Abin Sur had been a member of The Green Lantern Corps for a vast millenia of his life. Proclaimed one of the finest officers of the field, he had put his life on the line for the fate of a hundred worlds many times, if not the entire galaxy. He was the definition of what a Green Lantern should be, in both the Corps' eyes, and even by the Guardians' standards. Yet now, he felt, he was undeserving of such praise... because for the first time in many years, Sur could not escape the overwhelming feeling of fear coursing through his veins. And worse yet, it was brought on by such a scoundrel as Despero. Sur felt ashamed to have such feelings. But not as ashamed as he was for ever putting doubt in, perhaps, what would one day make a greater Green Lantern than he ever was.
To say that Abin Sur had faith in his pupil in Hal Jordan was an understatement. Where many hopeful trainees failed, he excelled. Where The Guardians predicted he would fall to his own humanary ways, Jordan proved them indefinitely wrong. And the young man didn't even realize it, everytime he did. But Abin had taken notice a long time ago. He was more than proud, knowing it was his teaching that had put Jordan in such a high honor above his fellow trainees... though he'd never allow himself to selfishly admit himself of such greatness. He was better than that, and so was Jordan... with time, of course, given his student was all but perfect. But now, Abin felt as if he had been overzealous... perhaps even foolish to think Jordan could become the fearless example of what a Lantern should be. And it was Despero who had to make him realize this?
Abin looked out of his quarters at the Oan city beyond his window in disgust at the thought. Hal Jordan had already proved himself worthy of the ring, and it was truly an amazement The Guardians had not promoted him with a power battery already. Nothing the interstellar maniac that laughed at him, even from where he was now, could change that. Jordan would prove Despero wrong. But the question was... how long would it take before he himself proved Despero right? Time was wearing thin for Abin's time on the Corps. Whether he would become a Guardian or retire, he was uncertain... but soon, his days in active duty would cease. It was Oan law, given his time served. And the older Abin grew, the less reliable he felt he was becoming to the Corps. Perhaps what Despero said about Hal was wrong... but he wasn't sure he could dismiss what the tyrant had spoke about himself, just yet.
"*hrrk*... orps, come in. Guardians... somebody. Anyone that can hear me. Urgent message... dire circumst- *zzzz*...there isn't much time!"
Sur's thoughts were put to an immediate halt, as his ring began to relay a message transmitted all across OA, though no one realized it yet. Raising his gloved fist as the emerald weapon grew bright with life once more, Abin spoke into it, without hesitation to answer the call.
"This is Abin Sur, Lantern of 2814. What is happening?", Abin calmly asked, trying to ease the tense tone that had spoke to him.
"*zzz* -reat threat... menace to all Corps... evacuation may be required! Get *hhzzz* -elp! Assemble every Corp availible, please! Before it's too-"
"Breathe deeply and calmly, Lantern. Surely it cannot be as dire as you believe it to b-"
"You don't understand! This isn't just one *zzzz*reat! It's... Oh, no. Oh dear god in heaven, they're here!"
Abin's eyes widened.
"Who, Lantern?! Who is attacking you?!", Abin shouted into the ring, growing increasingly concerned.
"Stay back! I'll...-URK!"
*zzzz*
"-o man escapes The Manhu-"*zzzz*
Before Abin could respond, the transmission finally went dead, as the ring fell dim. It was no sooner that Abin turned around to fly out of the office in search of the surely doomed soul that had contacted him, before he, and every Lantern on the planet was addressed by a holographic message automatically placed within their rings. A Guardian's face appeared, with an unusuallly grave look upon his face as he spoke.
""Attention, Green Lanterns of OA. We have just recieved word of an immenient attack upon the planet itself. All Lanterns are to report to their required defense stations immediately. Be forewarned, the threat each of you face is stationed at a class five... a class of which has not been breached in centuries."
With those words on his mind, Abin willed his ring to life, encasing himself in a mist of green energy as he took off, out of his quarters, and into the emerald skies above, never stopping for a moment. He had never faced a class five emergency in his life... and neither had most Lanterns on the planet. But that wasn't about to stop him from disobeying his orders. OA needed him, and every one of his fellow officers right now, no matter the nature of the emergency. Flying over the training stations, the practice domes, and eventually passing the Guardians' domain at lightning speed, Abin came to a startling halt, as he reached the planet's edge. Infront of him layed a row of floating corpses... each of them a Lantern, and each of them horribly shot down, through the chest cavities. Abin's eyes wandered beyond them, as their attackers became visible in the distance. As shocked as he had been to uncover his dead comrades... nothing could have prepared him for what was coming at him now.
"Priority objective identified. Seize and destroy.", The machine leader spoke, as his, and his companions mechanical eyes lit up with an unprofound energy.

"No man escapes The Manhunters."
