Superman Returns' main problem was that it got the character of Superman wrong. You don't make him a deadbeat dad and then stick him with the impossible choice of continuing to be a deadbeat dad or breaking up a family. You don't make him a simpering, ineffective *****. You don't give him absolutely nothing to do except lift stuff and get shot in the eye once. SR was f***ed up right down to its core components, really. Someone along the way should've seen the finished script and been like, "S***, guys, we gotta just scrap this and start fresh."

You don't get him to stalk his ex girlfriend like a creepy creep either

Yeah, that was another wacky choice. Also, I could've done without Spacey's so-over-the-top-his-head-might-graze-the-moon Lex. I realize it was an homage to Hackman's Lex in the Donner films, but what Singer doesn't seem to realize is that to his core demographic, who grew up with a competent, savvy, intelligent Lex in the post-Crisis comics and the various animated series, Hackman's Lex sucked ass too.

And for God's sake, Singer should've saved... whatever the hell Parker Posey was doing for some other movie if he wanted to create a new villain from whole cloth. Way too much of an emphasis on this random nobody no one gave a s*** about.

The concept of a homage to Donner simply put wouldn't work because its dated. You can't try and recapture something auidences had already seen in the 70s/80s and replant it in the modern era.

Plus special effects have moved on so seeing someone get shoot in the eye of lift stuff ain't that impressive. Its like Singer never saw a Matrix movie or something

Yep I really wanted Spacey's Luthor to be more like the comic book character :csad:

Spacey was awesome in Se7en and Usual Suspects so it was such a waste his Lex wasn't as good as the villain roles he played in those movies.

there was no moment where I looked at him during the movie and went "yea...thats Superman"

you get that moment in the first film when Reeve catches the chopper in one hand and catches Lois in the other "Don't worry miss, I've got you"

THAT is ****ing Superman

I think that's pretty much inline with the amazing plane saving sequence and his "Statistically, flying is still the safest form of travel." Then the movie went to hell.

Routh got Superman fairly well until the script decided to abandon it.

Superman as an illegitimate father made me make this face

The real reason he left earth was to avoid paying child support

i like to think that the entire film is just that 5 min sequence.

indeed. i don't blame routh, i think he did a good job, i blame singer for the ****** superman on screen.

Singer is a fairy and I think the "ghey" made him **** up the script

now Im normally not one for rampant homophobia, but this is the one instance where I think it applies

:whatever:

No it does not

Singer is amazing and his sexuality has nothing to do with Superman returns being a crummy piece of ****

No

i don't think it was his sexuality, but his general ladyness that's to blame. i think singer wanted superman to be someone he could relate to, and as such we ended up with a whiny effete pansy.

Agreed

That's a stereotype

Being gay does not make a man any less manly

And Singer is not whiny he is brilliant

Superman Returns was cruddy because the script was **** the idea was dumb and the acting was terrible

Spacey phoned in a cliched lazy performance and none of the others could act
