Oh JoePa, you've kicked the Wildcats asses more times than I am willing to admit. None the less, whatever mistakes you've made, your greatness cannot be denied. Rest in peace, old man.

What happened at Penn St. is a shame, but Joe Paterno was a great coach. This scandal may tarnish his legacy, but despite it, he still was one of the all-time great coaches. Hopefully, he can rest in peace and finally put this whole affair behind him.

Something bad must be about to break out at Oregon. Word is coach Kelly is in talks to coach the Buccaneers.

He'd be a damn fool to ever go to the NFL and any franchise that would hire him would be foolish to do so.

National Signing Day is almost here. I wonder where DGB ends up at? I would love if Texas could get him. Best WR in the nation.

Damn, 'Fire...didn't know your cheerleaders had it like that.

Well folks, it's National Signing Day. The heavily trumpeted time of the year where 18-year olds get way too much attention paid to them and proceed to befittingly engage in acts of self-indulgence and jackassery that we all could only aspire to as children... and that doesn't even include the unseen recruiting violations that will make news in 2-3 years. Ain't it grand?

At any rate, on with the festivities. Last year brought such splendor as the early season Probation Bowl clash between Ohio State and Miami, the pursuit of the almighty dollar restructuring conference alignment and the "every game matters" mantra touted by playoff opponents going right out the ****ing window. Also of note, Oklahoma State found themselves the latest in a long line of complainants, on the outside looking in of the title game. This was particularly surprising because their coach is a man! (He's forty...four!)

With that said, allow me to pose the Top 10 Imperative Inquires of the Season (not in any specific order), freshly delivered from the home office in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico...

  • What schools will be involved in the seemingly unending game of Musical Conference Chairs this year?
  • What will cause me more undue amounts of grief; all the talk of how the BCS is bound to eventually fall or the BCS itself?
  • Over/Under on number of times Lou Holtz visibly manifests saliva during a broadcast? 8.5
  • After years of sewing the seeds of discontent, having surreptitiously sought the cover of irrelevance to guise its insidious intentions and punctuated by the recent defections of Utah, Texas Christian and Boise State, is this the year that the Mountain West Conference preys upon an unsuspecting public?
  • What will be done to resolve the horrible paradox of the Big Ten having twelve teams, while the Big 12 boasts ten teams?
  • Because we can never have enough bowl games, is this the year that the Bacardi Bowl makes its triumphant return?
  • In lieu of recent dominance, will the SEC find themselves the subject of an antitrust violations investigation?
  • If any of you dare to disparage the University of Georgia, will our illustrious Lord of the Sports Forum, Immortalfire, summon UGA cheerleader extraordinaire, Anna Watson, to beat the living crap out of you?
  • To further hammer home the irrelevance of geographical placement, will the University of Hawai'i be invited to join the Mid-American Conference?
  • Just what monstrosity of a uniform will emerge from the University of Oregon's athletic department in an effort to discombobulate and scare opponents this year?
So, let's get to it. Talk about your favored school's incoming recruiting class, prospects for the upcoming season, how much you hate Nick Saban or whatever else might be topical. Go!

Fear.

I hear she's going to play linebacker along side our newest recruit, Josh Harvey-Clemons.

I love the class Texas pulled in. Stole from LSU, Oregon, TCU and Tenn. at the last hour. We also just got our first recruit for 2013 today.

:argh:

I live in both the Clemson and UGA sections and yet continue to root for the Gamecocks! :cmad:

Georgia Tech's logo needs to be one of those teeny-tiny ones.

New rules. http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsport...n-kickoffs-touchbacks-approved-by-ncaa-panel/

Next fall, teams will kick off at the 35-yard line instead of the 30. Also, players on the kicking team can’t line up for the play behind the 30-yard line, which is intended to limit the running start kicking teams used to have during the play.

Also, touchbacks on free kicks will be moved to the 25-yard line instead of the 20 to encourage more touchbacks. Touchbacks on other plays (for example, punts that go into the end zone, or fumbles that go out of the end zone) will remain at the 20-yard line.

Approved new wording in the football rules book regarding blocking below the waist. Offensive players in the tackle box at the snap who are not in motion are allowed to block below the waist legally without restriction. All other players are restricted from blocking below the waist with a few exceptions (for example, straight-ahead blocks).

Players prohibited from leaping over blockers in an attempt to block a punt. Receiving-team players trying to jump over a shield-blocking scheme has become popular for teams in punt formation. Receiving-team players try to defeat this scheme by rushing into the backfield to block a punt. In some cases, these players are contacted and end up flipping in the air and landing on their head or shoulders.

ESPN continues to lead cable by a mile in terms of subscriber fees

So. The reason, for example, the Rose Bowl is on ESPN, instead of ABC – both are owned by Disney Co. – is because ESPN wants as much premium programming on its channel as it can get. Then it can ask for higher sub fees from its carriers and those carriers will pay it, even if they have to hold their noses when they do.

It’s the reason college football’s BCS National Championship, to cite another example, is on ESPN and not ABC. Those big events help brand ESPN and allow it to ask for, and get, the increased sub fees from its carriers.

Temple will join the Big East in 2012. Second times the charm I guess.

Rumor has it the Big East is talking with Villanova to see if their football team is ready to step up. Haha a powerhouse. They have to rename the conference right? Teams from all over the country. Any ideas for a new name?
