she did for Red Riding Hood), but he dispensed all of that for this movie. Thank you, Bill Condon.

And I think this was Guillermo Nevarro's first film he's shot in scope. Virtually all the other films he did before were in the flat 1.85:1 ratio.

The only thing i hate when they split a movie in two parts is when two movies have the same title.

I wouldn't give Bill Condon too much credit. Alexandre Desplat and Howard Shore took the music a different direction. So, Burwell just followed their lead - to the point that he even used some of their themes in his score.

Best of the Series if you ask me but far from the best film of the year. It was a good and surprisingly faithful adaption.

I still prefer New Moon. And that's only because Edward is a terrible character and Bella should have hooked up with Jacob.

Lol, Jacob is just as bad. Its her wedding day and he's still trying to make a move on her.

They turned Jacob into a jackass to make it seem like Bella made the right choice. But in New Moon it's a different story. He's actually a decent character and Bella had the chance to escape the emo-fest.
