BvS The Wonder Woman Costume Thread - Part 8

Dont hate the suit, hate the artist. Many have drawn the classic costume tastefully.

And people who think that those who like the classic costume think it's empowering because it's revealing are being ridiculous and don't get the argument at all. They have simply latched onto that and run with it as some lame defense against it.

About the second thing, I absolute agree. The classic costume can look good and even my favorite Wonder Woman image has her in it, but they are like pictures, snapshots that are made so it can look good. In a moving story where her costume is her clothes it's a different situation.

Which brings me to the first part. No, I don't blame the artist, I blame the costume. There are a lot of images, this one included, that are not bad in themselves, they are bad because of what she is wearing. This one being the best example:

Whichever of those two I'd be really happy.

Honestly, there's no reason for Wonder Woman to show off that much skin in the movie. We all know what the reason would be if she were to.

It's like Mystique being naked in the X-Men films because it's a character choice. :whatever:

The thing is, people keep posting that ridiculous classic look but what we need to understand is that Zack Snyder will make sure the suit will be tailored specifically for Gal Gadot. To elaborate Gal isn't big busted so they're not going to cut something that accentuates her bust, similarly she is very skinny so they're not going to show that much of her skin.

Then there's the fact that the suit has to be consistent with the Sci-Fi world 'Man of Steel' established. Not everything that works on the page can translate to film and that outfit would look flaming ridiculous in real live action.

Look at Anne Hathaway's Catwoman suit for example. It fit perfectly with the Nolan universe and was practical whilst being recognisable as a catwoman outfit.

Which means the WW tiara has to go. I'm sorry, this isn't a graphic novel; it's a motion picture - and one that prides itself on being grounded in reality to boot.

In Mystique's case, it works because it would just be too surreal for her to be wearing normal clothes. They did that in FIRST CLASS and it took me out of the movie. As for the 'character choice' reasoning, I suppose it makes sense because it's her way of showing that she is proud of her mutant appearance - and self acceptance is very much apart of her character arc in the X Men films.

The third one is pretty much the new52 version. And also the best one, by a fair margin.

This is Zack Snyder, look at the mans track record. The men of 300, Silk Spectre, the girls from Sucker Punch…heck we even got full on blue dong in Watchmen! He really doesn't give a rats ass if people find an outfit too revealing.

Well this breaks down to personal opinion and I and many others disagree with yours.

Yet she still had stiletto heals that were knives…sooo practical.

BLASPHEMY!:cmad:

I get we all want something different. I respect your opinions I just think the classic costume done tastefully makes perfect sense and can easily work in live action…it did for television. It is also what I think the general public would expect her to be seen in. Though unlike the die hard classic suit haters I am open to other variations of the costume be it pants or skirt.

Man, this is getting creepy.

You guys are deliberately looking for those pictures and posting them and its rather sad, that's what I find creepy. I could scour the internet and find plenty of examples of male comic book characters with ripped shirts, shirtless and over exaggerated bulges in skintight outfits. It's part of the medium.

Nah, if she used proper clothes, the image I posted would be ordinary.

And to find Wonder Woman looking bad because of her costume is the common thing, you don't need to scour anything.

She's wearing a skirt in that picture you posted.:o
It's a deliberate angle drawn by the artist. You were probably too busy staring up it too notice.

Yes, this is the costume she is wearing:

That's why I say stuff like that doesn't solve anything.

Also, this "it's the artist fault" is not true. When you have Diana's classic costume, almost every angle is "exploitative". The picture I posted some time ago is probably one of the best examples of this. Diana is just being arrested, nothing we have not seen a thousand times is very similar ways, yet because of how she dresses it looks utterly ridiculous.

No it isn't. You do talk yourself into some very silly viewpoints.

Yes it is the artists fault. The legs are cut ridiculously high and the top is cut ridiculously low in that picture. Common sense would tell anyone looking at the picture that.

Let's put the topic on a more comfortable way...
I wouldn't be surprised if we get smth like this.

That is great. Perhaps the best pants look I've seen.

I think it'll be closer to this Chiang design. Not sure about the arm bracer though.

The issue isn't about "too revealing". That was not the point I was making with my post. The issue is about making the actress look good. Obviously, Zack Snyder is going to hide the actress' flaws and accentuate the best aspects. In Gal Gadot's case, she simply does not have the WW frame. Making her wear a flesh revealing outfit will expose that and make it difficult to take seriously. Therefore, they're going to avoid cutting anything that draws attention to the physique itself.

You may very well but thankfully the studios agree with me otherwise Hawkeye would look like a gay stripper right now.

Yet she still had stiletto heals that were knives…sooo practical.

Um, that's very practical because it served a purpose and enabled her to catch her enemies off-guard. She wore night goggles that when flipped up made her look like a cat hence the name "the cat". That's what I mean by 'practical' while maintaining a look that's recognisable.

Re BIB: You mean in the 70s? We're in 2014 now and, in fact, when the makers of a revamped 2011 WW show decided to cut a costume reminiscent of the classic look we all know how that turned out: http://screenrant.com/wonder-woman-tv-series-canceled-mcrid-115097/

Comic book fans need to understand they are the 1% of movie going audiences. I get that it's hard to imagine any different when you've been looking at these costumes for over 70 years on paper but the vast majority of the masses would find the classic outfit ridiculous.
