Tis the nectar of the gods.

Don't drink as much as I used to, but I still love red wines very much. I actually used to loathe them and stuck to chardonnay's and white zinfandels, but my wife got me hooked on reds while we were still dating. I prefer merlots, shiraz/syrrahs and pinot noirs for the most part. I like cabernets quite a bit but the vast majority of them tend to have tannins that set off my allergies quite badly so I avoid them. There are some very good, relatively inexpensive wineries both domestically and abroad these days:

Domestic:
Rodney Strong - A Sonoma Valley winery that produces some exceptional white wines. Their Chardonnay is very good.

La Crema: Another Sonoma Valley winery that's actually a part of Kendall-Jackson that's run independently under their own label.

Ste. Chappelle - An Idaho based winery.

Chile':
Los Vascos - One of the finest merlots I've ever had came from this winery. Can be somewhat difficult to find as only well-stocked wine sellers or those with an insightful wine buyer tend to carry this label in limited capacity and it gets bought up quickly by those in the know.

Austraila:
Some of my favorite wines these days are coming out of Australia. They're flavorful, full-bodied and very inexpensive. The two labels my wife and I have explored quite a bit are:

Black Swan
Yellow Tail

Both are producing some interesting blends, which is sort of the trend of late. My favorite is the Shiraz/Merlot blends they're both putting out.

I am reviving this old thread because I love wine. I mostly buy wines from the Bordeaux region as I grew up with those wine on my table. I have quite a few Chateaux Margaux and Chateau Mouton Rothschild.

One thing is I have the seen the quality of Argentinean wines increase and there is one I would recommend to all which is Cheval des Andes. It is as good as a "grand cru classé" and about 1/4 of the price. Plus it can be drunk relatively young.

By the way, it would be nice if someone corrected the spelling in the title.

If you like the Argentinean wines, Ahura, you should definitely check into the Chilean wines for the same reasons. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.

For a very inexpensive wine, Yellow Tail out of Australia is turning out some very good wines that are suitable for everyday sort of consumption, also.
