Being very into wines and such like, I thought I'd start a thread about it, Why not I guess. Anyone have any fav countries, or grapes? Recommended buys perhaps?

I personally love my Riesling, both new world and old world, althought the german riesling is the most distinctive.

Anyone else as sad as myself?

Though I don't drink, I have done wine tastings(swishing and spitting) on occasion with the girlfriend since she's a fan of it. I went to some winery in Ontario, Calif. back in July. They had some interesting tasting ones.

I read this as the "White Appreciation Thread".

I was expecting racism. I found alcohol. This, I consider a VICTORY.

Call me a commoner if you want but I don't like wine. Beer's where it's at.

I drink a lot of wine, but mostly cause it's the only alcoholic beverage I actually enjoy.

French wine is still superior to all others, I feel. I've tried Chilean and Californian and South African wines and while some can be very nice, they're just not the same as their French counterparts. Personally, that has nothing to do with snobbery, it's simply a taste thing. I've read that a lot of the difference in taste between "old" wine countries and "new" ones has to do with the composition of the soil and how long the plants have aged in it... So I suppose my preference to French wine comes from that, the sheer physical circumstances of where the grapes are grown. It explains why I also quite enjoy Italian wine, which has been around for about as long as French wine has.

I prefer red wine over white. I actually almost never drink white wine, unless it's with fish. And champagnes and other sparkling whites of course... but if I'm just drinking it, say in company, it's gotta be red. I usually drink Bordeaux, since they're mostly of excellent quality for a relatively low price. I like Cabernet Sauvignon and Médoc wines the most of all. Côtes du Rhone can be nice too, at the dinner table. Italian wines I enjoy are Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Marche Sangiovese and Bardolino...

I hate sweet tasting wines. Unless it's a dessert wine, like a good Sauterne. But sickly sweet stuff like Liebfraumilch is just awful. And most Spanish and Bulgarian wines are just swill.

Sorry, my mom gave me a sip of wine...

I almost puked it was so nasty.:(

I bet Hades will misread the title as ''The whine appreciation thread'' and think there's like a shrine dedicated to him :csad:

hmmm
Don't know I am not really into wine to be honest.
I rather have a blue wodka... tequillia

Gewurtstraminer. It's a sweet wine from (I think) the German Alsace region.

Gewurtztrammener, it's a grape, has an almost rose petally flavour. It's popular in Hungary and Germany. Also grape spelling vary from country to country, so please don't correct the spelling, lol.

Myself, i drink white wine mostly, but I love some reds, for example tarrango is an amazing grape, as it's red, but you chill it, all the intensity of red, but with the refreshing element of white.

I love some new world wines, for example the leasingham estate is a remarkable winery, their magnus riesling is one of the best.

It's more like a medium, or medium dry. It's the name of the grape, so technically can come from any country, although generally from hungary and germany

Ah, didn't know that. I don't think I've ever drank it myself...

it's not bad, although personal taste is obviously key, lol. For instance, i hate shiraz, (although a shiraz viognier blend i tried was rather pleasant, as was an old reserve shiraz) but I love merlot and some cabernet sauvignon.

what kinds of Ale? Being from england I have access to a wonderous range!

BTW, Innis and Gunn have brought out a new limited edition beer, brewed from sloavakian hops, and matured in whisky barrells(as with all their produce), but they've only made 100 casks of it! I'm gonna pick myself up a couple of bottles tomorrow! Looks mighty tasty to me!

Your girlfriend is white, isn't she?

:oldrazz:

I'm more of a fan of reds myself.

My favorite for a while now has been the Cab-Shiraz (or Syrrah) blends.

It's a very good table wine that works well with a large variety of foods.

I like every ale I've ever had. Currently my favorite is a brand called Real Ale that's brewed here in Texas. They have several varieties. My favorite is the rye ale. The brown ale is good too.

I have to say that I do like champagne. It's the only wine I like.

I've been cutting back on my red wine, but I love merlots.
South African red wines has the same effect on me as catnip to cats. *slurp* So freakin yummy.

I haven't found a white wine that I'll keep going back to,just been trying out different Chardonnay's and Pinot Grigio's.

Shiner Hefeweizen is delicious.

I personally love Riesling. I like both white and red wines but I lean toward the sweeter wines rather than dry. Did I word that correctly sweet rather than dry?
