“The Winchesters” takes place before the birth of Sam and Dean. The series delves into how the boys parents, John (Drake Rodger) and Mary (Meg Donnelly), met each other and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.

Robbie Thompson writes and executive produces, with Jensen Ackles and Daneel Ackles also executive producing. Glen Winter directed and executive produced the pilot. The Ackles are executive producing via Chaos Machine Productions. Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios produce. Chaos Machine is under an overall deal with WBTV.

Still not sure how this will work, given that one of the leads shouldn’t even know about the supernatural until well after the two are married, but kudos to the team for finally managing to get an SPN spin-off picked up after all these years.

Maybe they somehow change the past, or a different universe... A demon messing with time or something, so the good guys need John to know about everything to stop it...

I'll check it out, but I would've preferred that Wayward Sisters spin-off.

Did I see actual creature makeup?

Isn't John supposed to be completely ignorant of hunting and the existence of monsters until after Mary is murdered?

I'll be surprised if this lasts more than 2 seasons.

This whole Spin Off confuses me and seeing the trailer didn’t help…my canon head hurts!!!

I wonder if they will just mind wipe John at the end of the series to fit with canon or I guess they will just flat out retcon the character?

Yeah, there is probably going to be a huge reset button.

This show is Jensen not wanting to let go of the franchise unfortunately.

I just had a theory on how this whole thing is going to work, and I’m almost preemptively disappointed that they probably won’t go in this direction.

It’s not the story of how John and Mary met, rife with retcons and the inevitable end point of John having all these supernatural encounters wiped from his memory.

It’s John and Mary in the afterlife, getting to do their whole love story differently this time. (Almost their version of the flash sideways on LOST).

The Dean we see isn’t Dean at any point during SPN (which already strikes me as weird to present him as being away from Sam for any extended period of time that we haven’t seen during that series, or being pre-SPN when Ackles is almost 20 years older now).

This is Dean, post-finale, looking for his parents in the afterlife.

I had no idea this was already out with 3 episodes. it's probably a bad sign that nobody has posted about the show...

I haven’t watched it yet. Is it any good? I read Tom Welling is going to be Mary’s dad (the young version of Mitch Pileggi’s character) so that kind of piqued my interest.

I did not see the notice there was now a Fantasy TV forum...this and the Comics TV were auto-ignored for some reason.

Anyways the series is not bad but it is very much "That 70's Supernatural Show" in that it's set in the 70's and very much feels like Supernatural with a different cast.

I am an episode behind but so far there has been no Tom Welling in it.

^think he said he shows up in episode 7

haven't actually started watching this one, yet... so, I have some catching up to do, before that episode comes out

got through the first 3 episodes... I'm in so far

I'm not overly invested in any of the new actors yet (not being really familiar with them) but I'm sure they'll grow on me

curious where the narration from Dean's POV, is going

okay, I'm caught up and just watched the new ep...
Welling finally showed up... I only heard he was in it, I hadn't heard who he was playing

wasn't excepting that...
