Conner threw his arms up into the air in a vain attempt to protect his face. He let out a startled cry, and expected his life to end.
"Hold it!" Bette cried aloud.
The molten man froze for a moment and turned towards the entry way of the control room. Bette stood there her hands placed on her hips in triumph. Conner felt like cursing; she must have been waiting for him to get cornered. If that was her plan, she should've informed him.
Bette removed a small lipstick-sized container from her belt and pointed it at the molten man's head. He looked at her as if she was a five year old with a new toy.
"Cute, and what exactly do you plan to do with that?"
Bette said nothing. Instead she threw the container at his head, and he found out what Bette's was. The container exploded on contact and a white cloud enveloped the molten man's head. He took a step back and swatted at the mist for a few minutes. When it finally disappated he smiled and let out a small chuckle.
"What was that? I know that I don't exactly smell like a fresh daisy, but throwing air freshener at me is pretty rude." he said still chuckling.
He made a few steps towards her, all the while chuckling. However as he moved closer towards Bette and farther away from Conner, his chuckle began to transform into a cough. He stopped and his smile faded. His coughs became more
violent. His whole body shook with each cough, and the cough had become so loud that even Duela and Herald had to stop and stare.
"What-what the hell...?" his voiced trailed off as his torso started to turn white. Everyone watched as the whiteness slowly moved across his torso and soon covered his legs, and then his arms.
Panic washed over him; his face now revealing every ripple of terror in his mind. Herald and Duela were behind him, Conner laid exhausted to his right, and Bette stood before him with a confident smirk. He tried to express his worry in a more verbal way, but all he could manage to do was twist his mouth into a pained expression. He collapsed on to the floor. His body now completely frozen; his body shattered from the impact of his collapse.
Duela used this oppurtunity to sucker punch Herald in the face and he fell to the floor letting go of the megaphone he had fought Duela for. She then focused her attention on the control panel. She flicked a few switches and hit a few buttons and the lights inside the warehouse were turned on.
Bette walked over to Conner and helped him up.
"Happy now?" Conner muttered.
"Not really, there weren't any cameras on."
Conner let out an exhausted sigh and Duela laughed. He didn't hear her comment about him being a stick in the mud. He was simply happy to not be dead.
