The very first time you used the internet - do you remembah?

I broke my leg over the summer when I was nine. Thats the first time I used it. Also when I got even more addicted to TV and movies.

Does Webtv count?

Another former WebTV user?! :wow:

I got the WebTV back when it was still new and had the ability to (slowly) play MPEG files. Then it downloaded an upgrade that allowed us to use MSN Messenger, but we lost the ability to watch videos.

That was the first internet I owned, though. I'm pretty sure the first time I ever used the internet was at my cousins' house. They had AOL.

The Sega Channel? Remember that ****?

i don't remember the very first time, but I remember near the beginning one of the first things i did was use it to play chess against people in other countries.

The first time that I used the internet was back in 1995 or 1996.

I remember AOL and randomly chatting with likely predators. GOOD TIMES.

Does anybody remember their old AOL screen name(s)?

I think my first one was NinjaShoes or something like that.

Oh God, I had WebTV. Remember the little car driving toward the city that was onscreen whenever you connected? More often than not, that car took quite awhile to reach its destination.

I definitely remember the MSN upgrade. My friends from the Talk City chat rooms and I were stoked.

The first time I remember using the internet was on an actual fancy-shmancy computer at the library. The homepage was Yahoo and I searched "star wars". My mind was blown at the results that were returned and that's when I went home and decided to save my money to buy both a TV and a WebTV so I could spend all my time on the internet.

I was in high school in the mid 90's in the computer lab at school looking up video game walkthroughs...yeah I was cheating!

The library and visiting Bianca.com. I'm sure my X-wife would say that was the beginning of the end....

I remember alt.binaries newsgroups that I use to peruse.

This was during the dawn of AOL before websites really took hold.

And when websites started to pop up, I used them to plagiarize most of my liberal arts classes.

I was a late bloomer. I wasn't on the internet at all until about 2002. I did have dial-up, though.

Yeah, I still remember it because I was using AOL as my first entry into the World Wide Web. That distinctive noise that my dial-up makes when I was trying to connect to the net is something I will never forget. Of course, it took eons to load anything, and I spent more time on AOL chat rooms than anything else because the web was lacking back then. Ah, memories...

While watching Super Bowl XXXIII at my aunt's house, I met the Internet.

We've been together ever since.

I still remember the first time I browsed pr0n on the interwebs :D

Outside of that, I think my first experiences with the interwebs was when I was looking up 2Pac death conspiracy websites in Jr. High.

I signed up for a lot of pen pal services, meeting people from across the country. One of them was this girl that I talked to for over 2 years discussing everything, she really did become a good friend.

Then she was in the area and we met up. Hooked up. Dated. Broke up. Still in contact with her but we both have moved on.

I remember back in 1994 we got our first home computer. I needed to do a project about the President for school so I went to whitehouse.com. It was a porn site.

I don't really remember the first time I used the internet. But I do remember getting high speed in 9th grade. :awesome:

Looking up Lost Vikings 2 cheat codes with my dad. Took at least fifteen minutes and reconnecting two times and hearing that schreeching sound.

Oh, Talk City. I used to be all over their chat rooms. I even created a custom skinned chat interface with a bunch of pre-set /commands.

WebTV was horrible, though. There was so much you couldn't do over the internet. Every time I wanted to save an image file, I had to use a transloader to upload it to my Geocities account. It could play mp2 sound files, but not mp3. It did RealAudio, but not RealVideo. Webpages were shaped funny because it squeezed everything onto your TV screen with enlarged text and absolutely no side-scrolling. Damn near every website in those days used frames, and they never worked right on WebTV. It couldn't download anything because there was no hard drive to save it on.

The only pluses were that it was cheaper than buying a computer, and it was completely immune to viruses (no hard drive to infect).
