The Wolverine The Wolverine Unleashed Extended Edition Blu-Ray: December 3

I wish we could get some confirmation as I don't need the 3D copy for extra money if I can get the extended cut on the regular Blu Ray.
I'd say buy your copy in stores, and read the regular bluray carefully to make sure! :p

Alright...got the answer from the man himself, Magnold. I tweeted him this afternoon:

His answer: Extended cut is unique to the 3D Combo pack ONLY.

Whatever this means..

Mangold ‏@mang0ld NOTE TO ALL -- You can watch the extended cut of THE WOLVERINE on regular televisions. It is in 2D on disk. But it is not on VHS.

Settle down. It sounds like a joke. Obviously there's a bit of confusion over what version is which, and it sounds like he's getting a lot of questions about it.

Yea, I'd like to get some sort of confirmation as well. I've already pre-ordered that non-3D Blu-Ray, but if that doesn't include the extended cut I want to cancel it!

I know he's joking, I dig his personality. I just have no blu-ray player, it sucks. I don't want to have to buy one to watch the extended cut. I guess I'll have to. Maybe I'll get an Xbox One or something.

Spare yourself from the spybox my fellow human movie watcher! PS3 or a cheap blu-ray player. That's it. You could probably get a decent home theatre system with the price of a new Xbox1/PS4 console. I paid 350 euros for mine (samsung) and that was a year ago. No, over a year I think. Glad I got it.

I feel they could have been a little clearer as to how the extended version is available. Almost seems like they are trying to confuse people into getting a version they dont need or want to get it.

Why the extended version cant be on DVD is a little strange to me.

I've been confused about which version comes with the extended edition, so I emailed amazon and they told me the regular blu-Ray comes with it. Unfortunately, I don't think they know what they're talking about but thats what they said. Also, I checked on iTunes and it says the extended cut is $19.99 and theatrical cut $14.99 so for the people who don't want to get 3d have the digital option too. Unfortunately my iPads full so I can't get it that way so I guess I'm back to square one.

Amazon updated their product pages.

Here's what the The Wolverine - Unleashed Extended Edition (Blu-ray 3D / Blu-Ray / DVD / DigitalHD + Digital Copy) (2013) comes with:

UNLEASHED EXTENDED EDITION
4- Disc 3D BD/BD/DVD & DC COMBO

Disc 1: Blu-ray
Theatrical Film
Doc: Path of the Ronin
Alt Ending
DOFP Set Tour
Second Screen
Audio Commentary
Marvel Infinite Comic
Disc 2: DVD & Digital Copy (Film Only)
Disc 3: Blu-ray
Extended Cut Film
Audio Commentary
Disc 4 : Blu-ray 3D
3D Theatrical Film

The Wolverine (Blu-ray / DVD + DigitalHD) (2013)
(the box art says it comes with the extended cut but not the description)

BD COMBO
2-Disc BD/DVD & DC COMBO

Disc 1: Blu-ray
Theatrical Film

The good news is both the unleashed theatrical and extended cuts come with commentary according to this.

Is it just me or the special features listed for The Wolverine are not that many compare to the special features that we got from the DVDs/Blu-rays of the original trilogy. Surely, they could include trailers and a gallery section.

Bryan Singer seems to love all the documentaries and stuff. Have you seen X-Men 1.5's stuff? There's great things to watch.

I'm curious about this alternate ending...

I'm curious about this alternate ending...

Yeah I do wonder just how much of the ending though, is it just a quick bit after the final fight or is it a significant change to the third act.

Im guessing its not a massive variation but considering some peoples view on the ending it will be interesting to see what else it could have been.

It could be related to the plane scene at the end. And we will see Yukio/Wolverine go from some place.

I expect something really minor, like an alternate conversation between Logan and Mariko.

Does anybody know if the new X-men adamantium collection will have the extended edition version of The Wolverine on it? Even though I own all the X films (except Wolverine Origins because it never happened) I wouldn't mind picking up this set but it hinges on which version of The Wolverine it has. If not I'll probably pass and just get the 3D blu ray version.

So, according to this new iTunes book for the movie, we finally know what this was all about:

Going by the storyboards, it looks like Mariko ran into the street during the fight in front of a car. Logan ran out and picked her up...and then they both got hit by the car. It seemed like he got the worst of that. Then the Yakuza turned up, and he just picked her back up and ran.

There's also a pre-viz video that shows Logan fighting the bear before he had to kill it. It looks like he caught Yukio watching him fighting the as well. When he turned back, she was gone again.

No idea if any of that is part of the extended cut, but it's interesting stuff. Still reading through the book.
