Iron Man 2 Theroux to Script Iron Man Sequel

I'm pretty sure David Self is writing Cap... I thought Penn's agent said he wasn't involved in Cap.

If that's true than it's the best news I've heard all day. Now I can focus all my dread toward Avengers.

Theroux is an interesting choice...Tropic Thunder does look like it has a good mix of comedy and action from what i can tell from the trailer...but given only one script to his name, its a surprise. But oh well, i look forward to see how he handles the "Demon in a Bottle" storyline and the Mandarin.

I'm not familiar with him. But his pitch must've resonated with Favreau and Downey.

Umm, being a Marvel movie whoever doing the script should have been helped by Marvel Iron Man writers like Warren Ellis, Matt Fraction, and Brian Michael Bendis.

Marvel Iron Man writers like Warren Ellis,

Alright.

Matt Fraction,

Okay.

and Brian Michael Bendis.

Now you've lost me. No offense, but I can't remember a single great thing Bendis did with Iron Man. Millar has more of a place as a consultant, and he wrote one of the most polarizing Iron Man interpretations I've read.

BMB wrote Mighty Avengers, Illuminati and the current Secret Invasion who has Iron Man almost front and center. I don't want to give Millar the spot; Millar wrote a fascist Iron Man who gets taken down easily by street heroes (Captain America, Spider-Man). BMB Iron Man worked well in New Avengers before Civil War and is the mind behind Illuminati.

Good choice, as he already has an experience in writing action films with comedy elements

first of all, Bendis sucks. At everything. Ultimate Spider-Man is an outrage,

Second of all, Millar sucks (at Iron Man). Marvel Civil war was full of plot holes and out of character moments, too many characters and not enough momentum.
He turned Iron man into a *****e, he made Captain America (a public hero) lead the team the HE logically should be opposing alongside Iron man, and he had Spider-man (the logical choice to lead caps side as he has the most to loose) uncharacteristically reveal his identidy after 43 years of risking his life to protect it. And the ending was so anti-climactic it pissed me off that I even bothered.

The only decent MM Marvel works are Wolverine: Enemy Of The State. Thats it.

^ all that being said, Marvel Civil War was the comic book equivelant to a Zack Penn movie.

Why is Zak Penn "The Devil"?

...go easy now...

I think "Satan" is a gross exaggeration. Still, I've yet to see why Marvel Studios puts faith in him. X-Men 3 was a disappointment, Elektra was horrible, and the only reason The Incredible Hulk was okay was because it's hard to do worse than Ang Lee's take. There's no rational reason to have him write an Avengers screenplay.

Didn't Norton co-write/ghost-write TIH?

Exactly. It's no coincidence that all the top Marvel movies (like Spider-man 1-2, X-Men 1-2, Iron Man, etc) didn't have Zack as their writers. Marvel should hire a real writer instead of letting Zack ruin their movies.

So this steroid-taking, coke-sniffing, interesting buddy of Pat Bateman is writing Iron Man II?

Sign me up.

Well IM2 needs A LOT of comedy so getting a guy who worked on Tropic Thunder is a start. As for Avengers... well if you want a 100% cheese fest like Transformers then that's what we are going to get. But if the action is good and the story is decent that's all that matters... hopefully the stars can elevate the material despite having to work off a Zack Penn screenplay.

I'm convinced Norton's involvement was the only reason TIH's screenplay wasn't a complete disaster. I predict (hope) Avengers will have some huge rewrites by other writers and/or the director.

Frankly, I hope Penn's out of the running by the time The Avengers rolls around.

Now having seen Tropic Thunder, I think this is a decent choice.

I will say that TROPIC THUNDER was awesome, great dialogue, and the action scenes are unbelievable. But Iron Man 2 will need to be a little more serious with less comedy.

It can't be all laughs and giggles though.

Robert Downey Jr. is freaking amazing in Tropic Thunder. He really is like the new Johnny Depp right now. He's the best part about the movie.
