Obviously anyone who's been here for any length of time is welcome to chime in, but I'm specifically interested in hearing what the oldbies have to say [4+years].

Yeah, yeah, I know it's just the internet, but let's face it--checking this site every day for an extended period of time, interacting with people like we do, obviously will have some change on something with us. What have you notice changed about you? I'll post my answers after a few responses.

Changed about our posting style or about how we feel about the place in general?

I've started to understand what goes into keeping up a place like this, and not just being an anonymous individual that makes a few comments and leaves. I skirt the line between being somewhat of an esteemed member and a goofball at times.

Any of those work, too, but I mean, like, how it's affected your everyday life.

For example, I know I'm a bit of an extreme case, but thanks to this site, I wanted to learn more about graphic design and web design, which I now know more about than I ever thought I would.

My changes primarily revolve around two things.

1.) Aunt Petunia

That incident taught me alot and now there is even a section dedicated to it in the play I wrote. I haven't performed it yet, but it's in the works. I should be performing it within the year.

2.) Politics.

Being a Liberal in Texas has always been an uphill battle. I love to argue as much as the next guy but being down here can wear you down. At least when I argue on The Hype, I know that I'll have some backup.

That's nice.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

Looking back on a bunch of my older posts, I was a total goober. I think the reason I've slowed my posting down is that I'm afraid I'll do or say something embarassing. I mean, I can't believe I created 'The Hype Boat.' :wow:

I've learned that this board really is almost like a community. We share with each other personal trajedies and triumphs, we cry at sad stories and laugh at ridiculous ones, etc. It's like visiting a secret club.

Through the many changes my life has made, the SHH has been the one constant.

I avoid voicing my opinion on politics and religion. There was a few times back in 2004 I said some things that I believe in and of course I was thrashed for it. So, I just avoid those topics and stick to fun ones. it's just easier. No sense in arguing with the interweb scholars who know it all.

This place hasn't changed me in any way, but it's kind of nice that when I disappear for long periods of time and come back, there's at least one person that'll remember me and welcome me back. Really gives this place a sense of community.

Though you bastards have never made me a birthday thread in the 6 years I've been here. :o

in regards to internet life, i've learned how to take none of it seriously.

in regards to real life....i can debate the s**t out of anyone, ha ha.

as for feelings on this place years later: SHH! has changed A LOT over the years. its far more conservative and strict now and the people coming here arent nearly as cool and fun, but whatevs....

A lot has changed for me in general, I signed up here as a Junior and high school and just this past pay I received my bachelors degree. It'd be weird if I didn't check this website any more because not just the posting aspect of it, but its a great source of movie news. Rather than check numerous websites, I can just check the forums here and the news is bound to show up sooner than later

I've now got some good friends all over the world.

I have definitely learned a lot about the people here, especially in the DC boards, and even lately started learning about them even moreso cause of the facebook group. I realize this place is a helluva lot more fun than reddit or digg, or that Russian tremors forum I posted on at the turn of the millennium.

As to how I have changed. Let's see, I am no longer a Missouri sophomore in high school trying desperately to get girls to like me. Now I am in graduate school in Chicago with a serious girlfriend and a neat apartment. I don't use dial-up anymore. That makes it easier. I am definitly was more conservative than I was when I first came here. I'm not obsessed with superhero movies like I once was. Dark Knight really burnt me out on that.

I guess, to be brief, I've learned patience.

I've learned that I spend too much time on the internets.

I ended up making some decent friends with a lot of fellow comic book readers on here. Some I can have rational discussions and have good speculation.

But so far I've mainly learned that there are a good amount of people that take their Spider-Man comics WAY TOO SERIOUSLY! :wow::oldrazz: And it's actually made me feel a little better about myself.

I've learned to embrace being a geek. I've spoken with many wonderful, intelligent people (even if I disagree with them), and I've spoken with many people who I'm amazed can even wipe themselves. I've learned that I tend to spend more time in conversation with the latter group, perhaps through some sick pathological need to "educate" them when they are either incapable or unwilling to learn (often times both).

I've gained a better perspective of other world-views, and of people in general. In some ways I'm more AND less cynical. I've learned how to better structure my arguments in everyday life. I've developed my sense of humor around this place over eight years.

I dunno. I can't pin-point any real change; just small changes. It's simultaneously depressing and sort of cool that this place has been with me for so long, and it most certainly has had its influences...

I apparently haven't learned how to avoid a double-post.

I wish I could hop in a time machine and post back when I first started posting here... This site will never be the same again, 2003 is where it was at :(
