The Wrestling Thread Can Wrestle MICHAEL COLE If It Wants To!! - Part 106

You can see it even now. To this very day Flair is jealous of Roma. Roma has everything Flair doesn't! Respect! Money! Women! Talent! CHAMPIONSHIPS!

He's being kept out of the WWE Hall of Fame because Flair is in Haitch's nose ear about it!

It's clear that our next thread title should be dedicated to Paul Roma and do getting him inducted into the HOF, at least until someone says something funny on Raw and then we'll drop him like the Horseman did.

Confession: I enjoyed Roma as half of the Young Stallions. He lost me after they split, though...didn't care for him with Herc in Power & Glory. And he was dead to me when WCW had the audacity to insert him into the Horsemen.

He was a guy that I honestly never gave a lot of thought to in WWE and then was shocked to see him pop up as the new member of the Horseman, sadly for him it was another case of Vince knowing best and WCW picking up a guy and trying to make him more than he was.

Got this about the Ohno story from the Wrestlezone, it's by Rob Naylor, yes the dude who used to be one of the 4 none-*******s on DVDR. Apparently he went on to commentate for Dragon Gate US and work with Dusty in NXT creative.

"Wrestling Inc" story is false. Just saying.

"Dodging gym time" made me laugh - as everyone in the system trains with the new strength coach with no exceptions. Couldn't "dogde the gym" if he wanted to.

It's true he needs to get in better cosmetic shape - hopefully he starts putting it together.

Thanks for that update...glad it has nothing to do with Ohno being stubborn.

P.S. Surprised you aren't interested in the Ruthless Agresssion nostalgia trip that some of us have been on today.

All this talk about Ruthless Aggression and I missed that entire era.

I stopped watching just as Ruthless Aggression was starting, and I didn't start watching again until 2008.

When I would check in from time to time, I know there were some moments and angles that were just... really disturbing, and that's probably a big reason that kept me away. It seemed like everytime I tuned in, I was tuning into Rapey Kurt Angle or terrorist Muhammed Hassan and those just weren't what I wanted to see.

It also hurt that all the guys I wanted to see were over on Raw, and I didn't have cable at the time to get USA to see Raw.

Aren't you a fan of the Attitude Era? Ruthless Aggression was much less shocking than that.

Yes, but it was a domino effect.

Things like Rikishi's "I did it for my people" and the Invasion angle starting hurting my interest in the product, then when the roster split happened, all the guys I wanted to see were on Raw, and I didn't have cable, so my interest just eventually faded away. And then like I said, when I would check back in, it would be during things like Rape Kurt and Terrorist Hassan, and I thought those were some totally tasteless angles.

I still had an interest in the product, and like I said, I'd tune into Smackdown from time to time, but I never really saw anything that captured my attention to keep me around.

I can't believe you missed racist Triple H or better yet...Katie Vick, the greatest moment from the Ruthless Aggression era.

:o

I almost dreaded watching RAW sometimes especially after a PPV.The show would almost always start with Triple H giving some long winded speech about overcoming the odds.I don't know who is/was worse him or Cena. Then there was Jeff Jarrett's reign of terror in TNA.Looking back there are some title reigns I just cannot stand.

That was back when Burials was clean shaven. He truly looked like a legit scumbag.

Maybe this is part of the reason I never developed a hatred of Triple H like everyone else. My opinion of him is based on 1999-2002, and then 2008-now Triple H.

I missed that entire period of time where, apparently his was burying everyone left and right in horribly tasteless angles.

You should take a trip to YouTube and get acquainted. Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean he should be excused for what he's done. He deserves less credit than you are giving him.

:argh:

On the bright side, at least you didn't miss out on Hunter Hearst Voorhees. Truly a highlight of his decorated career.

I feel like I'm missing a reference here.

In other news, I saw this on another forum I check out. Thought it was funny lol. Lost it at "I'm Mr. Heat, I'm Mr. 101" lol

Smackdown was great during the Ruthless Aggression era. Lesnar, Taker, Cena, and the Smackdown six made that show highly enjoyable.

Jeff Jarrett was a necessary evil. While he had the title too long too many times, when somebody beat him like AJ Styles or Christian, it meant something.

I hated JBL winning the WWE Championship (unfortunately, I missed out on some great promos of his during the reign), but compared to Helmsley's reign of doom, it was a breath of fresh air.

Cena has the same problem of being a belt hogger, but at least he didn't go out of his way to bury his opponents left and right. Cena is annoying, but Hunter was flat out poison.

Man that's a shame you missed one of the best WWE title matches period....That was for free: http://youtu.be/A4q_aFUi1w4

You should have been watching Smackdown from 2003 to early 2005 atleast so you could have Shawn Michaels/Kurt Angle's classic feud before he went to Raw and Orton/Undertaker's feud that caused him to subsequently go to Smackdown for a while along with Lesnar's feuds with Angle, Guerrero, Benoit, and Undertaker then Angle's feud with Eddie Guerrero etc etc but not in that order.

I missed the RA era too but I was well aware of the wrath of Triple H.

I wasn't a fan of the roster split to begin with and once Austin and Rock were a memory, I slowly stopped tuning in. It wasn't until the past 3-4yrs I started coming back. The same thing happened to me after Hogan and the Warrior left in 92-93. I stopped watching until about 96.

Stuff like this is why I wish older seasons of Raw and Smackdown would be put on Hulu. So when people miss out on eras they can go back and watch what they missed out on.

I remember some of the stuff during that era, notable Eddie Guerrero winning the championship (for some reason I was never an Eddie G fan, despite the fact that he checks what are typically my boxes, I never got into him, and I think tuning in to see he was champion was one of the other things that kept me away), JBL's reign, and some Rey Mysterio stuff. But obviously, I missed out on a lot more, like most of Brock Lesnar's stuff, most of the stuff you mentioned, most of Kurt Angle's stuff, etc.

I did see some of Orton's Legend Killer stuff from SmackDown, not a lot, but a little bit of it.

Yeah man, back in that era, Smackdown was definitely the A-show despite the fact that RAW was supposed to be.

Cena is a chore to have as champion all the time, but JBL as champion was awesome. He was a fantastic and necessary heel at that time. Hey, he was a wrestling god.

:o

One Smackdown moment from that era that I still think is hilarious is when Heyman was put in a Sharpshooter while John Cena fed him a soap bar.

I also liked Kurt Angle and Undertaker's Smackdown feud during Ruthless Aggression as well.

That Era had it's set of Screwups and misses but a lot of great programs happened during it.

I remember marking out for this big time when I was little

 hopefully he was taken off NXT to prep for his main roster debut.

Well I am a bit older so things need to go back for me to get nostalgic lol. There was some great wrestling in that period though, Angle, Benoit and Brock really tore it up.

He was worse post-2008 though, I mean his title reigns back then seemed never ending but he did make Batista and put over Benoit and Cena, which is a lot more than he has done for anyone in the last 5 years.

I feel like I'm missing a reference here.

The Mr. Heat part actually made me laugh out loud. :woot:

Somebody in this thread actually made that reference when it happened. I thought it was hilarious.

Ah I recall the night (not so) fondly that I made that comment. :D
