I my humble opinion, the best kind of fanfic is usually the ones written in worlds or universes with a ton of leeway. Take for example the Star Wars franchise. That production Bible is being re-written every other day with every new publishing of a comic, novel or short story.

Want a race of two-headed polygamists? The writer creates the planet of 2-headed Polygamists, including histories, cultures and other details.

Want a battle to have taken part during the Clone Wars to eradicate the 2-headed Polygamists? Sure, no problem. They won't be missed.

Take Warhammer 40,000 as another example: every edition of the core rule book gets changed with new fan-wank subfactions with detailed history.

Original characters get the brunt of it. No one seems to appreciate OCs doing things cooler than established characters. Then again, we feel the same way about new characters every now and then.

I tried my hand at writing original Fantasy after playing Prince of Persia Warrior Within, had a very Middle-Eastern, reverse-Conan theme about a King/Caliph who inherited his throne young whilst his kingdom was falling apart. He takes it upon himself to push out the invaders, unite the tribes and undo the mistakes of his father only to have the tribal heads pressure him into another War of Reprisal against the invaders where he eventually get tired of the killing, the responsibility of rule and losing all he cares for.

The story was met with little if no enthusiasm about a tan-looking "Arabic" sounding character and essentially I dumped it and worked on a couple of art write-ups for my artist friends.

Writing is ALWAYS a fan-******* process, even if the fan is just you. When you put pen to paper you've already made up your mind and stance towards the subject.

...okay

I agree Wraith....the fandom (a good chunk of it) is a little misogynistic, and a little prejudicial....how many brown heroes get serious page time in fanfic?? probably not all that much

Lando fanfics have him banging alien women all the time:woot:

Life, Minako-san. Life happened.

Okay, it was nothing like life.

The unofficial SHH Facebook group was suddenly revived today, followed promptly by a threat from SHH to sue the creator of the Facebook group for violating copyright laws.

Was asked to change some stuff for the SHH fan-group I made for legal reasons. Then Darthphere flexed his lawyer muscles lol.

Wow, that's...interesting. So you were threatened to be sued by the Hype for being a fan of the Hype?

And Darth has lawyer muscles?

Haha, I wasn't gonna get sued. The group would just have been shut down AND the management was very polite via private message.

But Darth is a level 5 lawyer, yes indeed.

They had no right to even ask you to change the name Spoons. The group would not have been shut down because I would have sued Mark Zuckerberg or at least taken this to the media Gloria Allred style. I would have dry humped a baseball bat for you man.

The fact is, they used false legal pretense to exert nonexistent authority on you. They violated your rights.

Darth is like Jack McCoy from Law & Order... if he looked more like Detective Lupo from Law & Order... if he was Latino.

I'm with Darth here. They don't have **** on you. I have law text books that say so. TEXT BOOKS!!! LAW ONESS!!!!!

It pisses me off for two reasons: 1. The group existed for years before Spoons upgraded today. And actually, management had asked Spoons to change the name before to Hypesters and they were ok with it. Apparently, not anymore. 2. I hate people who try to use legalese on people. "Violation of copyright" *****, have you seen our copyright laws? I have, there's no way he even has the simplest grasp of copyright law to make such a claim. Get educated.

I write fanfic because the market unjustly refuses to cater to my desire for Beetle/Booster double-mpreg.

I think I see you in a new light now Darth.
