The Walking Dead The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 13 "Alone" Discussion Thread

Yeah, I am enjoying these limited character-specific episodes. It really showcases some development as well as intimacy that we often lose track of due to dividing up screen time. Last week's episode specifically was terrific character development for Daryl and Beth. I never cared too much for Beth until last episode. Now I care for her. And it's always great to see Daryl not being stoic once in a while.

The same thing happened tonight with this episode for Bob. For the longest time, I pegged him to be an infiltrator of the group. Then when I saw that wasn't happening, I thought he'd bite the dust sooner or later. Now I care for him.

Honestly, as fun as the action and build up is in this series, my favorite part is the slow burn aspect. This show goes at a slow pace but it is still well paced and well written enough for it not to be boring. It makes it so that when s*** starts happening, it's has gravitas.

Gotta figure AMC is loving the smaller cast episodes, probably all shot in the same section of woods and train tracks, probably saving a pretty penny.

Beth was kidnapped by someone really creepy if that sneak peak on talking dead is any indication. I think she's going to prove herself a survivor.

Seeing Daryl hopeless was a good change of pace. Also I'm more invested in some of the newer characters like Bob and Sasha. The episode tonight was a bit too slow , but I'm not disappointed. It's interesting to see them in small contingents.

Considering the budget they had for the destruction of the prison, I think this is spot-on. Heck, those few feet the tank drove alone probably used an entire episode's budget in gas! :hehe:

I gotta say I'm really liking the back half of this season. The slower, character-driven pace has been a nice change and the tonal difference in more hopeful, lighter fare (for this show) is absolutely essential. You can complain that the plot has not moved forward very much, and I myself am eager to finally see Terminus already, but mixing up the elements of the show is needed.

I love the slow pace character driven episodes like this one as much as the action filled exciting ones and so I'm happy!

I enjoyed last week's and this episode a bit more just fine,Going to be sad when the season ends and have to wait months again,This season seems to have gone by so fast :(

Completely agreed!

Lauren was on Talking Dead again? I can't watch live anymore so I don't get to see that show.

Put me in the column of people enjoying the sectioned splinter group episodes as well. Im just seeing and caring for the characters in ways I probably wouldn't have otherwise- and I'm still feeling entertained.

Beth is becoming an avatar for the majority of Daryl's fan base.

They don't like her either.

I thought the scenes between her and Daryl this week were better than the entire episode last week. I also like that Beth seems to be channelling her father's sense of morality now as well. Although in a survival situation, she still appears to be fairly useless.

And I'm completely skeeved out by whatever might have happened to her at the end of the episode. I read one recap this morning that thought she jumped in the car and drove away, but it totally looked like they were set up and she was kidnapped. Which again...yikes.

It was a good episode, though. Slow as they seem, I prefer them to the 'We're going to war...but we're gonna talk about it for three episodes first" wind down from last season.

I miss Rick now, though...

There is a interesting rumor/ fan speculation going around about the paradise camp that Rick, Carl, Michone, Tyreese, Carol, and the kids went to. If any of you are playing the Telltell Walking Dead game season 2 the group in the game is meeting up with a villain named Carver who's camp sounds similar to where Rick and crew are going on the show. Also, there is a character in this upcoming episode of the show thats with Carvers group named Bonnie. A lot of people are hoping for a game/ show cross over and have Rick and crew met up with Clemintine. Its a long shot and kinda out there but it would be kinda cool!

I played it. Omg that would be awesome if they showed carver.! Even better to see clementine. good theory

I found Beth's remark ("Pretty soon I won't need you at all") to Daryl ironic b/c right after she said that her ankle got caught on what looked like a bear trap. And needed Daryl to carry her around. And then she gets kidnapped the next day. So I'm curious to see if she can handle herself in the coming episodes without Daryl, etc.

I guess the so called good people left in the world aka whoever stayed at the funeral home kidnapped Beth. Now Daryl is giving up on that notion and joining a bunch of sadists.

Last weeks episode was kind of boring to me. I liked this one so much more!! I have dvred talking dead soiI will watch it tonight. Unfortunately I get up at 420 for work can't stay up too late lol

oh my god these episodes have been so damn boring. im all for character development, but this stuff is just dull. the first half of this season wrapped up events that should of been taken care of last season...and the second half of this season is just...nothing.

All of this season has been filler. Only episode we needed to see was the mid season finale which should have been the season 3 finale...

While Beth comes across as young. Emily Kinney is 28.

Yeah, but the character is supposed to be late teens/early 20s, I believe. I think Glenn said back in S2 that Maggie was only, like, 23.

Beth told Axel she was 17 when he asked how old she was last year (right before he told Carol he thought she was a lesbian). So she's probably 18 by now.

I thought this episode was titty sprinkles personally. Then again I am a alcoholic like Bob so....

Who else thought the piggyback rides with Daryl and Beth were adorable? Also when Daryl carried her to the table? Am I supposed to be taking this romantically? Haha

At first I thought a Daryl/Beth relationship would be kinda creepy but I looked her up and she's 28.
