Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Theta Protocol and the AoS / AoU connection (spoilers)

So now that Fury and SHIELD are back in business, where does this leave Coulson and Gonzales? Does Coulson go back to being Fury's 3rd in command?

Fury works for Coulson now. In AoU, Fury said "I'm director of nothing". So how does he end up captain of a boat, if not under Coulson's direction?

It makes me wonder if Fury isn't entirely telling the truth (granted, it sorta undermines the points made in the movie if he isn't, but it would fit things pretty well).

Have you been watching the show? Coulson has no authority whatsoever right now, May has more authority than him. Fury has rebuilt SHIELD behind the scenes, as is shown at the end of the movie with the New Avengers HQ.

I feel like Coulson's "Fury will come by and take it back" line (not an exact quote) indicates he's really in charge.

Fury also mentioned having a couple of friends helping him get Helicarrier 64 back in his hands: One is probably Hill, and the other might be Coulson.

love the confidence of that and wouldn't mind seeing it but think coulson as much as said to gonzales in relation to the toolbox that furry is still in charge when he said furry will be taking it back not coulson.

So would the avengers know that Coulson is alive.

Probably not. I didn't even get the impression Stark knew Fury was alive until he went into that shed.

Weren't Coulson and co. fugitives of the law at one point? That would probably have gotten the Avengers' radar.
I would think they'd know he's alive by now. Remember the 1st episode and the business at Union Station? How many cell phone cameras caught it? How many people posted it on the internet? And no Avenger saw it?
As for who's in charge, Coulson is still taking orders from Fury. Always has, always will.

According to Whedon he's dead as far as the movies are concerned, so it no longer matters.

Well, Whedon is done with the movies now so he no longer matters.

Tonight's episode did not explicitly show that Fury works for Coulson. However, Coulson continues to be Director of Shield and he was shown to possess the hovercarrier that Fury uses in AoU. I'll headcanon that Fury is working for Coulson. :yay:

I think the helicarrier crew works for Coulson at least he recruited them after the collapse of shield

Coulson is running SHIELD with occasional advisement/guidance from Fury.

No, he didn't. The crew of the Helicarrier was a just a group of temporarily assembled former S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

I think that Fury only borrowed the Helicarrier from Coulson.

They don't even have to be. Could be still active S.H.I.E.L.D. agents working for Coulson/Gonzales. In the scene at the beginning with the Board, it _does_ sound as if they were directly involved in the evacuation of Sokovia.

I suspect that Fury has more or less retired from the spy game; figuring it was better that than being "retired" by someone else.

Phil's dead to JOSS not Marvel. Not sure what the Russo Brothers think about Phil and his group tho

When the footage of Sokovia and the helicarrier were on the screen Phil said "there you go, my cards are on the table." Revealing that he hooked Fury up with the helicarrier. I'd assume the SHIELD agents aboard were part of Phil's team as well, as they showed that alternate base that one of the Patton Oswalts was in during the opening flashback.

Man, I'm going to have to rewatch both AoU and Aos related shows repeatedly lol this weekend. :D

Yeah I'm not sure whose team was manning the Helicarrier, but if Phil was doing all that behind everyone's back, it was more than likely his team or WAS Fury's at one point

I was pretty disappointed in the Theta Protocol reveal. I suppose I just let my hopes get to high for an Avengers Acadamy.

I LOVE headcanon!
It's my favorite kind of canon
Nothing beats it.
