I disagree. It took hundreds of years to get to where we are and doubt it would crumble completely in just a couple years. I'm sure groups like Ricks are more prevalent then the ones marauding.

So you would think society in a few years would go back to being what it was minus the high technology?

So does anyone else think Shane acts like a 16 year old girl when it comes to not killing zombies and surviving?

Naw Shane acts like a badass when killing zombies, and his survival skills thus far has been good.

Good point. But usually they can get by wihtout sexually assualting their love interest.

Yes. If this apocalypse lasted for a couple of years. It would have to go on a lot longer for it to have a lasting impact.

How would the whole world even be able to go about there buisness if the apocalypse ended? No jobs to go to, damaged houses, have to find food and water. It would still take years to fix up all the damage across the entire planet.

It would also be hard to rebuild if the large population of the people employed in the more advanced tech work were gone. Even if we have all our heavy machinery left, you need people to learn how to operate and maintain it. Not to mention computer systems etc.

Yeah exactly....would take decades for all that stuff to pick up again.

Talking society here. The population has just been whittled down. There's plenty of shelter, its not like zombies have flattened cities with bombs. There's still plenty of fuel to run anything technology that runs on generators. Plus the fact that people with any useful skills are not just forgetting what they knew and be useless. Will we have internet, cable, and fine dining no. But I'll guarantee people will want things back the way they were asap and work towards that. Too many of you watch too many movies and play games that glorify the post apocolyptìc world but in all reality there would be a lot more people that would want things back the way they were than not. Now if this zombie apocolypse lasted longer then were talking about a generation growing in this environment and that would be different story.

True people would work towards rebuilding society back to the way it was, but it would still take years for it all to be fixed up.

Oh I see what you're saying. Yeah, people would start rebuilding and organizing. However, the biggest factor would be who was left of the highly educated crowd? Especially Medicine. That would be one thing that could really set back the rebuilding. They'd have stocks of antiboiotics left, yes, but you need people around who know how to use them well. (Infection vs. virus--and I'm talking normal virus colds here, not zombie stuff). Also, eventually the medicine would run out. And you need people that would know how to make more.

Yeah, to get it back to how it was would take years. I was talking back to a livable existence where its no longer a free for all and you can go about your way without worry for your life from other people.

Oh well that can be set up right away. With militaries watching over and protecting people, and setting up the rules and regulations.

Right away? How? what military's would that be? They've been completely decimated like the rest of society, if not more so, considering they were on the front lines during the outbreak.

You guys seem to be underestimating the scope of the outbreak here. There's a reason the doctor at the CDC referred to this as an "extinction event." You're talking like 90% if not more of the planet all being dead.

It would likely take generations to build back up population-wise to the point where you had enough people for a sizeable enough military and our government of the scope we have now. Entire technologies would go the way of Greek fire and likely be lost for ages.

the country would likely first turn into what you have in certain countries in Africa and the Middle East, where War Lords rule tracts of land and demand some kind of servitude in return for protection from other groups and the remaining zombies, who continue to be created by the way, since there's no cure for them.

There wouldn't be a need for a sizeable military because every nation would probably be in the same predicament as you.

 He was talking about using the military as a way of enforcing laws, controlling the populace, etc. Not fighting off invasions.

That's actually a good point. As I've been saying, if 90% or heck, even 70% of the population is gone, it would be very hard to reorganize. People would, but since they would probably be so spread out they would most likely form small city states.

Honestly, look at the Greeks and the Romans. Both civilizations much more advanced in terms of technology and weaponry compared to the rest of the world, but collapsed in a realitively short amount of time.

But really, a lot of it would depend on who survives the aftermath. As I've said, it's all fine and dandy that we still have technology and medicine, but if you don't have the people that know how do adequately use these means...it could mean big trouble. One of the biggest population killers hundreds of years ago was not war, it was disease. Without people trained in how to use medicine, (or with anyone to make more antiobotics and medicines once stores run low) a large percentage of the populace would die off each year from sickness alone. That happens in third world countries today.

We would go back to mid 20th century tech. We would electricity and running water as well as basic tv channels but no cell phones, Internet, big budget movies, fast food restaurant chains, etc.
