The Wrestling Thread Worked Its Butt Off To Get Where It Is Today. - - Part 74

Traditionally the champ comes out second. There's been a few spots when he doesn't like Hogan/Sting in 97 or SCSA/HBK at WM14.

I'm never a fan of a Dusty finish, but at least Punk leaves with the belt.

Ok ppv...Bryan and Kane continue to be gold, and I loved Bradshaw's color commentary.

If there was any other reason to watch the PPV, it was to listen to JBL.

Those who watched wrestling years ago know that it used to always be the challenger coming out first and the champ coming out second. However I'd say the past decade it hasn't been quite as prevalent in the wwe. It's a shame because it brings more prestige when the champ comes out second. Yokozuna always always came out second. Same for hbk, Bret, hogan, Austin. I think it builds the excitement more as well.

*sigh*

I get that the champion typically comes out 2nd, but it isn't rare for the champion to come out first.

Proposed new rule regarding the two swerve endings we had. Please check the predictions thread.

that is the rock vs triple h which is still relatively new. again, back in the day the champion would always come out second and in my opinion it is more effective for the champion to come out second. to me wrestling was always supposed to be like an entertainment version of boxing and boxing always had the champ come out second. it brings legitimacy to the champion when he comes out second. it's the same problem as the champion not main eventing the ppv. i remember it being a big deal when hbk and undertaker main evented with their hell in a cell match. the challenger should be waiting in the ring and looking at what he could become..........possibly the next champion. just doesn't really makes sense to me for the challenger to come down second. again, the clip you posted is relatively new, and sometimes new isn't always better and vice a versa, but in this case the champ coming down second is more effective for the championship to be legitimate.

It used to be rare but that tradition is long gone. Hopefully there will be more focus on the title now that we're getting longer reigns.

Honestly, I don't want to see Punk win title matches through cheating. It would really be a slap to what he's done.

I'd like to see that. I was never a fan of the heel turn (as just about everybody). At this point I just hope he holds on to the title for as long as possible. Otherwise have him win it back at Wrestlemania.

It used to be practically never but the previous poster said how there were always instances where the challenger comes out second which isn't really true. Only really started the last decade or so. The original poster who said "remember when the champ comes out second" was indeed correct and I miss those times. Ah well, not a big deal inthe scheme of things but just saying.

I do two. I think what's even worse is when the Championship match opens the show.

I missed the ppv(had my birthday dinner)But right now I just want to know 3 things..

#1-Did Punk retain and did he introduce a new title or teased one??

#2-How did Sin Cara do in the match and especially against Mysterio?

#3-Did Kane D Bry win the tag titles?IF so then did they celebrate or anything?

Punk initially lost from a top rope German suplex into a bridging pin, but then the match was a draw because Cena's shoulders were down as well. No new title was introduced or teased.
#2-How did Sin Cara do in the match and especially against Mysterio?
His role was rather limited, but he did pretty well.
#3-Did Kane D Bry win the tag titles?IF so then did they celebrate or anything?
They did win after AmDrag knocked Kane off the top rope. They declared "I am the Tag Team Champions!" back and forth. They'll probably recap it, but it was funny.

Whoever chose the title for this new thread needs to get their ankle broken by a masked assailant! :argh:

Cena hit a german suplex. I gotta see this.

I don't have the time to reread the thread, and I'm not in the mood to hit any other sites. Can someone give me a quick rundown of the PPV so I'm prepared for my show Tuesday?

Pretty sure this is wrong. I am sure Hogan came out second at both WM5 and WM7. He was the challenger in both matches.

1) Yes, he retained. No, he didn't introduce anything.

2) Don't know, skipped it.

3) Yes, they won.

Review:

I was thrilled JBL returned. His commentary made the PPV 10x better. And that's amazing considering the last time he did was almost 5 years ago!

Surprise, surprise. Sin Cara is involved and the Fatal Four Way match is botchy. However, most of this will be fixed by changing camera angles for the home release version. Despite Sin and Rey taking turns kicking each other, it felt like I was watching a tag team match. Cool to see Miz overcome the odds.

Glad to see Kane and Daniel win. They were so over with the crowd that it would've been a crime to not have them win the belts. The "Hug It Out" chants had me rolling in stitches. The fact that two former world champions hold tag team gold is pretty cool. I'm expecting a "I'm the tag team champion" shirt to come out soon.

I don't know too much about Antonio Caesaro, but from what I saw, he's a methodical wrestler so its only fitting he uses Dean Malenko's theme. It was bittersweet to see Zack on PPV again only to lose, but I loved the fact he had to win a match to get a title shot. It gives the midcard belts credibility.

Somebody mentioned that Dolph tends to bring out the best in Randy and I agree with that assessment. Orton Vs. Ziggler was a crisp match with an awesome finish and even though The Legend Killer won, it was bliss to hear The Showoff outcheer him! I forgot how tall RKO was though, he made Curt Michaels look tiny!

Layla's reign of doom is finally over. It sucks Kaitlyn got replaced, but Eve deserved to be Divas Champion (I'm pretty sure it was a reward for winning Stars Earn Stripes) again and seeing her win the match clean was a shocker.

Does anybody else feel bad for Alberto Del Rio? I haven't seen a one sided feud like this since HHH took on some younger talent. ADR gave the fight of his life. What's really weird is this was their 3rd PPV match and still there was no stipulation. Its also nice that Dolph didn't cash in as reported.

And to finally top it off, Punk left NOC with the WWE Championship in hand much to my delight while the rest of my sports bar was pissed off. It was a great match, but it went on a little too long with all the reversals, counters, and false finishes which wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't seen that in Sheamus Vs. Del Rio right before this so I was burnt out from that. I didn't mind the Dusty finish (German suplex off the top rope was sick) because they book themselves into a corner with not wanting Punk to lose the belt yet, not wanting Cena to lose in his hometown plus you had the cancer support involved as that would've been in poor taste. It only makes sense to try to settle things in Hell In A Cell although it was odd that Heyman would be there and not get involved in the match. Quite the red herring.

So overall, good show. Almost as good as SummerSlam.

These are two things I thought I'd never read in this thread.
Yup.

He was going for the AA when Punk held onto the ropes, so Cena tossed him over the top. It looks like Punk was supposed to land on the apron, IMO, but he slipped and dropped to the floor. Cena shrugged his shoulders, hit the ropes and did a pretty nice suicide dive.

I thought he was going for a baseball slide.
