So, I found this anime series called Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok on Hulu. The description said it was about Loki becoming a private detective specializing in weird s*** after Odin banishes him from Asgard, and then Odin starts sending other gods down to Earth to kill him, forcing Loki to either fight them or convince them to join him. Sounds cool, right? So I decided to check out the first episode.
Unfortunately, the show features practically every terrible anime cliché in the book. Loki's stuck as a little kid on Earth--more specifically a little boy who wears an overcoat with a giant bow on the front, which makes it look remarkably like a dress. He's played as a typical anime straight man, very dry and detached from everything. But don't worry, 'cause he's got an overly superstitious manservant who serves as his zany sidekick! Oh, and let's not forget the stereotypical ditzy girl who's seemingly in every goddamn anime series ever--doesn't matter what her age is, 'cause she always acts like a dumb tween, even if she's supposed to be a 30-something secret agent or whatever. In this case, it's an actual tween named Myra, who winds up with Loki because she too wants to be a paranormal detective. So after the first episode she basically just insinuates herself into Loki's life as his plucky sidekick. Oh, and she has pink hair and red eyes because... it's an anime.
Just... ugh. I try to keep an open mind and I get s*** like this.![]()

Oh, it's just a visual thing? That's not too bad. I thought they made him not the Corps' drill sergeant or had Hal kick his ass or something.

There are some that avoid the more annoying clichés enough that I've been able to enjoy them. I liked Death Note for a while. The Casshern anime wasn't too bad, even though I only watched a couple episodes. I figured this one might be an exception to the rule because it already started off with some of my favorite subject matter--the Norse gods. But then it s*** all over the gods. I went to read some more about it on Wikipedia and it turns out Thor shows up as a teenage boy who keeps taking odd jobs to support himself because, after joining up with Loki, he can't remember how to return to Asgard. So yeah, basically Thor gets to be comedy relief.So... you watched an Anime show and expected it to be different from other Anime programs? That's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

the visuals suck and he's pretty much every michael clarke duncan big black guy character. he's pretty good in the tie in game though.Oh, it's just a visual thing? That's not too bad. I thought they made him not the Corps' drill sergeant or had Hal kick his ass or something.
how is that ANY different? it's the same **** folks have been saying about hal for years, but now thta it's in a movie you somehow expect it to be different...when he's being overseen by geoff johns!?!oh he totally makes Hal his b****......and youll love this Corp....spoiler alert
during the big fight with the Parallax space cloud, he lures it out to the sun so that gravity can pull it in and the coup de grace is a BIG GREEN FIST....Im good with that in the books or animation...but not in the big budget film
its is a facepalm of galactic proportions

really!?!
also, fun stuff, listen to geoff johns on the featurettes "my favorite hal line is one i wrote in issue #..., it's like this one time in the book which i wrote..." dude was *********ing pretty hard
Hal didn't quite kick Kilowog's ass, but he did lay him out flat after about 30 seconds of training. Thankfully Sinestro promptly comes along to put Hal in his place.Oh, it's just a visual thing? it could have been ok, it just made some fatal errors. chief among them being blake lively and the cgi suits for hal, sinestro, and abin sur. if you had given those three prectical suits it would have saved SOOO much money and time
