Comics The Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Thread!!!

I wonder if this change in artist is a good sign. Has anyone seen Mr. Miyazawa's run in Runaways and if so was his art any good?

Some like his art, some love it, other despise it. The usual, I would say. But he is not there for the long run, Lafuente will be back after that two-parter.

Ok seriously, WHAT IS WITH BENDIS AND THE MANGA ARTISTS??? Takeshi Miyazawa is the one who drew Spiderman Loves Mary Jane...ugh!

They're more cartoony and colorful than manga, and that's apparently what Bendis wants for his work on the Ultimate Universe. He's going for an overall lighter tone, and he does it through his artists and his villains (Mysterio is way less dark than the average villain of USM, even is still a menace).

You know what I bet he is doing? Bendis is pulling a New Coke on us. We all complain about Lafuente, so he brings on this guy for a couple issues, and then when Lafuente comes back we are in love with him.

I think you're absolutely right mre, seriously, i much prefer Lafuente to this guy.

i second that!!! I liked lafuentes work in the first place. as long as bendis remains on the book i'll buy it. (or try to.)

Apologies in advance for my ignorance...

I have become a reader of trades exclusively, and have become rather confused as to what's currently going on with this title. The last thing I read was Ultimatum, which made it seem (or flat out said, I thought) that USM was ending.

Since I don't see the comics until they've been collected well after they've hit stores, I don't know if those Requiem issues happened already. Are these going to be collected in a trade?

So basically, USM is ended, correct? Not including those however many Requiem issues. And if that's the case, this "Ultimate Comics Spider Man" is what, a continuation of USM under a different name?

I'm just hoping USM stays alive in some form, even under a different name, because it was one of my favorite books, and I really hated the way Ultimatum ended. I also hated almost everything about Ultimatum, but that's besides the point.

Basically, any summation you can give me would be appreciated.

There were two Requiem issues, and Ultimate Comics Spider-Man is a continuation of USM, but 6 months later.

He's been 16 since the clone saga IIRC

Oooooooooooh!! when is his birthday? when the original peter parker birthday? i don't think it's been said

Awesome, thanks. I'll have to pick up the Requiem issues at the shop near me then, since I assume they won't be collected.

They will be collected in Ultimate Requiem which collects the requiems for Spider-man, X-men and the FF

Preview for Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #5 :

http://forum.superpouvoir.com/showpost.php?p=314954&postcount=87

Miss Pryde seems up there with Aunt May in the Badass Mom Club :woot: And apparently
her household will also become a haven for super-powered beings. Finally Bobby appears, we just need Jessica and then the cover for issue #1 will be complete!

And I wonder what the deal is with the solicitations in that book... the solicitation for issue #2 would have fitted issue #4 and the one for issue #4 would have fitted issue #5. Did Bendis purposely send bad synopsis to the people who makes them or what???

I have a question. I'm interested in collecting the Spider-Man comics from the beginning, but I'm really confused on what to get. I imagine it will take quite awhile for Marvel to get through all the comics, but Essential seems to be moving along quite well. That said, I want the comics in color. The black and white just bores me, so I was thinking about going with the Masterworks, but those are moving quite a bit slower. At the rate they're being released, they won't be finished until the year 3000! I'm leaning towards the Masterworks, but I don't want to start collecting and then Marvel just gives up. Has there been any news on whether or not they plan to start putting out more Masterworks a year?

I own it^. It's really good. Especially if you have a laptop to view it on cause it's like reading the actual comic.

I'm sold on Ult Enemy already. Glad to see Spider-Woman back in the game. She definitely needs to be around more.

Issue #5 of UCSM was really good, my favorite issue of the new series so far! Excellent balance between Spidey action and Peter action, I loved the art, liked the interventions of Gwen, good character development for May, and really Bendis is trying to use Ultimatum at his advantage, and is making a good job out of it.

I love Miyazawa. I have his whole run on the Mary Jane series. I very much prefer him to LaFuente. His style, while still manga influenced, is much more proportional. We won't have to worry about balloon head spidey anymore. While I don't have an extreme dislike for LaFuente, I am VERY pleased by the addition of Miyazawa. Visually he is sort of the end result of what would happen after Stuart Immonen watched a "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex" marathon.

Here's some sketches I believe he has been doing in preparation for the Ultimate book, as hinted at by his personal website.

Sure. Issue 5 was pretty solid...just that Aunt May having to take care of so many teenagers under one roof is uh, not really believable, unless she gets money from Nick Fury or something.

Summary:

Kitty's mum enters her house and found Bobby Drake taking refugee. She's not pleased. Meanwhile on Spidey VS Mysterio, Spidey is beaten and is about to be unmasked when Shroud comes to the rescue. Fightings continue and Shroud manages to damage Mysterio's suit, unmasking him too. Mysterio is furious and escapes. Spidey has a little chat with Shroud and finds a piece of Mysterio's equipment. Spidey then hands it to Captain Quad for investigation.

Back home, Peter finds out that Aunt May has decided to take Bobby in. They are having a little Avenger Mansion there. Mysterio is angry of his failures, and then he notices blood stain (possibly Peter's) on his costumes....

I'm very glad Miyazawa will draw UCSM for 2 issues. I really enjoy his art. A lot less messy than Lafuente

Balloon-head Spidey has disappeared since issue 3, and going better.

Is it possible that perhaps Sue helps financially for Johnny? I mean, of the two, Johnny is the one that seems the more "temporary", since his main problem is trauma from the wave, deeply associated with the Baxter building. If and when he comes to terms with it, he will probably get back with his sister. Bobby on the other hand... I like to think that Kitty's mom would help a little, since her main problem is the stress that would come with him in the house, especially when she already has so much on the plate with Kitty, but that would be a big stretch...
