It's the simple "Don't judge a book by its cover" with Chronicle. It had something that First Class was missing imo.
character development?
Yea but Green Lantern was pretty accurate to Geoff Johns' GL comics. That's LARGELY why it sucked :P
fixed. dude needs to stop getting high on his own stuff.

Giant Godzilla like monsters come through a portal in the Pacific ocean and attack costal cities around the world.

Human pilots in giant mecha (Japanese style robot suits) fight them protecting the Earth.

Idris Elaba, Charlie Hunaman and Ron Perlman star
YES. i want to see this movie...HARD

On a universal level, I think that's true, but the main issue or theme does also deal with the change in attitude and Japanese culture because of the atomic bomb. I really don't think you can relate that to an American setting, because it's something we've just not dealt with. It's like trying to adapt a story focused on the Isareli-Palestine conflict or the IRA to an America setting. Something about it just isn't going to translate.

Of course, that being said, I don't think it's necessarily as specific as those two examples. You could pull it off, but I do think that, at the very least, something would be lost in translation.

True. In fact wasn't the whole point of the Akira program to be a nuclear deterrent?

Yep I really don't think this remake is going to be as good as the original film was

Well, yeah. The only way to improve on the anime would be to clean it up a bit and maybe change the music a little. But it's pretty much perfect for what it is and holds up pretty well alreadt

Truth

The original is still one of my absolute favourite anime movies

I wonder if they could potential make a spin on the Hiroshima themes of the anime and twist it around for the American setting, in that America were the ones who unleashed the bomb in the first place. That'd be interesting to explore.
I never got the race issues with the live-action film, the inherent themes of Kaneda and Tetsuo are fairly universal, there's nothing particularly "Japanese" about either of the main characters aside from their names.

So Star Wars 3-D. You know, it's a clear money grab but I'll give Lucas one thing. When it comes to technical aspects of film, Lucas will not half ass ****. For all the the things he changed in the OT with the re-release for the 25th anniversary (Greedo shooting first) those movies were updated beautifully on a technical level.

I'll probably sneak into Episode 1 in 3D after watching Safe House just to see that Darth Maul fight.

Yeah, I'm not going to waste money on Jake Lloyd but if I hear good things I'll watch ROTS and the OT.

I'll probably go to see those as well and maybe Attack of the Clones too

Yoda fighting Christopher Lee is so fabulous I can bear to sit through the dialogue between Anakin and Padme

The terrible terrible dialogue

So if you don't watch Castle you have bad tast but tonight's episode was just amazing.

The Amazing Spider-Man is gonna make Spider-Man 2 look like Spider-Man 3.

Looks OK, a bit darker than I'd generally want a Spidey movie to be, but it suits Lizard as a villain...

To be honest I wouldn't mind seeing Vulture get used as a minor villain, like an early take down in the film to do homage to his "first villain" role in Spidey lore... Let him buid confidence on taking down the Vulture as well.

The dark tones play too much into it just being another masked vigilante story, more Bats than Spidey. And while "maybe he's just doing what the police can't" fits with Spidey as well with the media demonizing him it's not really a question I'd like to see Peter Parker raise because he tended to bottle that up to avoid casting suspicion upon himself.

All I see is Batman Begins for Spider-Man, which could be a good or bad thing imo. On one hand it's a reboot that is totally different from the Raimi films (which I love) and on the other hand I have a potato.

All I ask is that they up the wise cracks. Other than that, I don't really care. Spidey's boring. :o

It looks better, but my three biggest issues with it remain. Still don't care.

I really felt like the trailer was trying to channeling that feel a little too much, and it really comes off. My interest level is still pretty low mainly because I've lost a lot of interest in the character himself, and it's exploring a point in time I never really cared for in his history when I was into him. But, I do agree, I think it's good that it seems to be going a very different direction from the Raimi films (you'd almost have to, considering how early this reboot is coming after them).
