This is why you don't shop at Best Buy

They filed for bankruptcy late last year and closed all of their stores down in the Spring. They're only an online vendor now.

I fail to see the issue here. Is there someone volunteering to do this stuff for people who don't know how to do this stuff for free?

If you're not technically savvy enough to figure that stuff out, then you might be willing to pay $129.99 to have it done for you. Is it exhorbitant? Sure. This is simple stuff. But I also think, if you're incapable to the point where you can't figure out this is you getting bilked if you pay for this service instead of calling around to find out the going rates for such work, etc, or calling Tech Support in general...it's on you to a point. After a certain point in this culture, one assumes people who want to use high tech toys would learn to read the instructions and not rely on tech people to do everything for them.

A fool and his money and all that.

I agree. I don't see the big deal over this. It's not mandatory. It's not much different than having a plumber or electrician come in. What they do is simple to them. I think they charge $100 just to walk into the house.

CAUTION "PARENTS JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND" STORY AHEAD:

A few years back one of my mom's VHSs got stuck in her VCR. I tried to get it out but couldn't. I was going to open up the VCR and take it out that way, but I didn't want to ruin the damn thing. So my mother takes it to the geek squad.

What do they do?

Exactly what I did. Then they unscrewed the VCR and tried to pry the VHS out of it with a screw driver and scissor.

Real Experts.

They did get it out by the way, and ruined the VCR in the process.

I've been to them 2 or 3 times. I always think they'll have a better solution then me. But they never do. In fact, they usually have the worse ideas. The 2 or 3 times I've been there, I was actually telling them what to do. They're hopeless. They get their money from the technologically impaired.

I work for Best Buy. No reason to ***** about the prices, honestly. People pay it for the convenience more than anything. Folks are lazy out there.

See...this is the problem. You went there once, and then you went back two more times? Why?

I'm willing to give people a second chance. It was over the course of 3 or 4 years.

I think, "Maybe I just got a bad employee."

Or "Maybe they've gotten better since then."

Nope.

So I'm done now.

I have no problems with Best Buy, they almost always have the best prices and that's what I'm looking for, always buy my games or movies from there since I have the reward zone card, if it's gonna cost the same, might as well eventually get something back.

As for the video game service, if someone is dumb enough to fall for it, more power to Best Buy for getting some extra cash. I'd never pay for it, learned with Nintendo how to hook up a system. However, there's a lot of technophobes out there with money to burn. Their warranties are also a scam, I bought one for a CD player in college, CD player worked until a few months after the warranty. They always try to sell me those, I always tell them I had a N64 and DVD player survive 3 years in a fraternity house, no thank you, don't need it.

Oh wow, I didn't realize that. When I first heard about it, I only thought it was 40% of their stores that were being closed down, not all lol. Hmm I wonder how they are doing now as an "online vendor" only.

I used to work for Fry's, so Best Buy were our bitter rivals! :cmad:

That said, I live 5 minutes away from a Best Buy, and I secretly shopped there even when I worked for Fry's. They were also a lot cheaper.

My dad has his own small business where he fixes people's computers, and he was shocked when he learned what the Geek Squad charges people.

My brother-in-law worked for a business like that, and they actually got calls from the Geek Squad looking for help.

i only go to best buy when the bluray movies are on sale

I went and got the new Three Days Grace CD today and notice that they had Freddy vs Jason for like 24.99 on Blu-Ray. every Walmart I've been to has it for 10.00. Best Buy does have more selection though.

Nearest Target near me is like 30 mins away. **** that.

I usually go to Walmart or Best Buy. Prefer Best Buy for CD/DVD's due to selection. Think Gamestop has more games than them though, not sure.

Now see, I got the warranty for my I-Pod, and it broke while still covered. I got the replacement for free. So I like the warranty.

Oh, that sucks. I like Target alot more than Walmart. They're basically the same thing except I think Target has a better atmosphere. Walmart is starting to look like a fleemarket. lol.

Gamestop definitely has more games. I love gamestop and i always get the hookup there too cause i know the people that work there. Like, for example, i got to play batman:AA 4 days before it was released. that was so awesome!
