I bet this will be re-marketed as a Valentine's Day film.

Movie Announcer Guy: "She's going to work for that crown."

I am a big fan of Speed Racer, but the Wachowskis have not lived up to The Matrix. Not close. They were propelled to stardom on the back of originality and innovation, and they have not brought either since The Matrix.

Eh, maybe not at the same level as The Matrix, but that's a hard bill to top. I really loved their post-Matrix movies, though. I feel like Cloud Atlas has the markings of the quality of The Matrix within it, though it falls short. I'm really not out to penalize any artist(s) because they can't make something that lives up to the unlivable up to.

The Wachowskis brothers peaked with the first matrix movie and have not be able to get back to that level of filmmaking. Same with m night.

Well, the Wachowski brothers don't exist anymore, so that's impossible.

The problem with the Wachowskis isn't that they haven't made a film that lives up to The Matrix. It's that they haven't made a film that's considered "good" other than The Matrix Reloaded.

:o

That's a good point actually. They really haven't done anything good outside of Matrix. I like Bound but for only one reason lol.

There are parts of Speed Racer I enjoy, honestly Speed Racer has some really great **** in it so it's unfortunate that I dislike so much of that film, it is perfectly cast though. Their futuristic section of Cloud Atlas has some awesome visuals but again I don't like it as a whole, it's pretentious gobbly goop to me. Even their rumored Poltergeist V for Vendetta is only okay at best and I never watch it.

I loved The Matrix, Speed Racer, and Cloud Atlas. All different films, but I liked them all a good deal for what they each were. I don't even really hate the Matrix sequels. They are entertaining movies, if disappointing follow-ups. Never seen Bound.

So, for me, they aren't a one-hit wonder, even if their other hits haven't lived up to their biggest one.

Why 'Jupiter Ascending' Really Got Pushed (TRAILER)

It's been rumored but :
It's also that Warners doesn't want to gamble on two potential losses in the same quarter. Heading toward the opening weekend for Doug Liman's brainy $178-million Tom Cruise-starrer "Edge of Tomorrow," the studio was already worried about its weak tracking. Sure enough, the movie opened well behind "The Fault in Our Stars" and so far has logged only $29 million domestic and $111 million foreign.

Too late to pull the Cruise vehicle from the summer lineup, Warners opted to postpone the box office reckoning on "Jupiter Ascending" to the first quarter, when there's both more wriggle room in the marketplace and lower expectations.

Keep in mind that Village Roadshow co-produced both Edge of Tomorrow and Jupiter Ascending, they most likely have had a say in this as well.
Godzilla is a hit in that it definately will recoup it's cost however it's not the mega smash hit. Still it's a hit.
With the good results from Hobbit , the LEgo movie and 300 , it'll be able to recoup its losses.
Pushing Jupiter Ascending to Feb could mean that they are focusing on the last hobbit movie to make up for potential losses.
Also gives them more them to promote the movie differently.

Does it really look that stupid though? Star Wars probably looked stupid, lol.

Right on. Any original material that looks as visually... cool is the word?... as this does deserves a look, from me at least. Takes on a well told classic-heroic-pulpy story (John Carter, Tron, Prince of Persia... Avatar even, etc.) keep missing the mark somehow, and if there's another one that wants to take a shot at doing it well and being a good example of the genre, I say go for it.

It has antigravity boots and the guy wearing them fleeing from a dragon.
It has great colors.
It has a punchable, snooty villain of the likes you want to hate and see die.
It has Michael Giacchino music.
I love how everything looks, from ships to sets to clothes.

So yeah, this looks quite cool to me. Bummer it got moved.

I didn't know that!

My interest had increased now. Giacchino is one of the composers who can make me watch a film just because he is doing the score. The other is ofcourse the great John Williams.

Agree with all of this. I can't believe it got pushed forward so far. Ugh.

:o

V for Vendetta has a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes and generally was considered successful if not great. Well, by everyone but Alan Moore but he seems to delight in turning down gobs of money in order to scoff at Hollywood.

What's funny to me is they went from Keanu Reeves to Channing Tatum, two of the stiffest pieces of wood in Hollywood, though both of them very finely carved. Either they deludedly think these guys can act or, quite craftily, they're trying to create a protagonist so generic that the viewers can project themselves right on top of him, something I call the Bella Effect.

V for Vendetta was directed by James McTeigue.

to me it was obvious that it was ghost directed by the W siblings.

Why would they ghost direct it when their names can only add positive publicity? I'm more inclined to think they were LESS involved than indicated.

Cloud Atlas was a bloaded mess. Sure the idea of what you do in one lifetime affects another lifetime but did that message reallly need to be stretched to 3 hours? Tom hanks was great though in it but Hugo's chinese makeup was laughably bad.

Considering the amount of material in Cloud Atlas, I think it was crammed, if anything, not stretched. You could've easily made a miniseries of that book, or even a series of film based around each character. Very dense material.

I will agree with the makeup. That was one part that I didn't like. I got what they were going for, and I'm sure it helped to keep the budget in line reusing all the actors, but it didn't come off very well.

Jupiter Ascending Trailer 3

Finally, a trailer that actually focuses on the lead character. Much better than the earlier trailers. Explained the story better too.

It does, but it still looks very blah. Maybe the movie is far better than the trailers make it look, but IDK.

Visually and in terms of design its nowhere near "blah." Im not sure about the story tho. Could be a mess.
